When finding himself suddenly encircled with arms, the frog man stiffened. His bulbous eyes watered and his long bent legs trembled as though he were fighting against the urge to leap away. Ultimately he did follow her directions, pressing hard on the gauze to give himself something to concentrate on. "W-w-w-well..." It was difficult to talk with the tape pulling at his snout, "I... I... I d-don't know... I... I th-think... y-you seem to be d-doing a good job..." His voice dropped down to a timid murmur, "Sh-she pro-pro-probably hates me now, anyway."

"Hates you? What happened?"

Sophie made quick work of the bandage once both her hands were free, and tied it behind the back in a double-knotted bow that would be difficult to pull free without humanoid fingers. She'd stumbled once while tying, but that was merely part of the process of getting used to her own deformed hands, and once things were settled, she sat down indian-style opposite Newt, taking a good look at her craftsmanship. Granted, it probably wouldn't last for any longer than a day, if that, and the bow certainly wasn't masculine, but it would keep him from making the wound worse, and that was what she'd set out to do.

Filing the items from the first aid kit back into their organized box to give herself a purpose (she became fidgety otherwise), Sophie looked back to the frog, a look of curiosity on her face. "Why would someone hate you? You seem nice enough to me." With the small amount of encouragement came a smile, but nothing more: she wouldn't push the issue if he didn't want to retell.

"Sh-she's... sh-she's this... this girl. Wo-woo-woo-woman, I mean... ah..." Newt sniffed, fidgeting as he reached up to touch Sophie's handiwork, an embarrassed expression on his wounded froggy face. "I... " He shifted, not sure how to explain it, "I... I re-re-re-really like her, you know? B-but... but I... I acted really..." He remembered what Richard had shouted, and he gave the slowly fading dotted-line marks down his stomach and across his chest a tentative rub, "really s-s-sel-selfishly..." a lout croak escaped his throat and he shook his head, "I'm a... a cow-cow-cow-coward. R-r-richard was r-right."

Sophie's smile faded into a thoughtful frown, and she quietly listened, though her leg began to fidget from lack of anything to do. However, when he finished, she scootched herself closer, being mindful of her tail as she sat beside him. "Well, Richard's not the one you like, is he? Have you talked to the woman about it?" The fox girl tilted her head, the tag on her ear tinkling with the effort. "Maybe they don't see eye to eye, that's all."

Newt watched the funny tag as it moved like an odd earing, his throat trembling in thought, "I... I haven't... had the n-nerve... to go s-see her... since... since... y-you know... sh-she changed. " He looked down again, hands rising to fidget with his bandaged-bow again. "I... I'd c-c-call that pre-pre-pretty cow-cow-cowardly..."

"Well, the longer you wait, the harder it gets to see her," Sophie responded, shrugging. In all honesty, she wasn't in any position to give relationship advice, but she could at least pretend to have some common sense. "I mean, if you feel bad, and you like her, why not show up by her place with some flowers or something? Unless she's turning into a plant, which means you're technically sacrificing distant relatives, I'd say most decent girls would give you another chance." She nodded, her gaze soon wandering to watch a fly lazily climb with fascination before she could shake herself out of it to continue speaking.

"I'll even help you find flowers, if you want."

"F-f-flowers...?" That WAS a good idea. He could still build the mobile, but flowers never hurt in these situations, did they? "I'm... I'm n-not... entirely s-sure WHAT she is... she had... f-fangs and... and c-claws and... and th-these w-w-wriggly.. .ah... " he cleared his throat, rubbing his chest again in that nervous gesture along the incision marks.

Sophie blinked, pondering it for a moment. "Well, claws and fangs and wrigglies aren't thorns and vines and roots, so I figure you're all set." She smiled again, getting to her feet with a simple movement that rendered her stance wobbly for a moment. Turning back, she held out a hand to the frog-man to help him up as well: with a torso like that, she could only imagine how his weight was distributed, much less how he could stand upright.

"We can look over by the riverbed for some aquatic flowers, or we could go in the jungle to search for a little bit," she continued, surveying her options. Suddenly, looking on Newt's wounds, the second idea didn't sound too appealing. "Only a little into the jungle, though: I've never really been that deep in there before," she added, a slightly nervous twinge mixed into her voice. "I've heard rumors that I'd rather not try to prove."

"W-w-well... I've... b-been... d-dragged around as b-bait and... and b-been living out in the jun-jun-jungle for... for a long while now and I've n-never b-been bothered by... either the w-wolf or the t-t-tiger..." He tried to assure her, "B-but... but boar on the other hand..." He didn't take her hand to stand, although he did straighten slightly. He didn't so much stand as lift his fat froggy body up enough to show that he intended on moving as soon as she had walked far enough away for him to hop to catch up.

"A boar did that to you?!" Sophie's eyes widened as she hesitated, looking back at the frog's wounds. She'd thought they'd been scratch-marks from claws...could they be tusk wounds?

"Oy...that sounds awful...who dragged you around as bait? The labs?" Another thought occured to her, her ears twitching out of curiosity. "And wait, a tiger? I only heard about the wolf."

She began to walk towards the woods, taking a sniff of the air without realizing it, and then looked back to Newt, a slightly concerned look on her face. There was one more question she needed to ask. "Are you sure it's safe out there, with all the 'wolves, and tigers, and boars, oh my'?"

"Ah... ah.. n-n-no! No, th-this was... th-this par-par-particular wound was... was er... M-Mr. er... " He scrambled for the cat-man-woman's name and it bubbled up through the cricket-cravings like a frog surfacing through a murky bog, "Ah... R-richard d-did this... He's always b-been... er... sh-she's always b-been ver-ver-very cruel to me, really... I'm... n-n-not entirely f-fond of c-cats anymore..." When she walked towards the forest, he sprang after her in a long leap, landing heavily in a way that set his fresh bandages askew ever so slightly. "Th-the b-boar gave me this one," He motioned to the faint scar on his arm that thankfully blended in with his green and brown markings.

"Richard?" The name sounded oddly familiar, but Sophie couldn't quite place where she'd heard it before. She shrugged, letting it go: after all, it was just as likely that she'd known someone by that name before the Island. It was a pretty common name.

Taking a somewhat shy step into the woods, it wasn't long until she came across what appeared to be some sort of tropical flower, mixed in an array of reds and yellows. "Hey, these are kinda pretty," she remarked, picking one to hold up for the frog man to inspect. "Do you want to pick a bouquet of these?"

"KrrrIIT!" he croaked, hopping after her timidly, keeping his head low as he examined what she had found, "Ah... ah... th-they're per-per-per-perfect, I think!" His wounded maw twisted into an awkward smile as he crawled towards the patch to gather some up, "Th-tha-thank you... ah... f-for all this, I mean... "

"No problem: anything to help a friend, you know."

Sophie knelt down beside the frog, picking the flowers most in bloom and holding them out for the frog once she'd gotten a sizable amount, wondering if it would be better if she helped him carry these to the lucky lady. "Hey, do you want me to hold these for you until you get where you need to be?" She tried not to be too obvious, but from her point of view, it looked like he needed his hands for hopping, and he might end up crushing the flowers en route.
