{Someone save me } A Chaotic Day. Addie was not a bad person. In fact, she was a very good person! The historian was just very tired because of Serra's seemingly endless supply of energy. Where had the quiet, shy little baby gone to? Addie wanted her back! Currently, she had Serra locked up in her room with strict orders to play with her toys herself while she attempted a nap on the couch in the living area of their three story home.
Unfortunately, it didn't seem as though she would be getting rest any time soon. The fact of the matter was while Serra didn't mind playing alone, she most certainly DID mind when her mother had made it clear that she was annoying her and thus was throwing a fit and banging things around. Addie was almost afraid to go upstairs and see the room flooded from her little temper-tantrum.
The books said that she shouldn't give in but guilt was eating at her and eating at her badly. The woman just was not an experienced mother and she was still learning - mostly from books as she didn't have many friends outside of them. Besides, Aderyn Barclay was of the opinion that books held all the answers if one listened to their advice. Not necessarily the smartest thing to do, of course, but the female's implicit trust in books was something that made the woman...well...herself!
"I'm never having another child," she murmured to herself quietly, gnawing on her lip as the chaos above her continued to rain down upon the floor and shake dust from the ceiling that likely needed to be cleaned.
"MA!" Serra screeched, kicking her feet against the floor again. Why was her mother paying her NO attention? This was not right! This was not fair! Addie flinched but held her ground, squeezing her eyes shut and trying to drown out the sound with her own humming. It didn't work.
Sighing, the female decided to do the only thing she could possibly think of doing. She reached out her hand, grabbed the phone, and dialed Jaime's number.

{Writing My Life Story} Addie's Online Journal Log iii. 06/18/07
Dear Journal,
Serra's incredibly hyper. Almost too hyper, actually, and it's to the point where I'm driving myself mad trying to keep up with her. Anyone else but me sees a slightly shy little girl who is well behaved but with me she just...I don't know. It's not something that I know what to deal with. Jaime came over after I begged him to and managed to get her to calm down and go to bed. We ended up staying and talking and I have promised that since he helped me I'd go to one of these lab-things and learn some about these children that come from cabbages that he heard of.
Science and I don't particularly mix well but he's been doing me favors and I feel it's only the right thing to do. Besides, he's...kind of cute. I didn't write that, Journal, if anyone else asks. Of course nobody would and I'm just being silly and now I'm rambling...
I'm just overly tired. This journal will be a short one. For now, I should sleep. Tomorrow I'm taking Serra to the labs to see these cabbage children since she demanded to see them. Just like the books and folls, I'm guessing.
This is Addie, signing off.

{Ive been a prisoner all my life} Bringing Home Baby The cabbage was carefully placed in Addie's garden. There was no other place for the thing to go, and considering she really didn't want it accessible to Serra most of the time, it was the best bet. They'd told her all the child needed was water and light. Well, how a computer could possibly need water was beyond her, but it looked real enough. At least, from a distance.
What made her agree to taking it on was beyond her, but perhaps she had a weakness for children. Or, in this case, plants considering this was the second which would bear fruit in the shape of children.
Things like this were not supposed to happen. Things like this didn't happen in a normal world! Well, Aderyn, you didn't exactly choose to live in a normal world now, did you? her inner voice spoke irritably. Well, it had a right to be irritable.
"No, I didn't," She agreed out loud, taking the hose and sprinkling water onto the biocomputer carefully before reaching down and twisting the knob to turn off the flow of liquid.
Serra, who had been watching her do this, peeked out of the window from the guest bedroom, "Now what?"
Now what indeed! Addie shook her head, "We wait, Lil' Drop. We wait."

{I've waited for you} Landon Arrives Nestled mostly with the carefully packed dirt the small leaf began to wiggle furiously. Though not powerfully enough to rock it's pot the motions were more noticeable than any it would have made before.
"Maaaama!" Serra cried, bouncing up and down as the pot began to move. It had been some time - almost a year now - since the leaf had been potted and she'd been watching it intently after being told it would become a brother or sister to her. No, she didn't understand, but when did a child question such things?
"What is it, Serra?" Came Addie's voice, fresh from the shower, a towel around her waist as she made her way down the stairs and to the kitchen where the plant was nestled on the window sill, "Oh. Oh my!"
