Crystal blinked back down at the child that had a grasp on her. She gave a startled little laugh, inclining her head enthusiastically. "It would be my pleasure, young one." She grinned down at Ment, unable to help herself; it was so easy for her to get caught up in childish glee. "Lead on!" she laughed again, giving his hand a little squeeze. Hoping to address him correctly, she mentioned, "That's a beautiful skirt, young one. May I ask your name?"

Sati polished her monocle, boggling slightly as the entranced woman kept staring at the uncanny smoke. There was definitely something beyond normal in that tiny cup of oil. Sati irritatedly waved away a backflipping dog made of the purple vapor, leaning over to glance at the oil.

It looked alive.

"Something isn't right," she muttered, brushing a loose lock of hair out of her face. "Excuse me," she called out, looking for whoever seemed to be in charge of the pleasantly-scented, frightful burner. "Who-What is this?"

"My name is Ment." He smiled, leading her over to where Irene was, "What's yours Ma'am?" He chatted with her on her way over, blurting out pleasant 'Excuse Me's' as they went. Closer and closer they crept towards Irene until Ment could see him clear enough, "There he is!"

Skie motioned with her hand, gesturing in the direction of Ment as she spoke up, "That child said it was called Dark Carnival if that helps any." She smiled, glad to see that everything was alright.

She had to admit though, that the oil did indeed seem to acting... alive. It was unnerving. She looked up, wondering what the answer was as well. It didn't strike as not right though... and she wondered why the other would consider it to be so, "Excuse me, but what's wrong?"

Sati settled down, considering. "Dark Carnival. Ominous," she muttered.

"Ah, I suppose my imagination is acting up," said Sati sheepishly, turning to Skie. That's right, no one else seemed as jolted by the whole affair as Sati. Magic always had rubbed the merchant the wrong way; perhaps this was a harmless cantrip, a little magician's trick to liven up the party.

Sati smoothed her hair back into its jeweled clip, like a preening bird settling its feathers. This was nothing, she kept telling herself, this was nothing. The oil was not alive. Oil could not be alive. (Much later, when she had the monumental opportunity to tell everyone "I TOLD YOU SO," Sati merely graciously nodded her head and said, "Hmmm." But in that moment, Sati decided that she certainly wasn't going to make a scene.)

Sati saw a girlish young boy introducing two adults out of the corner of her eye. She smiled stiffly, trying to regain her calm. "Ah. Is that the child? How charming," she said. He really was. It reassured her a bit.

The ongoings seemed a bit vague around Abigale, and she tilted her head to see the trapeze artists begin their routine within the smoke. She chuckled and laughed when the clowns tumbled and fell, sighing in contentment.

The total obliviousness to the people around might be from the magic, from curiousity- though Abby decided it had to be something between the two. When she saw the smoke change into the ringmaster giving a bow, the woman lifted her hands and only just stopped herself from clapping before she looked all the more foolish.

She was, after all, stained from the split punch earlier. No need to look more embaressing.

Crystal chuckled, allowing herself to be lead. "Nice to meet you, Ment. My name is Crystal." The name didn't really distinguish the child's gender, so she was stuck calling him 'young one' until she could figure it out without making a total fool of herself. Stormy eyes followed Ment's indication, quirking her eyebrows in amusement under her mask. "That gentleman is Lord Irene," she said, the amusement tinging her voice like unshed laughter, "You picked quite a man to dance with you."

She nodded, adjusting her dress yet again. A suit really would have been a better choice, no matter what her friends said. "It does... And yet the little figures that keep appearing in the smoke are rather charming."

She watched the merchant for a moment, wondering why she seemed so unsettled. "Are you allergic to incense? You seem a little.... anxious." She hoped she was being polite. She wasn't particularly familiar with the pleasantries that accompanied such an event.

Then, as Sati asked after the child, she nodded, "Yes! Such a cute little kid." She smiled as she spoke. Children held a special place in her heart and his antics were amusing. Turning back to Sati, she laughed lightly, "Oh! I forgot to introduce myself! The name's Skie. Are you a merchant." She'd stepped back a bit so that she could introduce herself to both women, bowing slightly as she did so.

The ringmaster bowed to Abigale in the smoke, disappearing quickly into what seemed like a thick fog of the dark blueish colored smoke. It grew bigger now, almost like smoke rising from a large fire. It slunk out towards her as if reaching a hang to grab at her.

Within moments, a shrill laugh was heard and an explosion of oil, smoke and a little bit of glass were witnessed. The table crashed to the ground loudly, gathering the attention of everyone in the area, including Olivia who only starred in horror at what was taking place.

Than came a bounce, upon the glass. Once more a shrill cackle, and in front of Abigale looking down at her were the deep blue eyes of a child, with a twisted grin upon its face. "Did you like the show?" It questioned, quirking its head to the side.

