Well, it depends what religion you are usually. If you're senveth day adventist, most are vegetarians, don't wear make-up/jewelry, or even shop on Sabbath. So they're really eccentric; it's annoying. I doubt any of them approve of The Harry Potter books.

That's kind of scary...

My mom's a strong Catholic (almost everyone on my mom's side is, well I'm not) and she loves the books just as much as I do. Besides, the books are all the rage, no matter what. I don't believe it's a "corruption," as the new Pope Benedict XVI has said. I believe that it is much like a belief system: everyone has one. So, the books are about good versus evil. What nowadays isn't? What next? The pope condems other movies and books because they're "corrupting" our souls? (I would mention one of the other movies *Cough*Constantine*Cough* but I'm not sure if it would be looked upon highly in this guild)

Well, I am Christian, very much so, in fact, and I have nothing against the books. Obviously, I'm obsessed with them!

The old Pope liked the books. I don't like the new pope...

Did he? Well then I like him. But the new Pope seems against them. Has he read them? =/

I watched a whole tv show about the Pope against Harry Potter. All these people having arguments about it. XD

I'm agnostic so I don't really care what the pope thinks. However I do have an opinion on the topic just for the heck of it. I agree that the Harry Potter series while does have the theme of witchcraft also encourages young people to read. On the negative side may religous groups will see the witchcraft as a threat however, on the positive side many pro-education advocates will see the literacy rates rise and cheer. People could argue for decades about this topic and niether side would win!

I luv Harry Potter! But I'm not the kind of person who believes they can levitate their Mom's china when they throw it up in the air and point a stick at it! I think that's what the Pope's referring to...

They're frightened of the fact that SO MANY people like it. They don't think that so many people can fall in love with one book.

As a matter of fact, this book teaches morals, and standing up for what one believes in, and friendship, only in a very cool way......

the catholics should just give up on the whole witchcraft thing...they used it way back when to explain what they could not otherwise explain... And they have accepted wicca as a religion so I really think that they should just stop...and leave harry potter fans alone.

My mom doesn't like it either. I mean she hates to ridiculous extents. For example I was reading the fifth book last year for my reading assignment in English class and I forgot the book at home. I called her and asked her to bring it to me at school. She actually had my dad scoop it into a plastic bag so that she wouldn't get the "evil Harry Potter germs" or something like that. I love the book and I tried to explain to her that it's not like the book brainwashes you to believe in an evil cult, or it fills your soul with satanism...it's just interesting and it sparks the will to read and learn in children...she just doesn't get it I guess.

It has to do with the pope because he is a highly religious man and Harry Potter is a book about witchcraft. And the bible clearly states that witchcraft is wrong (I hear it from my mom every time I pick up a HP book)...so he's speaking out against it because he believes that all witchcraft is against the bible. I however disagree.
