He pondered on where her packlands could be, wondering if they truly were close by. Maybe she ha walked further than he had first thought? He tried to think of a place that might be it but failed. When he had been a pup he had been born on the verge of a river. He had never liked to be in the water, especially after what he had seen happen to Kaya, but he did like to look at it.

I'm sorry Miss Sandrina. He replied, I have no idea where your packlands might be...but maybe Phib does. He's my alpha. He knows pretty much everything there is to know. It was clear that Rem idolised the black alpha. I hope the water isn't too far in any case, I bet my dad is having a heart attack...I've been away longer than I should have.

He smiledand nudged the wolfess again. Would you like meto show you the sea? Every wolf should see it atleast once, I think.

Sandrina didn't know who Phib was, nor if he'd mentioned him earlier. Her mind didn't work all that great when it came to remembering things, even if it was on a short term basis. "Ooooooh maybe he does, " she said before she faltered and let off a small giggle. It was an odd laugh, almost as though her voice was cracking from the force of it all "I wonder if anyone's noticed I'm even gone yet..."

But when he mentioned the next part she instantly perked. Her whole body was at full attention. "Oh...Oh...oh that would be great! I've never seen the sea before!"

His tail wagged fiercely as their plan was set and he moved on with a new confidence. All he had to do was follow his nose, right? That was all!

Okay, we'll go to my pack and ask Phib. I'm sure he'll have some idea, if not then maybe Amy does, she's smart too and really nice. Her and my dad are best friends, I think. He had no idea that Amy was a seer and he wasn't sure whether his father did either, but truly, that sort of thing was important. Seer or not, Amy was a sweetie. Phib was a lucky wolf.

The sea is so pretty! I remember the first time I saw it. It took my breath away! I won't say too much cos I don't want to spoil it. It's best that you see it yourself.

He snuffled along the ground as he walked, trying to pick up a familiar scent, but failed. He did, however, catch the scents of rabbits and a few mice that seemed to have crossed the path. All this sniffing saw him weaving in and out of the track they were following and soon he raised his head to peer at her.

Have you done a lot of wandering? Or is this your first time?

By the end of his words Sandrina could only slowly nod to them. If one spoke too fast they run the risk of loosing her attention or having her unable to garner what one was saying in the first place. At the moment her eyes had drifted to one small section of shrubs that she thought looked like a small rabbit and when she finally pulled her mind back to the conversation at hand she only caught bits and pieces. Namely of Phib again and some wolf named Amy. But she now trusted Remmy enough to agree to whatever he was indeed, infact saying.

At the mention of the sea again she wagged her tail. "Oh and I can't wait!"

She felt like a little lost puppy when he began to weave to and fro, matching his movements exactly even though it was really unneeded for her to get where she was going.

"I've only been lost once before," Sandrina said, as if this were a big proud moment for her. "Other that I try to stick close to the pack or I wonder with a buddy. So....I guess I've never been this far away form home before." She wasn't sure if she answered his question right, but she sure did try.

Well, I'll be your wandering buddy, how does that sound? He smiled. There's no need to worry. You'll get home again, the forest isn't as big as it seems half the time. He left the track now and wound uphill, heading to its top through the pines. Here the air was delicately fragranced with the trees and flowers.

And as the trees fell away to reveal the moon he paused to glance up at the inky sky, cloudless and beautiful.

Oh... He had been under the trees so long he had forgotten what such a sight had looked like. Suddenly it felt years since he had last looked upon the sky.

Beautiful. He had paused and was staring up motionlessly, his nose tilted as high as it would go. Then as if snapping from a trance he shook his head and turned to Sandrina.

Let's keep climbing. Maybe we can see the sea from here.

She beamed at that and her already happy expression was now joyous. "That sounds wonderful." She nodded at his next words, knowing that even she couldn't find her way back, that he would help or these wolves he spoke of.

