As soon as it had blushed, Dee's face drained of color. "Yeah, I... I'm worrying that they may have done something like that to me." She shook her head, eyes widening. "N-not that it doesn't work for you! I mean, you hold yourself well."

Dee felt as if she had wandered upon a taboo subject. She tucked in her lower lip and chewed nervously.

Her upper canines protruded in an almost-comic fashion. "I think I've figured out part of what they put in me. Probably cephalopod, based on my eyes and lips and...these." She fingered the thin fringes of her forearms. "All I can figure for the rest is mammalian predator, a bit like yourself...but I'm not convinced it's feline."

Dee scratched behind one of her sharply-pointed ears and regarded her friend with a shy expression.

Richard gave a little yrowl and then ruffled the top of Dee's mane, almost petting it. She felt an urge to groom it but settled for just licking her chops. "Yes I hide in the jungle for a month and sneak around in the dark so no one sees me. I've handled this so well." She rolled her eyes, she seemed in good humor despite the bitter topic.

She took along look at Dee's features as she listed them. Nodding at each one. "I don't suppose you;ve asked Sabin what it is exactly? I'm a monster out of a children's game appearently." She shook her head, then drew Dee in to brush her muzzle against the side of her face. She released her then.

The mane-ruffle and the nuzzle felt good on an alien, instinctual level. The attention even seemed to calm Dee somewhat. Her lips rippled in a 'wave', then slowed their wriggling until they merely twitched every other moment or so.

"I'm afraid I may punch Sabin if and when I see him next," she replied. "Don't get me wrong--I'd love to sit him down and pick his brains and find out how they managed to do all this, but a part of me would like to KICK IN his brains." She looked away, eyes glazed. "I don't like being used. Hell, if they had come out and asked me to be part of this, I might even had volunteered my genes. So much for that."

Richard smirked and her tail gave a single lash. "Choice is not something the labs like to allow us." Richard certainly would never have volunteered for this, not in a million years. She turned away to retrieve the bag of meat she had brought with her. "How long has it been since you've eaten something solid?" She didn't wait for an answer, popping the meat on a plate and putting it in the microwave. The apartment soon smelled of warm beef.

As the scent of cooking meat permeated the duplex, Dee's mouth began to water. Her lips resumed their writhing dance.

"Ahh... n-nothing of much substance for the past few days," she replied, but her golden eyes were trained on the little oven. "Gawd, that smells good. What'd you put on it? Is it marinated?" Her stomach audibly growled as she ran her tongue over the eager nubs of her upper lip. Something in the buried, primal part of her subconscious snarled hungrily.

"You're a saint, Richard." She muttered off-hand, staring at the microwave with bared teeth.

Richard started purring to herself as she watched Dee's reaction to the smell of the meat, pleased with herself. "Any thing smells delicious after a couple days with out solid food. Its just a steak from the cafeiteria. Its not was rare as I perfer but I don't eat anything but meat these days." The microwave beeped and Richard with drew the plate with her smaller hands while his right pawhand dug around for the knife and fork she had grabbed. When eating in the cafe she always grabbed a fork and knife but rarely remember to use them.

She set the the plate on the desk and gestured at Dee to come sit while Richard took a seat on the bed.

Dee's stomach growled audibly as she took a seat at the table. "Th-thank you!" she replied to the feline's gesture. Her golden eyes were fixed on her prey as it steamed forth from atop its microwave-safe perch. "I love steak."

Moments later, Dee had begun devouring her first real meal in days. A mutant cannot live on trail mix and liquor alone! As she chewed, her lip nodules seemed to spread out and away, leaving Richard a clear view of those shiny white canines. Dee's nostrils flared as she fed, and ever so often came a deep-throated mumble of pleasure.

As Richard watched Dee eat she grabbed one of Dee's pillows and placed it between the bases of her tentacles so she could lean against the head board without crushing them. She thought back to her own experiances, Dee seemed to be much farther along mentally than she remember herself being after her first transformation. Besides the tentacles she didn't remember making any of the feline sounds she now uttered in the course of a normal conversation. Nor had she actually noticed a strong preference for meat. Was Dee going to go farther than her? Would her descent slow and they would equalize?

She mused on these things while Dee finished her meal. "Meat's all I can eat now. Good thing I never understood vegetarians." She smirked a little at that but the tone was purely conversational.

Dee dabbed at her lips with a napkin as she sat up and grinned. "Some of my favorite dishes are vegetarian. I have to admit I'm an omnivore, but I sure do like a good steak or some sushi now and again." She glanced down at her plate, eyeing the t-shaped scrap of bone. For some reason, she felt compelled to pick it up and glean off every bit of delicious tissue.

Instead, she finished her water bottle and sat back in her chair. "That was fantastic, and such a nice gesture...is there anything I can do in return for *you* Richard?"

Richard's tail, usually in constant motion of some sort, froze at the question. Suddenly she felt on the spot. This was a bit of an odd situation for her, there was no secondary motive here, which was unusual for Richard. In most situations where she did do a favor for someone she was expecting one in return. She had just wanted to check up on the woman that had helped her through a tough spot and who's company she enjoyed. After so many hostile encounters lately literally such as Seth or simply difficult such as Gaius' reaction to her change, Richard was just seeking some normalcy.

Her gaze lingered on Dee's figure and face for a moment before she shut the half formed thought down and looked away, shifting her gaze over the dresser. "Ah, nothing. Don't worry about it."

Dee's stomach dropped. Shoot, did I say something wrong? Did I drool *that* much while I ate?

"Ah...n-no? Okay," Dee's expression turned a little nervous. "I mean, if there's any favors you need or books you were looking for or even a birding guide, just let me know." Dee's fingernails drummed on the t-bone and, before she knew what she was doing, she was picking it up and nibbling on it.

Richard was still slightly stunned from the previous thought, she did never thought about.. that. Or she hadn't since Cathy had died, that part of Richard had died with her.

She shook herself from her half gazed state. "Wha? Sorry." She fumbled for words for a moment, "You just reminded me of my wife, my ex-wife, for a moment there." She nervously licked the back of her hand and ran it through her black hair.

Dee chewed nervously, cheeks blushing beneath their dark complexion. "Ah...no, that's allright." Her lips palpated the bone as she chewed. Her attention still drifted, desperately clawing for a change of subject.

"So how did you find out it was all a joke? The April Fools thing, that is..."

Wordlessly Richard pulled back her left sleeve, revealing the healing bit wound left by Seth. The entire forearm looked like a bruise that was just beginning to fade, dull red scabbs formed a pattern across the arm that clearly indicated that some thing or some one with large teeth had caused this injury. She pointed to it. "See that? I got it about two weeks ago. It would just be a scar if we were under sedation for five months. That combined with a tattoo on the buttocks of an islander seemed to indicate a certain michevious spirit." She chuckled, "That and I haven't sprouted more fur yet, leads me to believe these." She patted her belly, "weren't loaded."

Dee winced at the sight of Richard's wound, and returned the bone to the plate. She cleared her throat, realizing how she had fed, and wiped her hands casually with a napkin as if to say 'I meant to do that.'

"I see...but what on earth happened to your arm?" Her eyes flashed as she felt a surge of protective instinct for her friend. "Who did that to you?"
