"Shade's easy. There's the den or around the rocks." She nodded towards the mentioned spots. As long as she got to get into the nice, cooling shade, she didn't mind which. The heat was starting to sap her strength some. Not that she'd admit such weakness to Spaki, after saying about weak outsiders. Though she had been out all morning in direct sun, which was more than some puny outsider could take, for sure...
"And they daren't come here because they'd end up as bleached bones! I wonder how long it takes to bleach them...but yes. They'd blackout and die because they aren't good enough to live here." Like her brother Ilahle just said these things because they were normal and made her feel better about herself. She'd yet to meet anyone from outside the family, let alone an outsider.

"Ok. And then when its darker, we can look for a special shade thing. For us when we dun wanna be near the den! " He said, smiling. The idea of a little 'club' thing amused him, he and his siblings could go hang out at a cool shadey place far from the adults! as much as he looke dup to his parents, there were lways those annoying moments.
"Yeah. They don't know how hard it is out here! mum prolly goes far to get the foods. " He nodded. "They prolly think our life is easy, cause we're so strong! " He flicked his tail, and sped up a bit, though making sure he was still his sisters 'umbrella'. "we work harder than they do. " he said smugly. To him, the idea of lazy outlanders was rather easy to picutre, they had water and trees and shade!

"Mum says she'll teach me where to go when we're a bit older. And you boys will help too - because Firekin males aren't lazy and stupid. Some other prides, all males do is sleep all day and squabble. How dumb is that?" She butted her head softly against his shoulder again, barely a brush. Always affectionate, even on the move. Besides, no brother of hers was going to be a dumb lazy male. They'd be hunters!
"And that's a good idea. Maybe we should try further along the rocks though mum and dad would be able to find that...we could learn the way to the water on our own. We could go there for shade."

"Hey! " Spaki protested. "We're not lazy! We just..protect the home while you hunt, yeah. " He said, smiling to himself. That sounded very important! "But hunting does sound fun.. " He said to himself, flicking an ear at the sound of flapping wings. Vultures occasionally flew by, in hopes that something had died.
"Those bird are stinky. " He said suddenly, wrinkling his nose and lowering his ead, ears flat. "And stupid, too! Landing so close to home! " He grumbled, and sprinted a bit to arrive under the shade of a rock, touching against its kind-of cool, not sun-bathed side. "I bet mum could catch one! "

"Bet she could but she said they're dangerous even to adults. Besides they're probably rotton to eat since they eat rotton food."
Ilahle regarded the vultures cooly then joined her sibling in the shade. Something about them spooked her, so she made a point of stopped to watch them swoop. In her childish way she thought that if she exercised her courage by makingherself afraid, it'd grow stronger. Fortunately for her the childish logic would work over time.
"They don't hunt properly, silly stinky birds. They're as bad as the sun."

"Pff. Mom could kill one, jsut not eat it! " He grinned. "Maybe she just means when they're in flocks 'n stuff. Like when osmething dies, a bunch come over! " he said smartly, flicking his tail, clearly believing in his idea.
But unfortunately, since it was noon now, the sun was right above them, and the shadows were pretty skinny. Fortunately, their rock was kind of curved over-- so it was helpful.
"Its prolly cuz they're so clumsy. Did you ever see theway they hop around?! They look so stupid. I doubt they could catch anything even if they fell on it! " He snorted, rolling onto his back and pawing at the rock, scratching his claws against it a bit, as if to sharpen them, but realising with annoyance that the sound was terrible. "Stupid screaming rock. " He muttered.

"You should wait for a tree for that." Her nose wrinkled up. That rock was screaming! Urgh. Horrible sound. The lion version of nails on a blackboard. Absently, she stretched out her own claws and held up a paw to look at. She'd need to scratch at a tree soon too.
"If we stay away from the stink-birds, we could always go find one as well as our own shade, when it cools down later. If you want."

"Yeah. " Spaki wrinkled his nosed, flattening his ears. "But there aren't many tress. "
He perked his ears, however, at what his sister said next. "Yeah! And maybe we can get a branch to scratch at home. " He smiled, but to get a branch, he'd have to get a bit stronger.
"What did mom call them again? " Spaki rolled again, this time peering out from under the rock to look at the vulture. "Vulmer? "

She lowered her paw. Erm. There had been a 't' in that word somewhere, but she had been so afraid of the stink-birds when they'd been told, she'd been trying not to listen. Her face had been pressed against Ra's fur. But yes...where did that 't' go?
"Vultmer? Maybe? Well, whatever they're called, I'm avoiding the vultmers."

