Kubrick is brilliant and so is the shining though I really don't see how its that scary. The 'heeeeeeres jonny' part was funny not scary I thought

I kind of get annoyed at how people think they've seen the film just because of the here's Jhonny part, gees there are better bits in the film!

Truthfully, neither Kubrick's version nor King's version compare to the greatness of the novel.
That being said, both versions have their merits. Jack Nicholson was better than Steven Weber, but King's version was more faithful to the original novel (but I HATE that stupid, drippy, sappy ending). The maze was more effective than a bunch of Topiary sculptures coming to life, because even King's version couldn't quite pull it off. Giant croquet mallets are just as scary as axes. Killing off d**k was unnecessary (Shame on you Kubrick). Kubrick did the Dead Woman scene better.
And so on, and so on...

it was great the twins scared me more than jack nickolon chasing them with a axe and the thing that really scared me was when you would see something totally out of place like when you see the blood rushing out the door or the man in a bear siut and a guy in a tuxedto

He had to follow it...pretty much, don't ya think?

The parts with the hedge animals shouldn't have been left out. And Jack was insane from the very beginning of the movie, which he shouldn't have been, and that pretty much ruined the whole thing for me from the get go. I liked the characters in the book, but key parts of their personalities were cut from the movie, and that ruined it for me.

I liked the characters in the book, but key parts of their personalities were cut from the movie, and that ruined it for me. The hedge animals' absence should be forgiven. Come on, the original was made in 1980; it wasn't like the technology to create an army of hedge animals was readily available. If anything, the part when Jack gets up after being attacked by his wife (in self-defense, of course) and exclaiming "You killed me!" should have been present.

qratay I love the shining it is so cool I love the older one tho not the new restored virsion. I hate it when people do that they need to leave the older olnes as they are so we can enjoy new moves! But I have to admit the Shining is kick a** heart agreed
