Fen sped up when he saw the adolescent peep into his peripheral. He pushed himself harder than he could ever remember himself pushing... It wasn't long before he found himself analyzing what the leopard was doing that he wasn't. His eyes fixated on his "foe's" legs and paws, trying to slow the motion down with his mind. He was so distracted that he almost ran into the tree, but luckily managed to snap out of it right before he would've hit it.

On the way back he gave up on the idea of winning and replaced it with trying to mimick Usiku's strides. He suddenly found himself picking up speed and not using as much energy as he was before. He came to a skidding halt when he arrived at the finish line not long after Usiku.

"You're a genius!" Fenris exclaimed, amazed at how the leopard knew how to move. His mind raced with the new way to run, he kept it in the back of his mind.

((No pun intended in the last sentence. sweatdrop ))

Usiku's stopping actually took a while, he was heavier, much heavier, and when he tried to stop, he skidded, dust raising and enveloping around him as his paws went over uncomfortable cutting sands. Any white that remained on his body(as his toes had darkened) became a slightly tan color, but he could deal with thatsoon enough.

He panted a bit, of course; the pressure on his lungs was great, even with his 'exconomical' way of running, but he recovered quickly. It was kind of how he was raised. Now Fenris had arrived, and exclaimedsomething, wich made the male's eyes blink in confusion. "I've always been smart, " This probably would have been bragging, had he said it any other way, perhaps when he was younger, but now, he said it dull, , emotionless, like he didnt quite care if anyone thought hewas or not.

"Yet I don't see how running would get me that kind of remark. " He swished his ail, shaking off the sand from the white ring he had. He liked that ring.

"The way you run... It's so..." Fenris paused and panted. He couldn't remember the word he wanted. He turned his eyes skyward for a minute and thought as hard as he could. Started with an 'e'... "EFFICIENT!" He cried when the word came to him. He stared up at the leopard with big eyes.

"I switched over to how you run," he explained, still amazed. "It's so much better! It wastes less energy, it's perfect." He plopped himself down into the dust, making a little cloud from the force of his impact. "How did you know to run like that?" He asked.

"Oh. " Heblninked, confused, and then he got it.

"I spent a long time running almost non-stop. " He said. Perhaps it had been two days? He did recall not sleeping at all since he had left Karama to look for help. Then, he ran even more to reach home. "Maybe itwas two days, I dunno. " He shrugged. "I ended up making myself find an easier way to do it. " He hadn't actually made it intentionall, running 'efficiently' hadn't really been on his mind then, more like the image of his mother dead, wich he was sure existed, and his fathers dissaproval. Perhaps his obdy just made him learn that way.

"But most leopards run like that too. " I think. Its quieter, and we're not as fast ascheetah, or hunt in groups, like lions usually do. " Sukari was a frank exception. Then again, there WERE many rogues.

Fenris paid attention to the leopard's explanation. He'd have to remember when to use that kind of stride. When it came to running, he wanted to be the very best. It was the only thing he understood deeply, and couldn't get enough of.

However, as much as he loved running, he couldn't understand why anyone would run non-stop for two days! Possibly even longer! He was about to ask, but he decided not to. He plopped himself down into the dust, tired now. "Well," the cub yawned, "you're a good racer."

"No. " Usiku shook his head. "I ran to flee, and to get home. " He shook his head, and sighed. "I never raced with anyone. " He laid down again, head on his paws, looking boredly at the den entrance, flexing his claws against the ground.

"The way a cheetah runs is faster, but you could use this to make sharper turns, and not get tired. " Usiku had been told about the whole over-heating thing on cheetahs.

Fenris took in the information that he could. His body was already on it's way to sleep, his mind kept him awake, just barely. He didn't want to fall asleep on the leopard, that was rude, but... It was pulling at him. He worked as hard as he could to keep his eyes open, they were only a sliver of blue now.

"...Yeah... tighter turns," He said before sleep overtook him. For a cub, sleep came so quickly that it was almost unpredictable. Before he had closed his eyes, he saw a figure on the horizon, approaching slowly.

Sukari lumbered across the dry grasses of the savannah. She'd had a relatively decent training session... It was good to work those muscles again. She'd completely destroyed a poor sapling acacia, thorns and all. Her left front paw was bloody to show she'd actually done it with that paw, but she'd found that these kinds of things only made her stronger. She wondered what would be awaiting her when she arrived at the den... If it was chaos, she'd be ticked, and if it was peace, she'd be pleased. She didn't want to deal with rowdy cubs right now.

Usiku had been kind-of waiting for this. He got to his paws and moved over, picking up Fenris by the neck, then peering, halfway into the den with the cub. ently, he set the boy there, then pulled out, sitting next to the den again then looking around.

Spotting sukari's approach, he crouched, tail resting at the side of hs paw. Now she'd probably get in there to sleep with the cubs, or something. He'd probably be sitting out here again.

"They're all here?" Sukari asked as she approached the leopard. It was said in a cold voice, but she didn't care. Training always made her colder. "They're all asleep, and you're in one piece?" She snorted. "Hmph. You're not a bad babysitter, kid," she confided, allowing that phrase to have only just a little bit more warmth than the rest of her words. She was amazed that he hadn't lost patches of fur from the cubs gnawing on him as they often did to her.

Heck, she was amazed that he could still stand, and walk around as she'd seen him do in her approach.

"Fenris fell asleep just now. " He nodded. "He was awake and wanted to race, so I did. " He said quietly, and moved respectfully away from the den. An ear flicked, acknoledging her remark. Perhaps he just didn't seem very.. fun to play with.

"The rest were asleep the whole time. " He flicked his tail tip quietly, coiling it, then looking around. It was getting darker, making his eyes glow slightly in the last rays of sun.

"Ah," she said understandingly. Yes, Fenris would be the type to race. The cheetah in him was strong... And it was her job to make the lion's blood in him stronger.

Jani should be getting home sometime soon... He'd be happy to see me a bit softer anyway. He still thinks, though he doesn't say it, that I'm too harsh with everyone, Sukari thought, debating what to tell the leopard next. It'd probably make Fenris happy, if not her other sons as well. Everyone happier, but... me. The others were important enough to her, though.

"Good job, then. You may rest wherever on this earth you please, and I mean wherever. As long as you're ready to report for duty in the morning," she said before turning to the cave's mouth and entering. If he had been anything other than feline, she wouldn't give him the opportunity to spend the night with the family.

"Alright. " He said, but didn't move towards the best choice around, wich was the den. Instead, he turned and moved away, looking for any tree, just to elude himself with the idea of still being at home.

"I'll come here in the morning, then. " He swished his tail in goodbye, then trotted off towards the tree he'd raced with Fenris to.

"Hmph," she said, watching the cat trot off to the nearest tree. "I guess it's leopard blood..." she muttered before turning around and heading to sleep with her young ones.