"Must be vultmer. " He nodded. He watched as the vlture landed on the ground, stretching its wings there as it couldn't find a better place to land.
"Hey.. " Spaki snorted in annoyance. "Look at it! " He frowned, watching it for a few moments, then feeling utterly disgusted at the smell. "Ewww. " He growled, and wriggled out from under the rock. "HEY. " He shouted at it, perking his ears. "Get outta here, stinky! " He growled, flicking his tail furiously. The vulture lifted its head, looked at him, then seemed to ignore; there was no thread here.

From reasonably relaxed and resting happily in the shade with her brother, Ilahle changed the second the 'vultmer' landed near enough for it's stink to reach them. She was back on her paws in a flash, head lowered, snarling. It was bravado in the face of utter fear. Look at me, I'm big, don't you dare come near me...
She didn't care if the flew up in the sky or hopped about further away, but this one had freaked her out. They were so...so...wrong. They ate dead flesh that was too rotton and should have killed them. Strange and featherless alien heads with razor sharp beaks. Claws that were big enough to rip a cub or pick them up. Dark nightmares against the blue skies, that's what they were!
Irrational, she kept up her steady growl for a few seconds, then turned to start back towards the den. Keeping very close to the rock-wall.

He blinked, looking back at his sister for a moment. What was.. wrong with her? He snorted, and turned to face the vulture again, this time running up towards it and giving up the best roar he could manage. But he stopped short of it, rather.. unpleased of the idea of touching such stench.
"Go away! " He demanded, and felt a little hurt-- and surprise, when it laughed. "I said-- " He started, but was interrupted as the vulture suddenly thrust its head in his direction, and the young firekin backed away involuntarily. "Since when do I obey you? " It chuckled, and flapped its wings for balance, as it had almost clumsily flopped on the ground.
"Um.. Because. I'm.. Smarter than you are. " He couldn't exactly say bigger; he'd seen the wingspan of that thing! But now, Spaki was actually making himself look smaller, crouching with his shoulders hunched, backing away.
"How is that? " It teased, and just to annoy his sister, who seemed rather upset, flapped its wings and got airborne, landing on top of the rock, then squawking in surprise, lifting off immediately.
Spaki couldn't hold back his amusement. "You just proved it! Don't land on hot things. " He sneered, but scurried quickly under the rock with his sister anyways, just incase he'd gotten it upset.

She picked up speed when the vultmer-thing got closer and was practically running by the time she reached the family den. Luckily for her it was empty. Ilahle flung herself down in the the backcorner and curled up, then got up to make sure Spaki was following. Not that she wanted him here, but she didn't want him eaten.
Since he was behind her, Ilahle went back to curling up. It was so embrassing how much those birds scared her! And that one had talked and her brave brother.

"Puh. Stupid bird. " Spaki muttered, peering around the edge of the den entrance then wriggling back to see his sisters state. Why was she so.. scared?
But he knew better than to comment on that, instead he went behind her, then kind-of flopped on hs sisters back, using her as an elbow rest for his paws. "We sure showed that vultmer! " He said brightly. "You sohulda seen its face when it tried to land on the rock! " He grinned like a dork, lifting a paw to bat at one of his sisters ears.
"I doubt they're dangerous." He said with a grin, talking positively to cheer up his sister.

"I hope it got burnted." Ilahle didn't really want him here, she wanted to sulk - wasn;t going to happen if he made her sort of smile tugging at her ears! She sighed and tried to turn her self round so she could n** one of his ears. It worked with a small wriggle. Ilahle tugged it with her teeth and thought for a moment.
"They are dangerous when we're little Spaki. Don't go near one again, 'kay? Please. I don't want you eaten." If lions could pout and use puppydog eyes, that's what tactic she was trying on her brother. Wide brown eyes, unhappy sort of smile. She just knew that those birds could hurt you. They were too ugly and scary not to be able to. And the smell...maybe that was death-smell. They were just so wrong...