Serra giggled. Her mother's reactions were always so amusing.
"Is that pot moving?"
"Yup!"
"I'm not just seeing things?"
"Nuh huh."
Addie hurried over to it, moving it away from the sill and onto the large kitchen table.
"Have we killed it?!"
The leaf was decidedly not dead, those it's normal green colour was disappearing as blues and purples began to tint the edges of it. As if spurred on by the sudden doubled attention the small lea began wiggling mostly int eh direction of it's watchers, as it did so it also seemed to grow larger from a small and hand sized to bulging out of it's pot.
"It's dying. I killed it!" Aderyn was about to completely panic now, "I'm going to jail for murder!" All those...seven?...months of watering and taking care of that plant and now it was DYING. Wait.
... ...
Did that thing just grow? And bulge out of the pot? "Serra, go into the living room." If the thing was going to combust, it would be best to allow her daughter to be out of the line of fire. It wasn't as if SHE could leave it there alone, though.
"But mama!"
"Go, Serra!"
Panicking humans were amusing. Now to find something to poke it with. Wildly, Addie looked around, thankful that the toddler was reluctantly moving to the living room.
Like a Banana the seems on the leaf seemed to pop and then peel away revealing a very strange looking little boy and an and knocked over pot sitting on the table.

{Writing My Life Story} Addie's Online Journal Log iv. 01/15/08
Dear Journal,
Second child has finally arrived and boy do I feel awkward. He's...strange. Okay, a little more than strange! Definitely not something an upper middle-class respectable woman would have as a son! Yes, journal, the plant was a male. Worse now, though, is that he looks (and acts like!) one of those punk rockers that I try to shy Serra away from. He has electric blue hair that's tipped with some kind of violet and he's always twitching and unable to stay still. I've attempted to put him in the clothing that I recently purchased for him (lovely sweaters and khaki shorts with little baby ties) but he's managed to shred each and every one of them - WITH IS TEETH.
Serra's positively refusing to go near the boy and that leaves me running between the two of them like a mad woman. I didn't sign up for this! I want my quiet life back!
s**t. I heard a crash. Pray to god it's not my Antique 1550 vase.

{Freed} Another one?! It was just a simple, normal, average day the day the mermaid decided to make her entrance to the world. The sun was shining, and Serra was zooming around the large, generous back yard on her small thundercloud appropriately, by Addie, named Doom. Addie was sitting in the new garden she had started (a normal one, in which no children would pop out of, thank you!) with her new son sitting not too far away from her, chewing on the clothing that she'd purchased him using a small portion of her last paycheck.
Which she would now have to stretch even further until she decided to break down and touch the family accounts.
And the cabbage was now shaking, rocking back and forth oh-so-slowly, though it was doing it without anyone noticing. In fact, it was half way opened before Serra felt a change in the air (a talent she'd picked up, in trying to learn how to predict the weather) and her cloud stopped.
Hmm. "Momma?" Came the child's voice, the girl hopping off the cloud as it disappeared for the time being until it was called into existence again. "It moved!" Serra's small legs carried her toward it before she dropped to her knees before the leafy plant, a hand now sticking out of it. A dark hand.
Addie's head popped up from her task of tending to the plant bed and her floppy hat fell off, bouncing from her shoulder before landing on the soft grass, "What's moving, Serra?"
"Plant."
Fluidly, the historian pushed herself onto her feet before making her way toward where her daughter sat with the cabbage which seemed to be rapidly deteriorating. By the time she got there, a small mermaid child rested on the ground. Soil and some kind of sticky goo covered her skin in a thin sheen, but outside of that, she was very beautiful. Long, wavy and dark hair with a definite tan to her skin. She looked every part a dark, tropical beauty except for the piercing green that startled Addie as her eyes opened.
"Hnn. It looks like you two have a little sister," she murmured, a touch of awe in her voice, "and we have to go shopping again."
She didn't show it, though worry had crept up in the back of her mind as she looked at the wiggling child before her. Three children, a teacher's salary, and one of them definitely would need more resources due to the very apparent lack of legs.
