Shikoba stopped again, trying to make sure she didn't run into him this time. Turning to look at the young filly, the fact that she said that everybody was rude to her made him think. How could she still be so happy and friendly if people were constantly rude to her? He really didn't understand how so many others that he had met could always be so happy. As he looked at Epesi, something inside him said, 'Go on. Be nice to her. At least for a little while."
"Ok, Epesi. I'll let you walk with me for a while. And I'll talk to you. Come on, let's go."
He didn't wait for her. He just turned around and continued on his way, not waiting to see if she would come along. He took advantage of the absence of her voice to think about what he was doing. Why did he suddenly want to be nice to this young filly? He didn't completely understand it.

She didn't. Her legs new him now, so she stopped as soon as he did. The large stallion didn't speak at first, and it gave Epesi a chance and a reason to think for herself.
It was strange, meeting someone so different that her own Dad, someone who. unfortunately didn't like her presence. Ah...but why? She hadn't down anything wrong, had she? The small filly traced back her memory the best she could, trying to remember. No, only talk. And if talking was a crime...she was the worse criminal. So no, she had done nothing wrong. So why was Shikoba so annoyed by her?
His words came as a bit of a shocker, but Epesi giggled. "Really? Thank you, mister." The filly bounded after him as quickly as she could. "What do you want to talk about...?"

Shikoba couldn't help but smile, seeing the filly so excited over something so simple.
"Well, I'm sure you've got entire conversations worth of topics swimming around in your head there, don't you? What do you want to talk about?"
He really had nothing in mind, and, as he said, he was sure Epesi could come up with quite enough topics on her own.

Well, he was right...wasn't he?
Epesi did have a stream of random conversation swirling about in her little head...but none that she thought the big strong stallion would like at all. The little filly stared at him with a puzzled look for a few minutes trying to think of something good enough.
"Erm..." She finally began. Then a pretty good idea came to her. What if she just stuck to asking him questions? There, yeah...that way she wouldn't be so 'annoying' by talking so much!
"...What's it like being an adult?"

Shikoba was surprised. He hadn't really expected such a complex question from the young filly. He knew he couldn't answer the question in relation to being a foal, because he didn't remember being young at all.
"Well, I don't remember being a foal, so I don't really know how different being an adult is from being a foal. I guess you get bigger."
He smiled, thinking that the filly probably found his answer inadequate.

Epesi waited with much anticipation on his answer. Would he say it was boring? Fun? Or just like being a foal...?
Then Shikoba's answer came. He didn't remember being youn? Awww! So the poor guy didn't remember his childhood along with his parents. "So you're just a bigger foal. Like, it's just the same? So it's not this special thing that my brother is excited about? Like it's not all fun and games because the only difference is your size?"
She frowned. Was that true? Darn it. Epesi along wit her brothers Riley and Toquah'kan had wanted to grow up.

Shikoba actually chuckled a bit.
"Well, I don't really have anything to compare it to, you know. Since I don't remember being young, I don't know what the differences are. I'm sure there are plenty of differences. You will probably have a lot more freedom from your parents. You'll probably be able to run faster with your longer legs."
He smiled, looking down at Epesi, seeing if any of this would change the frown that had appeared on her face when she found out that growing up may not meet her expectations.

Oh.
He didn't remember. Therefore, his answer didn't matter. The one question that the little filly had that was actually good, the one thing that she wanted the answer to without being annoying and he couldn't do justice. Just like Mom and Dad. They didn't remember...what was up with that? Was it once you grew up, your childhood was lost from you forever or something? That would be horrible.
"Well, I just hope I remember me now when I grow up all old and stuff." Epesi giggled lightly, completely serious. "Oooh, I can already run really fast and I doubt my Mom will let me stray past her for a while." The filly nodded, her parents weren't strick at all, but they didn't like their children leaving. It hurt them.
The frown was gone, of course...but now Epesi was curious why he didn't remember.

Shikoba smiled again. She said she hoped she remembered when she got "all old and stuff". Shikoba didn't really think he was old but he could understand that he may appear that way to the young filly.
As they continued their walk, the sun began to set. The colours began to blend as the great orb seemed to met the edge of the earth. He looked down at the young filly.
"Its going to get dark soon. Shouldn't you be heading home?"