She sniffed the air, inhaling the rich flowered scents. Sandrina had always loved the smell, even as a puppy. There was just something about the sweet sharp scents that entranced and calmed her. If that wasn't enough the stars shining bright and plentiful in the jet black night sky. She was thinking the words before they even left his maw, but she was certainly quick to agree.

"Yeah....beautiful," she said softly as her eyes lifted heavenward just as a shooting star passed.

She mode no vocalized notion towards the next statement. She simply nodded and continued to follow his lead.

He continued up the incline with proud and firm steps of his paws. It was taking him a while to get used to the fact that he was older now, older and bigger and stronger. He enjoyed howling for the sheer pleasure of his voice and he enjoyed the moon for it was beautiful.

He enjoyed Sandrina's company too. She was a kindly sort with a big heart. He would miss her when she returned, he knew that now. It had been a long time since he had had a friend.

Almost there! He panted, dropping back a little to walk beside her. I'm sure this is it! We'll soon be home! He corrected himself. To my home anyway, though you can call it yours whilst you stay. His tail wagged.

And sure enough as he crested the hill the wolves could see for miles around. From the shadows of the pines all the way out to the horizon that glittered like diamonds under the moon. That glittering was the sea and it worried him a little to see it was so far away. Yet with a quick calculation he doubted it would take too long to walk there, perhaps a day or so if they worked at it faster.

There it is Miss Sandrina. He breathed. See the sparkles? That's the ocean.

Sandrina wasn't as nimble footed as he was, so as he went up quickly she slipped and slid backwards here and there until she finally made it up. She shook herself off just once and then followed him, her eyes ticking up to the beauty of the sky whenever she could manage a chance.

As he enjoyed her company, Sandrina too enjoyed his. He was nice to her when no one is. And he seemed to understand what she was trying to say even if she couldn't get all her words out. Secretly, or at least deep, deep, down on the inside of her she hoped her pack would be lost forever. But, that was a fleeting thought. She knew it'd be wrong of her if she purposelly stayed gone.

But, it sure was a nice notion.

"Oooooooh," she said at his suggestion of sorts, "Like my home away from home? Yes, I'd like that...very much so."

And just as the words left her maw she saw the sea for the very first time in her life. It was magical, wonderful, uplifting, and beautiful all at once and her body shook from the excitment of it all. She held her breath for a few beats as she was entranced by it.

Finally she rushed and buried her head into the neck of Remiel without warning. "Thank you so much for showing me! It's amazing," she squeaked out.

He gave a sort of happy, squeaking sound as she pushed her nose against him and wagged his tail faster. I'm glad. I'm sure you'll love it there... He replied. For a moment he didn't say anything. Instead he looked out to the sea and enjoyed the moment of joyous tranquility that surrounded them. It was perfect here and suddenly he was very glad that he had wandered from the pack.

Strange how he could feel closer to strangers than his own packmates.

He tipped his head up then and howled. He howled for his father who lay waiting for him in the pack. He howled for his long lost siblings who he knew were out there somewhere and he howled for his mother, his beautiful mother. He howled too for his future and for friendships that he knew were awaiting for him.

There was no note of threat in this song, instead it was a joyous sound, free as a bird and untameable as the very soul of the wolf itself.

Then when the sound drifted off across the lands he turned to Sandrina and admired the play of the moon on her dappled fur. You ready to go? His voice was a mere whisper in the dark.

At those words she half closed her eyes, wanting to stretch the moment out so that the joy she felt could last as long as possible. Again, she had a tiny little inkling to stay with him, but traitors were sought after, though she supposed she wasn't 'traitoring' to anything. But all the same she held family ties to them and that was a whole new game. She was only left to enjoy whatever moments she had like these. Especially knowing they might be fair and few in between.

At his singing she lifted her head up away from its rested position in his fur. She still stayed close, but an ear rolled forward as she listened intently to the noise he made. No not noise, music. She had it in mind to join them in his singing, but somehow it read so much more deep coming from him and him alone, so she contented herself with merely listening.