Aderyn Barclay would need to swallow her pride and go to the bank first thing in the morning.

{Writing My Life Story} Addie's Online Journal Log v. 01/18/08
Dear Journal,
Nerissa has made her appearance, finally, after months and months of waiting and taking care of the cabbage. This is the second child that has come from a plant. Gaia certainly is the strangest places. Unfortunately (Or maybe fortunately, from the eyes of my work) she seems to have made her appearance rather close to the appearance of the other one. Landon.
Within three days, actually. It's slightly overwhelming having two babies in the house along with a very indignant Serra who isn't getting as much attention as she did before and thus is lashing out. But I'm really, really happy with the two of them. A beautiful little girl who is quiet (though sometimes loudly protests her inability to do much more than wriggle around due to her lack of legs) and a handsome little boy.
Who is anything but quiet and has a tendency to attempt and bite his way out of the clothing I put him in. (I suppose this journal entry is nicer than the first. I've calmed down quite a bit, please disregard the other)
The two provide a beautiful contrast to each other, this much I can fully admit. If I didn't have Nerissa's quiet presence along with his more destructive one, I can assure you that I would go quite mad. Thankfully, this is not the case and I have some semblance of balance in this life that I must get used to.
I never saw myself as a mother to begin with and now being faced with being a single mother of three young ones is, admittedly, quite scary. I don't know how I can do it and maintain my job. I cannot afford baby sitters all the time and while I have much of the family money at my disposal, I have a strict policy with not touching it and making my own way. I never liked depending on others.
But perhaps it's my own selfish need to prove myself. I have three little ones depending on me now. Would it be right of me to let them go without because of my own preconceived notions? Is it fair to ME to have to go against what I've felt was right all of my life? What would mother and father tell me to do? Well, I know what THEY would tell me to do...I suppose I just need to step back and assess this.
I have a lot of thinking to do and I think Landon just hit Nerissa because I hear crying and it's definitely not Serra. So I must bid you adieu for this evening. Wish me luck!

{A Place For Us} A Room For Nerissa & Landon i. It had been almost immediately that Addie had gone to the bank to withdraw the funds that would be needed to turn one of the guest bedrooms into a bedroom to be shared between Landon and Nerissa. Normally, she would have given each their own room (Considering they did have quite a large home) but she found it silly as both were still babies and it didn't seem practical to do much else. Besides, it would cost more to fix up two rooms and she wanted to be able to pay at least for one of them by herself. Already she'd broken one rule - touching the family money - but that was a necessary evil.
The banker, who had known her family for as long as she could remember, seemed utterly surprised but genuinely happy to see the proud Aderyn using the funds which had been rotting for fifteen years. Without hesitation, and a purse full of cash (Heaven forbid there be a check record of her weakness), Addie returned home, paid the sitter, and looked at her three children.
Serra was currently sitting in a corner, finger painting with all sorts of colors - most which were on her, or the floor, and not the paper itself. Addie inwardly cringed at how she was going to get electro-green out of her pristine white carpet, but let it go for the moment. Nerissa was curled up and napping on a blanket which had been laid out on the floor, Serra's stuffed octopus clutched tightly in her small hands (which was amazing considering Serraโs inability to share anything, truly, was what Addie had come to know her for lately) and LandonโฆWell, Landon seemed to be entranced by the television, with the dancing things called Teletubbies that the historian just didnโt understand the point of. Apparently, it was good for children and helped them learn. Idly, Addie wondered what they learned other than drugs were bad.
She had decided that the room would be done in a sunny gold-yellow that matched the mer-childโs tail, with a blue trim (Though what shade wouldnโt clash was beyond her, and sheโd have to pour over swatches for hours, she was sure) to compliment Landon. If they were to be sharing a room, it would be equally. Certainly, her son would likely complain later about sharing with a girl, but at the moment there was no other choice.
Then there were the things she would need to buy which included bedding, toys, furniture (Bunk beds? Regular beds?), curtains, books, and a wading pool. In the short time she had with her new daughter, sheโd discovered that she didnโt do well without water and figured having a small childs pool somewhere in the room to slither over to (When she could actually slither rather than scoot herself along) when she needed water as, obviously, Addie would not be there all day as much as she wished she could be.
