*whacks head against wall*
I leave to go do some (ok. a LOT of) ironing and I miss a juicy debate?
Nuts.
I don't particularly care whether an anime is in Japanese or English but it annoys me when I'm reading subtitles and I know they're wrong. It gives me eye twitch moents because I know I'm missing out on something in the passages I don't understand.
It still makes me giggle that Aoki Takao named the main character after himself.
And seriously, can we not have a pissing contest about knowing Japanese? @Flameangel: I don't need a friend to understand what you've said. I only know very very basic Japanese but from what I do know I can tell you that Ore is a male pronoun and that putting demo in the middle of a sentence is incorrect. Not to mention with the ga there you've essentially said but but.
On the other hand generalisations aren;t fun. there are people who believe you can only get the real experience if you watch anime without bad american accents permeating your brain. There's no right or wrong to the debate.
Ok. Are we still going to keep fighting? I, personally, would rather go to bed now.

flameangel_child524 Zii, please don't generalize those who like the Japanese versions better, because I'm one of those, and I absolutely recent that remark! ESPECIALLY since I'm pretty decent at Japanese.
Sore o hanashite'ta, omae ga manuke da yo. Ore wa Nihongo o wakarimasu to hanashimasu. Ore wa Firipinjin desu ga, demo ne kazoku to tomodachi de mou ii~
Now, would someone who prefers the Japanese versions yet knows little of the language be able to write/type/say that? Didn't think so.
And I don't care if you ask your friend to translate what I just said up there. And if he says there are some errors, than what of it? At least you'd know the basic message, and that's all I care about.
And as for the 'silly Japanse voices', I still think them more suited to the characters than the voices used in the American dub; they're more realistic, given the relatively young ages of the characters (Kai is only 12 or 13 in the first season).
Never generalize about people, and while I understand that it's your opinion, you never know whom you could be hurting. So choose your words carefully, and be tactful about how you phrase such a thing next time. Okay? OK, I totally missed this. If you aren't someone who thinks the original version is so much more mature with its use of language and doesn't know the language themselves then she wasn't referring to you. It's the people that don't give the dub a chance also.

I don't hate the English version, but then again it's pretty much the only version I've seen. I've seen one or two episodes in Japanese, and they were really cool too. I just didn't understand what was being said.
I guess the only thing I don't really care for in the English version is how they say "Let if rip!" instead of "Go shoot!" like in the Japanese version. Even then it's only because every time it's mentioned, people start saying how it sounds like a bad fart joke. rolleyes
The name changes but me a little bit too, but not to the point where I really care.

But, I was reffering to Metapod in this thread: http://www.beybladeforums.com/showthread.php?t=1020Considering what some anime fans are like, it's entirely feasible that somebody could be watching terrible Japanese voice acting and thinking it's the bee's knees.

Thanks for the correction. I was in a hurry (I had class in a few minutes while I was typing that), so I forgot to check my spelling...
As for terrible Japanese voice acting...I'm not sure I've encountered any (the one for Beyblade is pretty decent), but that doesn't mean there isn't any. And there are some English dubs that do the characters justice, such as that of FullMetal Alchemist and Blood+.
And I hope you weren't offended by what I typed; I just get defensive of some stuff... sweatdrop

*laughs* Now you see I positively hate the FMA dub. I've stolen the first 6 DVDs off jayhay and am watching them furiously and had to change the audio before the first two minutes were done.
Though, I blame that on the fact I started watching FMA in Japanese (BEFORE it became scary fangirl fodder, mind you, I kinda went off it for a while what with the attack of LOLZ I LUV ED brigade) XD
I tried to listen to the dub but I just... couldn't.
Besides, something about the way they can sound so threatening while saying 'Irasshyaimasu" makes me giggle in so many different ways

Oh and re: tala's name.... yuriy sounds more feminine than tala and why can't guys have girls names if they don't sound profusely girly? and that's my two cents worth...

Have you seen that Smirnoff ad? The guy with his friend Yuri in the Russian tundra somewhere?
That's the accent I'm thinking of.

I haven't seen a Smirnoff ad for ages, I think the last few times I saw them was at the start of a movie. So I'm afraid I can't remember confused
