I'm worried because my stuff has quite a lot of violence cause it's set in a war-ish time. Would that be okay??

Violence is fine to post, as long as it's not too over-the-top (like describing somebody's guts coming out in really nasty detail burning_eyes ).

I have a question- not sure if you can answer it, but here goes.

If I post my novel on here, is it still eligible to be published? ( I know, high hopes. )

Just wondering, 'cause I've heard some horror stories from my Shiny Author Friends who have posted their book online before it was picked up and then told it couldn't be because it was "previously published" and the public could retrive it for free so the company wouldn't make any profit by printing it.

From what I understand you can usually get around that by posting it somewhere that not everyone can access it, like a private livejournal or blogger blog. That way you can just invite specific people to read it without having it available to the general public.

Ya know what, just go post it on webook.com. There, after you've finished, it actually gets put into a voting thing and, if you get to be one of the top voting books, they'll publish it for you!! Of course, you still get most of the profits it makes and everything, but you won't have to go around and find someone to publish it.

Woot! I'm finally posting here in 2009 ^.^
Oh, and I think I should change that post of mine... If it's a vampire story, DO NOT POST IT THERE!! WEbook has been overtaken by Twilight fans, so hundreds of authors have dropped out from it to get away from it >.< Anyway, I suggest using EditRed (editred.com) instead, this time.

Now, we can start making our threads to post our novels, right? Unfortunately, I won't actually be POSTING my novel on Gaia, but I will have summaries of each chapter. I need to be careful about publishing, because I plan on getting my "The Forgotten One" trilogy published due to extremely great ratings, opinions, comments, and critiques by members of WEbook.

Anyway, good luck, everyone!!

err... i forgot to mention something... how do i count the words in my story? cuz i wanted to start something with a set goal n' all... but i certainly won't burn my eyes counting words. and while a few of my friends would do it if i told them they could read the story if they counted it's words, i'm not THAT evil. so... i figured there must be some program or gaia device for this. anyone?

What software are you using to write your story? I probably has a word cout feature. If not, just google "word count" and it'll come up with lots of links to online ones.

Well I think if you deleted it from this site before going to a publisher it could still be published.

Probably not.

Posting it on the web constitutes first publishing rights, so what happened to your friends will likely happen to you.

I think you can fix this by making this forum 100% private. I've seen that done on other forums before. But just to be safe, I'll be deleting my draft on Authonomy before I go to a publisher. And if I publish what I post on here, I'll ask for my thread here to be deleted, as well.

What if the work we have has exceptionally dark content in it? I'm posting it off site anyway, so would it just be alright if I post warnings and a link? I'll have warnings attached to the post offsite too, just to be safe. But would that be okay? My work is pretty dark, but I tend to list all of the warnings which apply to the fic when I post the first entry about it, and then from there I just attach them to the chapters when they apply.

Mine opens with a brief sex scene. I plan on whiting that out and giving all kinds of warnings with mine. Would that be okay, you think?