โSerra? Letโs get you cleaned up,โ she murmured toward the girl as she came closer, careful not to wake the sleeping Nerissa off to the side as she picked her toddler up, holding her on her hip (which also got paint on it, ugh!) and carried her up to the bathroom. โSo, little girl, youโre going to help me today.โ
โMmm?โ Came Serraโs reply as she sat still, allowing her mother to take off the smock she was wearing (Which had become a rule in the household when it came to painting) which had, thankfully, protected her sea-green dress which was her favorite of the week.
โMmhm, weโre going to the store to get things for Nerissa and Landonโs room today. You wonโt need to share your room anymore in a few days. You think youโre up to helping me?โ A cloth was wetted in the sink before it was brought to the childโs face, the material being stained with electro-green, plasma-purple and outrageous-orange as it was swiped across.
โCan help,โ Serra agreed, โWant my room back.โ Her eyes shut as her mother washed her. At least this cloth was soft, and not rough. The sitter had a tendency to grab whatever she could to wash her face.
โGive me your hands,โ Addie toned, allowing Serra to obey before she began to wipe them down as well. The cloth was turning an interesting shade of brown in places where the colors mixed, and she knew that sheโd need to get some bleach on it to keep the pristine white if she wanted to save it. โItโs a big responsibility to be a big sister, you know.โ
โUh huh,โ the toddler murmured, pulling her hands back once her mother was done with them, placing them in her lap. She had no idea what the word โresponsibilityโ meant, but she knew it was important.
โAnd just because there are now two other children in the house you know that youโre not any less special, right?โ
Serra sent a look to her mother which clearly said โOf course nobodyโs more special than meโ before nodding her head. OF COURSE she knew that! Sure, she hadnโt been getting as much time lavished on her, but that was no different from when her mother went to work and left her with that awful babysitter. Well, she wasnโt awful but she wasnโt her mother.
โAll right, letโs get going then.โ Addie went through the door connecting the bathroom to Serraโs room to get her Mary Janes and brought them back, slipping them on the childโs feet. โIโm going to need you to walk or float beside me, since I need to carry Nerissa and make sure Landon doesnโt try to run off and terrorize the general populace, okay?โ
Frowning, Serra shook her head, โUse pram.โ She pointed to the one that had been hers, which was sitting off to the side of her bed. It hadnโt been used since sheโd been able to walk and zoom around on her Doom-cloud. โFor Nerissa.โ
A smile touched the historianโs face and she nodded, letting the girl hop from the counter and go down the stairs while she picked the pram up and somehow maneuvered it down them and to the ground floor. The sleepy Nerissa was placed in the pram, the top drawn for shade, while she looked at Landon who had yet to move from his position in front of the television.
โLandon.โ
No response.
โLandon!โ
Still no response.
โLandon Essander Barclay, if you do not get up and come with me, I will put you in a dress.โ THAT seemed to get the boyโs attention and he scowled toward his mother, pushing himself up into a wobbly standing position.
โComing.โ
โDo you need me to put your shoes on?โ
โNo.โ
โDo you know how to do it?โ Sheโd tried to show the toddler, but trying to teach Landon anything was like trying to pull the teeth of a crocodile.
โNo.โ
โThen you need my help.โ She moved to get his shoes from the closet by the door, but Landon shook his head, โWell, youโre not going barefoot.โ
He nodded, then, and started out the door and was almost there when Addie swooped in and picked him up, despite his struggling and kicking. โYou will wear shoes, young man. I already allowed you to go without your tie.โ
The young boy stilled. If it was a choice between a tie and his shoes, heโd take shoes any day. Pleased with her progress, the historian sat him down, fetched his shoes, and started to put them on the boy who looked like he couldnโt stay still if his life depended on it. โThere. Now, whereโs Serraโฆโ
The girl coughed from behind her, handing her the baby pink blanket that Nerissa had been asleep on and the plushie, โSheโll want it, and Octo,โ Serra said softly, waiting for her mother to take the offered objects.
โThank you, Serra,โ Addie beamed at her eldest, bending to kiss her fully on the forehead before herding her children out the door and toward a day of shopping. This would definitely prove to be interesting.

