Fiddlers Green I implore you all to bear with me as I make my first stumbling, but serious steps into the world of MMOs... The few forays I made before were not terribley motivated, and I didn't exactly have any support network to get me used to the way it worked.... So, If you'll have me (and the client finishes downloading) I'll be introducing a family in the next week. sweatdrop It's cool, we'll be gentle. I hope. My only real MMO experience comes in the form of Diablo, so I'm not terribly versed either, I don't think.

I'd been playing RO and then WoW, and now have to UNlearn the patterns I'd established and renew my closed beta patterns. And even there I'm missing things. Besides, this is Kiji's first venture, and I think it's Teri's first MMO as well. You'll be fine. smile

More GE Basics
Combat Commands Assault Mode: + .....Team will attack any and all monsters between present location and destination Attack Mode: + or .....Team will attack any monsters within range. Will (normally) return when they run out of monsters to attack Hold Mode: + .....Team will remain stationary, attacking any monster that approaches the characters NOTE: Hold Mode has a glitch in it. Sometimes a monster will get stuck in the center of the trio, and combatants will NOT attack it. If you do not have an AutoHealing Scout, it will beat your characters to death.
Looting Commands Simple Looting: .....Active team member will pick up item if it is marked for your team OR untagged Movement Looting:++ .....Team will pick up all loot at current location, then grab any between current location and destination Local AutoLooting:+ .....Team will pick up all loot in the vicinity of the current location

Sometimes a monster will get stuck in the center of the trio, and combatants will NOT attack it. If you do not have an AutoHealing Scout, it will beat your characters to death. Counter To The Glitch:Hold mode will not glitch if your characters are not in the standard triangle setup. Individually set them up, preferably set up so that one ranged is away from your other two, who are either ranged/melee or ranged/ranged. This setup does not glitch, as the one away will still shoot. Just be sure that character is in range. Be careful that you do not place this character too far out, however, or it will be pushed further and further away until it dies. At that point, Hold will turn off and you're back to the same problem, with one less character. confused Edit: If you're using muskets, be sure to stock up. Running out of ammo sucks.

Romuel That being said... Are there any questions that need answering about GE? How do I unequip my characters? The only one that lets me take his weapon off is my Scout. Are Talt/Iron/Ore/Ionium/etc. worth collecting for some higher purpose (forging) or are they simply sellable materials? Unpolished Gems: Where do I polish them / are they useful for things? I've been keeping a collection of gear, generally one pretty decent weapon/armor at each tier of usefulness. Is there some sort of faction storage I can drop it off at, so other (weaker) members can grab whatever is useful for them? Weapon enhancements: What are they, what do they do, is it worth the cost? Warp points: Not the waypoint. I'm thinking a la "Town Portal". Do these exist, and how can I use them? XP cards: How to use these? I'm starting to amass quite a collection. I probably have others I've forgotten since I am not logged in, atm. EDIT: Is there a way in-game to switch between windowed and full-screen mode?

I'm brain dead having just had a final at 8am but I'll give a few of these a shot. whee Balcerzak How do I unequip my characters? The only one that lets me take his weapon off is my Scout. It should be a simple as dragging it from the character equipment panel to your inventory - it might matter whether you're actually looking at the Equip section of the inventory when you try to drag but I don't know. That's probably not much help. sweatdrop Balcerzak Weapon enhancements: What are they, what do they do, is it worth the cost? They enhance the effectiveness of weapons (and armor) - I've found they are very much worth the cost but be careful about enhancing beyond +4 as there is a risk of the weapon breaking. If you do get +5, the weapon glows. If you look at the damage of an enhanced weapon and then compare it to an unenhanced version, you'll see the differences in the damage numbers. Basically, you can get your weapon effective enough that you don't need to upgrade to newer weapons as often since the ones you have are doing comperable (if not better) damage to the ones several levels above. Quote: Warp points: Not the waypoint. I'm thinking a la "Town Portal". Do these exist, and how can I use them? There is a Warp Point menu (the blue swirly thing in the toolbar) where you can save locations you'd like to be able to jump back to. If you buy Warp Scrolls from the Leonardo Express NPC, you can open the Warp menu, select one of the points you've saved, and open a Warp Portal by clicking "Execute". Be careful though as the portal isn't open indefinitely and Warp Scrolls cost 500 so don't dawdle clicking on them once they're open. wink
They are time savers but best used when there is no nearby Waypoint to your destination.
Quote: XP cards: How to use these? I'm starting to amass quite a collection. If you double click them in your inventory, it'll give the experience amount listed on the card to whatever character is currently selected as the team leader.
Quote: EDIT: Is there a way in-game to switch between windowed and full-screen mode? Really hope so but don't know how. sad

defenestrated Balcerzak EDIT: Is there a way in-game to switch between windowed and full-screen mode? Really hope so but don't know how. sad Not to my knowledge, as it'd totally screw the placement of things in the UI. I run full screen and + in and out as needed.
I've also had considerable difficulties keeping Trillian or AIM running while GE is going, but I suspect that's a raw memory issue.
