His travels? Shikoba hadn't really had any travels. Or at least not any that he could remember. He thought hard on the question, but there was nothing really amazing about this land that they lived in.
"Well, I do like the mountains here. That's where I live."
True, he did enjoy being in the mountains. There were places that he could reach by flying that many others could not reach, and he enjoyed being able to get away from others and be alone for a while. Sometimes that was better, in his opinion.
"Are there any othe places you have heard of?"

Nitika pondered herself the places she'd seen with her mother through those long days of flight. Exploring heavily in the strangest of places.
"Well there's a bunch of caves down around oceans and in the forests. I've even stumbled on one of the greenest meadows I've ever seen" she nodded with a smile, "But I don't go near caves because things live in there, as do dangers to anything that flies like I do.
When once she had ventured forth toward a deepened dark cave, Saissis scolded her for even nearing such a dangerous place. Things lurked within darkened crevices and holes, so fearful it could mean certain demise for any unsuspecting soquili.
"I do like flying to higher places though as long as there's somewhat a decent footing. Really is annoying when you go sliding down backwards till you get your balance set," she chuckled at this thinking how silly one looked sliding the wrong way down a mountain side.

Shikoba thought about that. He had never slipped down a mountain side. Maybe he was just a better mountain climber than her.
"Well, if you know the right places to go, and you watch out, you won't slip."
He felt like he had to show her up. She had been so many places, he had to show her that he was experienced in some ways, too. So he flaunted his skills on the mountains. And this business about caves interested him. Why was she so afraid of what was in them? Shikoba figured that if one was strong enough, it didn't matter what you couldn't see in the caves.
"What exactly is in these caves that you are so afraid of?"

She closed her eyes remembering her mother's strict words and lectures, how one should never go venturing forth in the caves. Only one time had she tried hearing a wierd rasping sound coming from the internal region of the cave.
"Well, I've never set foot in one, but there are things that live in there for one" she shuddered looking very tense out toward the mountains, "strange creatures with claws and fang that could attack a soquili, especially young foals."
She bit her lip and pondered, what really was lying in that cave.

Shikoba was very skeptical about Nitika's information about caves. If she had never been inside one, then how did she know that there were bad things in there?
"Well, there are things that live in the fields and the forrest that you don't know, and you're not afraid to go there."
Indeed, there were many creatures in the world that Shikoba didn't know of, but the plain fact that he didn't know what they were had never stopped him from exploring a certain area.
"And if you've never been in these caves, then how do you know there are dangerous things inside? You have no idea what's in there, and I don't see that alone as a reason to stay away."
He noticed her tense gaze towards the mountain, and he rolled his eyes a bit while she wasn't looking. He thought it was a bit ridiculous to be so afraid of an area just based on what you have heard.

Nitika frowned and wondered deeply what was lurking in there. What had truly made such an evil sound to send her mother into a panic she wondered. Maybe this Shikoba was right, perhaps there was nothing there to be frightened of. But then again what if there were something so dangerous it only lived in those vile dark places foals are told to stray away from. This whole thing had caused her to wonder past the warning and find out for herself. For the most part the only worriment could of be being eaten or killed.
"I trust my mother's judgement on things, for she was concerned about my welfare. But yet I also wonder what exactly was in there as well. Why would she steer us foals away from the looming dark unless there was something not friendly waiting within."
Her gaze slowly made its way back to Shikoba in a serious yet contemplative vise, "Well then since you're so set on what's not in there. Why not show me and prove yourself right."
Strange feelings of the past arose momentarily which she recognized a mimicing of someone she knew all to well.

Shikoba looked at Nitika. He was surprised, both with her and with himself. Just moments ago, it seemed she had been set on never stepping inside a cave in her life, and now she was daring Shikoba to go along with her. He grinned a little and looked off towards the mountains.
"Well, its a long way off. We should get started if you really want to go. I know of some caves at the foot of the mountains where I live. We could go there."
He turned, making his way towards the distant mountains, and waited to see if Nitika would follow.