When he finally stopped and the words joined the night sky in endscape she looked over at his question and merely nodded in response, sighing softly and making move to follow him.

--timewarps--

The trek was faster than Remiel had thought, mostly because from then on, the way ran at a downwards slope. It started off an easy trek, with the trees sparse and few between, but soon they were back in the forests again and picking their way through the pines.

In fact by the time the sun was in the sky again they were almost at their destination, held back only by a river that snaked, dark and scary looking through the trees.

Ever since that day his sister had fallen into the river Snitch had held a fear of water within him. He never went to far into the sea and he certainly did not go jumping into a river. He remembered the currents beneath the surface, ones that had almost taken Kaya from him. Poor Kaya...his big sister looked like a drowned rat after she had been fished out.

Rem now stood paused at the edge of the water, pacing it a little and whimpering. What now? He questione weakly, ears pinned back and nose low.

Sandrina didn't talk much as they made there way across the woods. She was used to this however. When she and other of her pack would travel she had always been instructed to keep her maw closed. She assumed this was the case now. The femme certainly didn't want to kick them offcourse by her stupid and redunant questions.

But when they made there way to the river and the question was voiced by the other she finally spoke up.

"Uhhhhh we cross it I supposed?" She leaned foward. The river was certainly scary and uninviting, but she knew the ends would justify the means, whatever they would be.

She moved along the bank, her eyes ticking to and fro in the morning's light. Finally she found a small stretch of rocks in the middle of the river.

"I... think if we wade to this we can get on them and move till we get to the shallow side again," she said, before her eyes dropped, remembering that 'ideas' weren't supposed to be something she did.

He whined, long and low, as he glanced towards the rock that she had mentioned and moved closer to her side, shoving his nose up under her chin so he could keep his eyes from seeing what he so feared. He felt silly to say the least but every time he looked at it he felt his fur bristle.

Umm... He knew deep down that they would need to cross and he had no idea if there would be any better place close by.

He lowered his head so he could get a better look at the rocks again and nodded, very slightly. I suppose you're right...it's worth a shot. He raised his head fulyl then and gave her a sheepish smile. But...umm...if I fall in, will you rescue me. Please? He laughed and looked embarrased. I guess I don't deal with water very well. He moved slowly to the bank then and stretched out his neck to peer across.

Okay...so it didn't look that bad.

He gave his new friend one last look then stepped into the shallows, shivering as the cold water lapped around his ankles.

Here goes nothing. And so he began. picking his way over to the rocks and stepping on them, one at a time.

Sandrina cocked her head to the side as she looked over at him. With the mottled femme it could be said that her eyes ever looked as though she was waiting on answers to questions that had yet to be asked. Though this time she realled did utter then, though they got lost in the air as a noncommital sound. Though she was a dumb as a rock at times she still could put two and two together.

He must have been afraid of water.

"Of course! But I promise you won't fall in," she said soothingly. She wasn't sure where these naturing instincts came from, but once they kicked in it felt so natural and she only wanted to help him and make sure he felt safe.

She followed him careful to dip her maw down around his heels to add extra support just in case he DID fall in. She was careful as well, only missing a step just once before she made it to the other side.

He wouldn't fall. He wouldn't fall. He wouldn't fall.

He repeated the words over and over, with every step he took he said the words silently, praying that it would all be okay. That somehow he would get through this. He was in the middle of repeating himself for the twentieth time when suddenly the ground rose up and the water was no longer around him.

With a yip of joy he dashed up onto the bank and rolled on the grass, his tongue lolling as he enjoyed the feel of it against his back.

Well that was easy! He exclaimed. Maybe water isn't so bad. Though he doubted he'd ever take a dip in anything deeper than his ankles. Just in case the unexpected happened and he tripped or something.

Anyway, we're almost there now! Told you it wasn't too far. Then we can rest and I can show you the sea up close!

Then his stomach grumbled noisily and he looked up sheepishly. Though we may have to find somehing to eat along the way. My stomach is very persistent.