{I'm Going Home} Addie & Jaime Reunion It was a day like any other day - at least for Addie. Serra was fingerpainting with those new water fingerpaints that didn't allow color on anything but the special paper which saved the historian's pristine carpets. It was a good thing considering she'd already spent a good five hundred dollars cleaning them from various mishaps. White carpets were not good with three children.
Nerissa was in a small wading pool that was placed ontop of a tarp, watching her sister with fascination as the color appeared from nowhere like magic. Everything was of interest to the small mermaid, though, and Serra made a good show of her work. A ham in the making, for sure.
Landon...Well, Landon was himself, sitting on the couch and tearing up a piece of paper. A small pile of already shredded pieces were at his side, dusting over the sofa cushions and the floor, ready to be vaccuumed up. Addie reasoned it was better to destroy paper she could recycle rather than the very expensive baby clothes that he'd mangled previously. He still did, every now and then, but the paper gave him something else to think of.
With her children occupied, Addie was sitting in a rocking chair nearby, reading term papers from her students and making a face. The intelligence seemed to go down every year, and the red pen in her hand was marking up the one she was working on currently...out the wazoo.
Thankfully, it was quiet, and she could concentrate on the words.
Standing outside of the neat, quiet house, a speckled redhead clenched his hands on the strap of his backpack. It had been at least a year since he had seen Addie and Serra, and he was terrified. She hadn't returned his calls, why? Admittedly, he had left with very little notice or anything by way of that, but he HAD tried to call! And when a chance came to study something so magnificent as that young lady had been...well. Sometimes he simply got carried away!
Taking a deep breath, he stepped onto the porch and rang the doorbell, combing a hand hurriedly through his hair. Hopefully she wouldn't slam the door in his face.
Hopefully she opened it!
There were squeals of glee at the doorbell ringing and Serra almost knocked over her paints to get up and run toward the door. She liked opening it, it was fun to see who was behind the door, and her mother was busy anyway. Addie winced as she watched the paints wobble and breathed a sigh of relief as they steadied.
"I'll get it momma!" Serra assured, going down the hall to where the front door stood. One of the small step ladders at the side as grabbed and pushed in front before she looked out the peep hole. The man vaguely rang a bell and satisfied that he wasn't a stranger, she jumped down, pushed the stool away, and opened the door.
"Hi!"
She was so much bigger.
Blinking almost owlishly, Jaime felt his stomach sink a bit. Things were already not going well. Where he had left a charming young toddler, was now a little girl, steady on her legs and speaking firmly and happily. Of course, Serra had seemed to be a rather happy child to him, so that was nothing new. Bracing his shoulders, like a man heading for the stocks, he grinned his best Nice Man smile.
"Hello Serra, do you remember me? We met awhile ago, I'm Jaime. Is your mother home?" Hopefully she was. The last thing he needed was for some babysitter, or God forbid, Serra herself to tell her mother that the scientist had come by, looking for her. That was ALWAYS bad. Always.
"Mhm. She's reading..." In a stage whisper, "Bull crap! But no tellin' her I said it," she said with a giggle, "I'll get her!" And off she went, rushing off to the sitting room where everyone was gathered, calling for her mother the entire way.
Sighing, Addie placed her papers down and off to the side, pushing herself off the rocking chair and fixing her hair. "Coming!" she called, rounding the corner and going down the hall before stopping at the open door. There was a very blank stare on her face at the sight of who exactly was standing there and slowly her arms crossed over her chest. "Jaime."
Despite the flare of anger and resentment, there was a subtle thread of relief that she was actually looking unfrazzled today in her form fitting suit. Perfect for the teacher she was, but nice enough to show she wasn't a stuffy old bird. It was young. It was even in a very pretty shade of sky blue.
He tried to not visibly wince at the cool tone, though he was admittedly happy to see that she wasn't screamingly angry, and was unarmed. Of course, Addie wasn't the kind of woman to use a weapon, but things had a way of flying out of a woman's hand when she was angry. Though he wasn't yet sure he was deserving. There was a voice in his mind admonishing him, telling him he was a man, and he should suck it UP.