Her bluff had been called as she looked up at the mountains with unease, but yet her heart raced with the sheer possibility that her mother could of been just saying what she did. In truth there was only one way to find out, and she decided this would be it.
Stetching her wings she nodded with a now determined gaze.
"Very well, You lead the way" she smiled stretching her long wings thinking quite smugly that her brothers little flutter wings could never outdo hers and Tansy's own graceful featherd appendages.
She pawed the ground anxiously, now the real adventure would begin.

Shikoba smiled. He hadn't completely expected her to go. She seemed so scared of it only moments before, and now she was ready to go. He judged the distance between where they were and the mountains, and looked at Nitika.
"I suppose it would be easier and quicker if we flew. What do you think?"
He flapped his own wings, stretching them out, getting ready for the potential flight. He had obviously flown before, but he had never flown with another Soquili. He wondered what it would be like.

"Flying is alright with me" she noted stretching her wings. She could out run the stuffing out of her brother's puny little wings anyday.
Pawing at the ground she waited for him to initate the flight. Since he knew the way there it would be better for him to lead.
"Ready when you are" she agreed with an open mind. Nitika was finally an adult, so why shouldn't she check out something dark and unknown. Her kick was pretty hard as were her bites if need be.

Shikoba nodded and pushed off from the ground, spreading his wings. With a giant flap, he lifted off the ground. His wings were a lot bigger than they looked when he held them close to his body. As he soared up into the air, it was an impressive sight, his long mane trailing behind him.
He looked around, to make sure Nitika was following him. When he was sure that she was, he faced forward again and headed towards the mountains in the distance. He knew a great spot buried in the mountainfoot that they could explore.
As he flew along with the mare, he found it strange that he was slightly excited about this adventure. Shikoba wasn't usually one to make friends or take adventures. But he wasn't exactly making a friend, was he? He was trying to prove her mother wrong in the stories she told bring up her daughter....Right?

Springing from the ground extending her own wings swirling with water and sky, the mare pulled higher to gain her altitude and balance. Feeling the wind slid past her she gave a joyous toss of her head as she caught sight of Shikoba far in front of her. Breathing inward she climbed even higher flexing her legs to work her into a full set flight as her wing beats powerfly pushed her forward.
She couldn't help but giggle feeling her heart yearn for those open skies. Lavender and aqua flowing behind her like a river she rode upon the air as she followed in suite. Pretty soon she wasn't but 10 yards pulling up beside him.
Closing her eyes as her her body moved onward she ran upon the air with a magnificent guise. An adventure was just the thing to make someone truly enjoy life and head toward the unexpected.

Shikoba closed his own eyes for a moment, feeling the cool wind rush past him. He spread his wings to their fullest and soared on the currents. He opened his eyes, and saw the mountains quickly growing nearer. He turned to speak to Nitika.
"We're almost there. Its just there on the east side of the mountain."
He pointed his nose towards a dark area at the foot of the nearest mountain. He began his slow descent as they got closer.

Nitika loved the fresh open air, and though that looming feeling of this dreaded moment was upon her, she'd dare not think that fear was her alibi in following through with this.
Nodding she noted the area they were reaching and held her head high. If her mother was truly wrong then she'd know something her family did not. On the other hand if she was right, well the two of them could take out whatever it was that made that horrible rasping sound so very long ago.
She in turn shifted her speed and motioned towards the decent they needed to make. Spreading her wings out a little further she prepared to glide in gradually with a graeful landing.

Shikoba also spread his wings, adjusting the direction at which the wind flowed through his wings. Leaning back a little, he landed lightly on the ground.
They had reached the entrance of a small cave. The rocky entrance was covered here and there with thick moss, and a few wildflowers were blooming. Overall, it looked fairly nice and even a little inviting. He turned to Nitika and smiled.
"Well, are you ready?"
