"Duvert? Just once, I think. About exactly a year ago." Nita laughed wryly and shook her head. "I asked him what animal had been chosen for me. That was before I'd changed at all. I've pretty much stayed clear of the staff as much as possible."

Comet's wet nose nudged Nita's paw. She ruffled the dog's ears absently before taking the hint and tossing the stick again.

Richard nodded in a sage like manner. "That must have been difficult when you and Lauren were... seeing each other. She claimed to be Moreau's daughter when I first met her." There was a note of confusion in his voice, the thought of Moreau acting in a paternal role was frightening to say the least.

She watched Comet run off, reminded of Vixen, Gaius' dog. "Anyone figure out something about the dogs? I see them around from time to time but they all seem normal so far."

Nita shrugged; her relationship with Lauren wasn't exactly something she wanted to talk about. Especially not with someone she knew wasn't particularly accepting of homosexual relationships. "Lauren... had her reasons to tell people that," she said, after a few moments of silence. "He's not her father, though."

She turned away, glad to have another, safer, topic of conversation. It seemed that Comet had forgotten about her stick for the moment and was busy chasing seabirds and barking her head off. Nita chuckled softly. "Comet seems pretty normal to me," she said, waving a paw at the dog.

With Richard's own gender issues, she was quickly becoming more open minded on the topic of relationships. After ten years of grief overriding any sexual thought Richard was beginning to notice attractive figures again, of both sexes to her torment. For the most part she ignored it and tried to forgot about her eyes got "stuck" on someone.

Richard snorted at Nita's clarification. "I'm sure she wasn't. I think he's engineering him son as we speak." Her face twist in disgust.

She shifted her gaze to the dog. She that Comet was indeed, as normal as they come. "Well Vixen was almost Lassie smart from what I saw but I'm not sure if the labs were to blame for that."

She watched Nita throw the stick a few more times but made no motions to interact with Comet. She hadn't particular cared for dogs when she was human and her transformation had not changed that.

"Say you haven't seen Thom around have you?" Richard kept her tone purely conversational but if Nita looked carefully she might note that the movements of her tail had increased in speed.

Nita's brow raised at that remark. The thought of Moreau actually having biologically related 'heirs' was somewhat disturbing... and she wouldn't put it past him to experiment on his own children.

"Vixen's pretty smart," she agreed. "But I really don't know the extents of dog intelligence. I always had cats."

Still turned away from Richard, Nita bit her lip. "Thom? You looking for him?" she asked, as casually as she could. The red panda girl was determined to keep Thom's chipless state secret, unless she knew for certain that the enquiring mind was a friend.

Richard kept her tone level. "Yeah, been looking for him for a couple days now, I need to talk with him but it doesn't appear he stays in the village. You know where he stays?" She sounded hopeful, she really wanted to know what was on that laptop that was Jordans, it could force Sabin's hand against Moreau.

"Sorry, I haven't got the faintest clue where he's staying," Nita told him. Which wasn't technically a lie. The jungle was awfully big and she hadn't done much exploring in months. "But if I do see him," she added, "I'll tell him you're wanting to find him."

That way, if Thom wanted to talk to Richard, it would be on his own terms.

"That would be helpful." Richard gave Nita an appraising look, trying to determine if she was trying to protect Thom for some reason. She decided against pushing the issue as she would need Thom cooperation for this little plan to go anywhere. She hadn't seen Jordan around either. This whole thing was going to require least one of those two players to work.

She shook her head, looking disappointed. "But you see him regularly then? You can tell him I frequent a tree about a mile up river from the lake. Just follow the claw marks." She flushed slightly at that, admitting that to herself that she marked her space like an animal was not something she was particularly proud of.

"Oh no," Nita said. "I haven't seen him in ages, really." She turned back to Richard and smiled. "I'll pass along the message, though, if I can."

Marking territory was hardly a new idea for Nita; she was generally aware of the paths she'd tread, following the scents from the glands on the bottom of her feet.

Richard emitted a small mew. Nita had gotten her hopes up. A tentacle snapped down into the surf, pulling up a smooth rock that Richard had spotted earlier. She took the rock from the tentacle's club and sent it skipping out across the water. It made three skips before it was engulfed in a wave.

She thought about offering asking Sabin to relax Nita and Gaius' buzzing problem in return for more information about Thom, but she didn't want to play that card. Especially if Nita didn't have useful info.

"Well, anything else going on lately? I've been a bit of a recluse lately."

Nita's ears flicked at the sudden movement. For no discernable reason, she was reminded of Richard's predatory nature. And not just from his changes.

"Hmm," she mumbled. "I've been a bit reclusive myself. Avoiding public places... I don't want to get Gaius zapped unintentionally."

Richard smirked mischievously at Nita, "Not even once?" It was hard to tell if she was kidding or not but she was clearly amused by the thought.

Both of Nita's brows arched toward her hairline. She coughed slightly, giving the impression of blushing under her fur. "And what fun would that be?" she retorted, surprising herself. Nita flashed a grin at Richard.

Richard's smirk widened into a grin. "It would be as much fun as you'd like it to be I suppose." She winked at Nita. She could help several mental images of "creative" uses of Gaius' helplessness and she was surprised and a little disturbed by her own imagination. She gave small shake and took a step deeper into the water.

Nita chuckled awkwardly. "Yes, well," she said. "It's still a good reason to avoid crowds."

She stared out across the ocean, where the sky was just barely turning its customary blinding blue. Soon it would be too warm for Nita to remain outdoors.

Comet bounded towards her, sending up a spray of sand. Another well-chewed piece of driftwood dangled from her jaws. Nita took the opportunity to grab the dog's collar. "We'd best be getting back to the air-conditioning..."