And well, your inner voices were rarely wrong. Unless you had more than one, he found that was usually tricky for his subjects. Straying back to the moment at hand, he tucked his hands in his pockets, smiled hesitantly, and stepped into the doorway. "Hello Addie. Long time no see."
"Very long time," she answered, voice retaining that glacier cool, "What are you doing here, Jaime?" The question was blunt, but Aderyn wasn't exactly one to beat around the bush most of the time. Not when it came to things that she really wanted to know. After their dates, the kiss...The...Well, him disappearing was a personal insult. It wasn't even that he had gone away, it was the fact that he'd done so without a single WORD about what he was doing. Her father had done quite enough of that, and while she loved him, her father, well...There were still wounds.
"Or did you think Serra may have developed more interesting talents for you to study?"
Ouch, she totally capped you in the balls buddy... Okay, now those mental voices were being downright ridiculous, and unfair to boot. Wincing inwardly, he couldn't help letting the smile slip. His expression was now slightly neutral, but still friendly. He wasn't going to argue that things were bad, he just didn't think it was fair that she could be so cold, and ignore his calls. He HAD tried.
"That's not very fair, Addie. I'm sorry for disappearing like that, but it was a once in a lifetime chance to study a new area....and besides, I did call. Several times." Though he did have to admit, the idea of Serra picking up new skills made him blissfully eager to speak to the girl. He liked her on a personal level, but the siren call of study was irresistable to him.
"I didn't get any calls," she said quietly, the news that he had called quite new to her. She likely wouldn't have been upside if she HAD been called. Now she just felt like a shrew, but that didn't mean she still wasn't peeved! He HAD left, and she hadn't gotten the calls and that meant she was perfectly justified, right? Right.
"I would have gone too. You know I would have. But..I...You..." Her anger was wavering, and that much was obvious in the way she was now looking at quite a loss for words. "Close the door."
Well, she hadn't kicked him out.
Thank God, she didn't kick him out.
Closing the door behind him, he was a bit baffled. Hadn't gotten them? Well granted he was in the backwaters of nowhere on a sattelite phone but..."You never got them? Not one? I called at least six times Addie!" It was unbelieveable. Not ONE?! Christ, no wonder she was so angry. Stepping closer, the friendly smile that was a part of him peeked back out. "So I suppose I won't be getting an apology from you too huh?"
Hopefully she took the joke.
"No. Not one."
There was a pause of silence as Jaime went and closed the door, her blue eyes studying the man to see if he was telling the truth. She didn't THINK that he'd lie to her, but anything was possible. She'd reserve her judgment for now. For now, she would just be happy that he hadn't completely disappeared permanently. She did like him, after all.
The joke caused her lips to quirk upward, and she opened her arms. The man had better be interested in giving her a hug after so long.
Muttering under his breath, he said a few things that he hoped Serra could NOT hear. Otherwise Addie's anger might flare up all over again, and he didn't want that, not at all. He was all smiles as he gathered the young professor close, hugging her tightly. He was incredibly fond of Addie, and that last night before he had vanished had been...well....lovely.
God that was so feminine, but he was actually reluctant to have left. But now he was back, and things could start over. "Though, Serra IS extraordinarily large, considering it's been only a year. Quite amazing, she's truly advanced." Dork.
Addie's brow raised at the muttering - thankful that none of her children could hear it in the other room. Sounds of Disney Singalongs came out from the television, so it was obvious that Serra had decided fingerpainting was over for the day and was busy with other things. However, when she was pulled into the other's arms, she sighed and leaned forward, returning the hug.
"She's getting older, yes. I've only had her about...two years now. But she's now joined by two other children, and I've been going out of my mind. Had to break into the Family money because I just couldn't afford it alone." She snorted, "And Landon is...well. Landon."
His eyebrows raised at that. Two more children, neither biologically hers. Or so he hoped. Quickly, his eyes darted over her body, that looked no less slim than when he had left. Well. Hopefully? No, he didn't think Aderyn was like that, not at all. Shaking his head, he left an arm around her waist and walked down the hall.
"Two more? They wouldn't happen to be...unique?" He mentally groaned even as he said it. Even after all that, he was still awkward as a puppy, with as much forethought as a young lad. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean it that way. It's just...." Sighing, he shook his head. "You know."
