Congrats on the arrival of your little bundle. I can only imagine what you went through, but thankfully you're both doing good. You're little one is so tiny and so adorable. I wish you and your family the best.

Ooh, my 2 week timer is coming up soon, so time for an update!

Amber is now up from her birthweight of 2lbs 12oz to 3lbs 10oz. She's looking more and more like a newborn and more and more like her sister Jade! She got her IV out, recently got big enough to keep her own body temp without being in an incubator, and is working on drinking my milk from bottles, although the occupational therapists will only let her try that for 2 of her 8 feedings per day and the rest go through her feeding tube. She's not finishing all her bottle and falls asleep or loses interest, and one of the last requirements is that she takes all 8 of her feedings by bottle and finish them all.

I've come down with mastitis twice from pumping and have had an ordeal trying to find doctors to prescribe meds when I'm out of town, and my fevers/tenderness/engorgement keep returning. It's also still been really hard being away from home, not having my husband and older daughter here with me half of each week, and not being able to foresee a release date for Amber. We're going on 3 weeks tomorrow, and it feels like forever. All of hubby's time off from work is unpaid leave and I know it's going to catch up with us soon!

You'll get there. Your little girl sounds like she's growing nicely and is staying healthy. I'm sure she'll start eating more soon. You'll be home before you know it.

Although if she's stable and doesn't need direct medical intervention to live, I don't see why they won't let you go home. I don't know a whole lot about premmies though outside of family stories so I'm not the best expert on this. I guess their policies are stricter now to guarantee less complications later on.

I can see the reasoning behind wanting her to take all her feedings by bottle and finish them all, because they're not going to send us home with a feeding tube through her nose so we can get the rest in her that way, and they want her having a certain amount per feeding so she gains weight.

I think it would be easier to get her to finish all her bottles if we went by her cues and fed her when she was awake and showing signs of interest rather than by the clock every 3 hours exactly. So hopefully that part will be easier once we're home. But good news! She's now finished all her bottles for the past 24 hours so they're going to remove her feeding tube later tonight, I think, and see how she does and if she still gains weight. If she doesn't finish a feeding or two they may have to put the feeding tube back in. But with the way she's going, they think she may be able to come home sometime this week! She'll be a month old on Friday already!
