He nodded. "He sounds civil compared to other brutes I've come across... They would make him appear a gentleman."
This based on what he was being told of the man. His tail swished a little as he studied her a little.
"I must say, I don't like seeing a beautiful lady disgusted..."

"Yes well, he's the most uncivilized thing I've ever met." Her wings twitched slightly, and then she felt him studying her. Those bright blue eyes of hers matched his, gaze unfailing. Clarice would never stand down to anything...unless it was unpolite to do so. He started this, so it wasn't.
"Yes well, that was the point of leaving the house. To get away from it all and forget about it for a few wonderful moments. But thank you for your concern and compliment."
What? He had called her beautiful.

"You are most welcome."
He said softly, quietly fidgeting with his hat. He definitely wasn't used to being in a lady's presence. Men he could handle....ladies....that was another story.

He seemed...what was the word... uncomfortable. That wasn't right at all, she made herself relax her pose. Relax, calm down, stop almost yelling out what annoyed you. Though she had been no where near yelling.
"Come now Mister Rackhir, relax. That was the point of you coming out here, as well as my reason, correct? Let us just... relax."
Her bright eyes closed, and though her spine was completely straight, Clarice really tried to relax. Bad posture had nothing to do with relaxing to her. It was a state of mind, not a physical state.

Rackhir gave her a boyish smile.
"Forgive me, Miss, but I'm not used to being a lady's company..."
He admitted, growing a small blush as he tried to calm himself down.

And the problem was brought to light. It brought no blush to Clarice's pale cheeks, instead she smiled ever so lightly. Men could be so funny. True, they were suppose to treat ladies well, and most of them didn't... but that was no reason to get uncomfortable around them.
"I see Mister Rackhir. I'm sure you'll relax in a few moments, you'll see I'm no one to get under your skin or try anything rude. I'm quiet easy to get along with, if you have manners."
It was quite true. As long as you could handle rules and manners, Clarice would have no problem with you. Actualy, those who had manners she tended to do better with. Funny right?

He nodded and actually relaxed a little more. His hands stopped fidgeting as he now just placed his hat in his lap. He even tried figuring out what to talk about.
"You were brought up with manners?" He guessed.

"Why yes, I was. I was brought up by my grandmother after my parents died. She sent me away to a girl's school for most of my life. That's where I learned all my manners."
Every day for years all she heard had been "Sit up straight" "Eat everything on your plate young lady" and the like. Now it was forever etched into her mind, just as much apart of her as her skin. Clarice would be nothing without her manners and rules, or so she thought. Just like her hair, carefully, perfectly briaded... she had been raised with those things braided into her soul.

"I thought so..."
He nodded as he thought about that. Made sense. She held more manners then a few of the women he'd met before...as few as they were. But he was okay with.
"Tell me about yourself?" He asked.

"Well... my parents died when I was young. My mother in childbirth, and my father shortly after that. Grandmother always said it was from heart break. She is my father's mother."
Clarice took a moment to gather all the facts in her head. She tried not to be emotional about her past, but since he had asked...she was repeating it all for him. Going over in her mind everything.
"My first few memories are simple. Grandmother taught me how to fold the laundry, and cook dinner. When I was old enough to go to school, she sent me there with a strick warning not to even get a letter sent home about bad behaviour. I was the best in my class. Top grades, perfect attendance, everything. When I graduated, my grandmother told me that it was time to move out...so I did. That...is my life."
She had left out the meat of the story. The way the other girls had teased her, or how her grandmother had slapped her...hard everytime she had done something wrong. It was the same at the school, a sharp rap on the knucles with a ruler was nothing when the thing could be broken on your bottom. Clarice knew all of this, but said nothing. To evoke pity was under her.

Rackhir blinked. She sounded as though she'd explained several times before.
"To be honest, I'm not sure I could go through the same..."
He ran his hand through his hair, adjusting the red and brownish strands. The sun shown more on his head, a little more then what he was comfortable with so he replaced his hat on his head.
"Would you like to get some shade, miss?"

Clarice peered up at the sun. Yes, shade would be good. Sun on her pale skin was never needed. Not for a lady like apperance. She offered another small smile and nodded. In one swift movement Clarice stood, her wings perking slightly to keep her balanced.
"Yes, let's."
She walked quietly over to the shade, beneath the trees at the edge of the meadow. Once there, she sat down again, making sure to arrange her skirts correctly to do so. Her slender fingers once again picked off anything from nature on her blue skirts before she was competely settled. Some things would never change.

Rackhir watched her, almost with a love struck puppy look which he quickly whiped off his face. No way did he do anythign on a first meeting. He was a scoundral but he was still a gentleman as well.
Quietly he followed, rising to his feet only to settle beside her again, this time with one leg stretched out and the other propped up.
"It's a warm day today..."

"It is the season where the weather warms up, yes. Give it a day or two and it might be raining again."
Spring was always so fickle. Fickle like children who have been offered candy for staying inside and doing homework, but their friends are outside calling for them. Clarice smiled at the grass, thinking on the children in the neighborhood. Most of them tended to be dirty and loud, but they were children. A simple bath and lecture could fix that completely.
"Once summer hits everyone will wish for the rain. It's just how it is...we're never happy with what we have."

"When is anyone ever happy what they have?"
He offered her a small smile as a thought crossed his mind, more out of curiousty.
"Tell me, miss. What does a lady like yourself do to stay cool in the summer?"