"No, they're not mine," she assured him as he looked over her body. It wasn't necessarily subtle, and she couldn't help but laugh, "Well, they are, but I didn't give birth to them. And honestly, Jaime, you can't get a leopard to change their spots. I know that, you don't need to apologize. I'd just appreciate you not treating them like they're under a microscope. I doubt they'd appreciate it."
Especially Landon. He was...Well, Landon was special and she sweared he was high half the time. Or she would have if he wasn't a toddler.
Addie walked with him, coming around to the room where all three children were grouped up on the couch. Landon had his head in Serra's lap, Nerissa, in all her mer glory, was leaning her head on her big sister's shoulder and humming along with the bouncing words across the screen.
"Nerissa is the mermaid. Landon is the one with the cut up clothing." She pursed her lips, "Landon. I told you not to rip them..." Sigh.
"No, I promise I left the looking glass at home." He would've been crazy to bring it, when he was coming to face a potentially angry woman. Especially when she wasn't so keen on his little quirk. Understanding, yes. And he admired her for it. But not keen. "And I promise I won't even take out the notebook." Which was probably a bit rash, but well, if she took his bag away, he could probably keep that one.
He almost lost his resolve, when he saw the cheerful, dainty little mermaid humming away, and the slightly dazed boy ripping at his clothing. Other than his odd habits and strange hair, the boy was fairly normal. But the little girl....fasicnating. His grin was beatific as he glanced at all three. "It seems Serra's not the only thing getting bigger, this family has grown!" Jaime waved conversationally at the children, before stooping down to talk to them, starting with the young mermaid, as it seemed the boy was involved with his mother at the moment.
"Nerissa is it? You're a pretty lass, aren't you? I'm Jaime, it's nice to meet you. I'm a friend of your mother and sister, back from a holiday."
"Mmm," she said, clearly not believing him and thus she did take his bag, "We'll talk in a moment, Landon," she promised, moving upstairs to put the bag in one of the guest rooms. She didn't know if Jaime was going to stay or not, for the night or whatever, but at least that notebook of his, along with any recorders or anything else would be firmly locked away until he did leave.
The mermaid looked up with wide, expressive green eyes at the interruption to the sing along and where most babies would cry, the girl simply stared at him, tilted her head, and offered him a small smile. "Hi." It was one of three words in her vocabulary. Which were Hi. Waa, which was water, and up. But then, Jaime didn't know that.
"She doesn't talk," Serra informed him a moment later - efficiently taking care of that little lack of knowledge on the man's part.

{Flippin' Your Fins You Don't Get Too Far } Determination. It had started out to be the quiet, lazy sort of day that Aderyn missed terribly. It had continued on as such for the rest of the day when she was certain, with the three children she had, it would have degenerated into one of those 'just shoot me' days that she was so used to. Thankfully, it seemed that her children had settled into a groove of actually getting along, and Addie was relaxing quietly out on the patio, surrounded by the beautiful nature filled garden with a book in her hands.
Serra was currently drawing with her new set of colored pencils (because apparently crayons were for babies) and Landon was watching her with all the attention in the world. There wasn't much interesting for him to do around the house since Addie had told him under no uncertain terms if one more thing was chewed on, knocked over, colored on, broken, stuffed in the washing machine when it didn't go there or peed on he would be stuffed into one of Serra's dresses and made to parade around the town like that.
Needless to say, Landon had been on his best behavior - even if it was boring.
Nerissa, however, was slowly making her way from the baby pool that she'd been placed in. It hadn't been easy to pull herself out of it with only her small, child-sized arms to do it. It had taken a good thirty minutes of clever maneuvering to get herself rolled onto the carpet - soaking it in the process - and even then she still had a very long way to go.
Thankfully her siblings seemed to be quite pre-occupied with their drawing and she was going unnoticed for the time being. Which was good, because Serra, she knew, would put her back in and she'd have to start at the beginning all over again. Things were not made easy with a dead-weight lower half, that was for sure!
The girl shifted her green eyes about, trying to get her bearings on the surroundings. Anything her hands could grab on to make things easier were scouted out and once she had a general plan of action, she began to drag herself toward the nearest chair, using the legs as a counterweight to pull herself up to her...tail.
Nerissa wobbled a little bit as she balanced on the appendage she didn't quite understand and took panting breaths. It was a lot of work for a baby to do, thank you so very much. Now she had to find the next stable surface, which happened to be the coffee table.
Tiny fingers gripped onto the edge of the chair, trying to shift her body back and forth and get toward it while using her tail, like she'd seen snakes in videos do. It wasn't working well and, in fact, the mermaid ended up flopping over and laying on her back, staring at the ceiling.
This was not fun. But she had to do it! She just had to. Landon could walk. Serra could walk. Her mother could walk! Why couldn't she? She knew her bottom part was different, but she certainly didn't understand why.
Biting her lip, the usually happy-go-lucky mermaid simply let the tears come, green eyes watering and spilling out over her cheeks in quiet sniffles. It was Serra who heard them, turning her head to look at her sister with a bit of worry.
Sighing, the older girl pushed herself onto her feet and made her way to the mermaid, pulling her into a sitting position. She was still too small to pick the baby up, she knew, but she couldn't just let her lay there. "It's okay, Neri." Serra said with a small nod of her head, as if her word was law.
Sniffling again, the brunette buried her head against her sister's chest and closed her eyes. She'd walk someday.

{Legs Are Required For Jumping, Dancing } Second Tries. "The hills are alive with the sound of music. With songs they have sung for a thousand years! The hills fill my heart, with the sound of music...." Julie Andrews' voice filtered in from the television as the children settled in on the couch to watch the musical which their mother had insisted was one of the "Great classics" that they needed to watch. Serra was mildly amused by the woman and the high notes she was hitting, Landon was enthralled with the greenery - but Nerissa was absolutely in love with the dancing. Her green eyes were glued onto the screen, watching the woman in the dress spinning and frolicking around on the green hill tops, singing her heart out and looking so content at life. Scene after scene had some kind of fancy foot work to it, and by the end of the movie, her tail was twitching and the young mermaid was itching to try and do something or another that involved what that woman could do.
Very carefully, the mermaid began to slither her way off the couch while her siblings were wrapped up in the movie. As much as she would have loved to continue staring at the screen and watching it, she wanted to do this more. Unfortunately, little girls made loud noises when they hit the floor, and a loud thump alerted Serra to her sister's new position on the hard wood rather than the soft couch.
Nerissa looked up at the rain child and wibbled her bottom lip, giving her a simple, pleading glance. That was all it took to have the girl sigh and push herself off the couch, moving behind her and hooking her arms under Nerissa's and pulling her up. It was no easy feat, considering Serra was only a bit bigger than the baby, but she managed to do it.
But now she had no idea what she was supposed to do, so she just stood there supporting the mermaid with shaky arms. Nerissa seemed thankful for the help, though, wiggling her hips a bit in an attempt to get her tail moving correctly. Once again, she was mimicking the snakes she saw on the Discovery Channel when her mother was watching television - but her muscles just didn't feel strong enough to hold her up just yet. She was shaky, and she knew if Serra wasn't holding her up, she'd fall flat on her face.
Despite that, she continued, wincing only when Serra sagged a bit from the effort of holding her up. This wasn't working. Already she was feeling the ache in her muscles from attempting this particular motion and Serra didn't seem too thrilled with holding her for much longer.
A frustrated look crossed the child's face and she made a grunting noise, alerting their older brother who reluctantly pulled his eyes away from the talking box.
It took a moment for the boy to think about whether or not he wanted to help his sisters. On one hand, it was the nice thing to do. On the other, the green! Sigh.
Landon pushed himself off the couch before he changed his mind and went over in front of Nerissa, standing on his own (something he'd gotten very used to!) and offering his hands to the mermaid, who latched onto them tightly.
"Come on." he murmured, taking a few steps backwards. With the new support, Nerissa's resolve tightened and she put more effort into moving her tail. She moved forward, Serra walking behind her with Landon up in front. She only made it a few inches before losing her balance, Serra swooping to catch her from hitting the floor.
"Good." The rain spirit told the mermaid, petting her hair. "Good."