Dark Carnival was born from the chaos! Secretive, Mischievous and Cruel. Dark Carnival's scent leads you on until it is too late, and you are than part of its circus.

In the child's hands was its cousin Scent, Lemon. With a smirk it giggled, "Catch me if you can~" And with that the child bounced upon it's giant ball, plowing through the Masqueraders, and sending poor Olivia into a panic.

Crystal couldn't care less for manners as the loud crack of the table breaking reverberated through the room; she gaped, one hand partially covering her mouth in shock. What in the blazes had just happened? Is that what the weird smell was?

Before she could think further on it, the boy and his ball came bouncing through the crowd. She looked on with horror, having enough presence of mind to gather the child - skirt and all - into her arms and back onto the dance floor while avoiding the other frightened patrons. Her skin ran cold as she realized she couldn't get to Irene. Uncertain, trying to keep a cool head while some of the women shrieked and panicked, Crystal made her way to where the fiasco had started.

Clasping Ment to her body, she cried out to those around the delapidated table, "What do we need to do?"

The woman had stared with an open mouth when she saw smoke billowing up, in a state of shock and unable to move when there was so much commotion. Abigale had just enough time to close her mouth before being doused in the oil- yet more stains for her bandages. Her caked glasses were promptly removed, showing that her eyes were the only things not covered in the liquid on her torso. Blinking down, she gasped when she saw the bright blue eyes, and looked near faint when the little beastie of a child darted off before her.

"W-Wait!" She cried when she came to her senses, and chased after the boy. Not seeming to care too much for the fact she was covered in dark bluish black goo that had once been the lit oil.

The smoke ballooned and folded, and Sati had enough sense to duck down and shield her eyes from the exploding glass to her right. She peered through her arms at the chaos- there was a child in front of the bandaged woman, as if out of nowhere! Sati lowered her arms, shaking a bit of glass out of one of her bracelets.

Well, that explained that.

She ducked again as the child bounced in her direction. She was beyond panic now, completely calm and commanding as adrenalin surged through her veins. She stood back up, brushing herself off quietly.

"The oil was alive," she wanted to say.

"I told you so," she wanted to say.

Instead Sati merely graciously nodded her head and said, "Hmmm."

Irene was...lost in the crowd.

Too much commotions was going on, and, while he was relieved that the poor woman was saved by someone else, he was stuck in an extremely uncomfortable position, where people cared less for him than something else. Irene caught a shadow that bounced around in the ballroom, but his sight was slurred by people rushing back and forth. From the chatterings he realized that something important seemed to be stolen. Irene mentally rolled his eyes. This night was just getting more and more...strange.

But it didn't matter what was going on or who had stolen what, Irene's first task was to get himself out of the center of the crowd, and that was precisely what he did. Or at least he tried to. People seemed to loose their manners as something excite them, positive or negative. He grumbled at the rudeness of people that ran into him without apologizing or those who just pushed him away like an object. Irene regretted ever coming into this place. Why did he come? Oh yes...his mother said something about the big city ball. Surely she had expected that those who were invited were mostly out of lower classes?

Well, he had gotten into this big mess, might as well deal with it. He pushed with all the forces he could, while excusing himself whenever others gave him strange looks. He didn't care about what was causing the stir...and he did not want to be part of this craze.

Skie jumped as the glass exploded and cringed away, watching as the child bounced off, closely followed by the other woman. "What...?" She glanced quickly at the case to find it empty and whipped her gaze around to follow the child.

"Did that child just....?" She wasn't sure what to say. This confused her greatly. She knew what magic was but oil summoning a child? It didn't make any sense. "What just happened?" Her expression grew unsure and shifted constantly. A standard, stable ball she could handle but this was too much. She moved her hands up to run a hand through her hair nervously but winced as she found a shard embedded into the muscle just above her thumb.

Gritting her teeth, she pried the glass out and dropped the shard among the others gathered on the floor. Sucking on the wound, she hoped it become infected. There had been oil on it....

Looking up, she thought she heard the merchant say something, "Did you speak?" She tilted her head to the side as she backed away from the case, no longer wanting to be near it. That Dark Carnival smell wasn't nearly as pleasant at it had initially been.

Degas sat in a corner facing a wall having decided upon food and set to nibbling a small plate of fruit and ranch sauce. He licked the watermelon free of dressing while day dreaming. Unknown to him the world moved on with chaos drifting through...well bouncing through the air.

"Man is a strange ctreature with passion and fury. Oh what man makes of himself when the shining light of morality sets and he is no longer made to take account of his actions. He strikes at his fellow person like a snake. Full of venom and spite and the older we grow the more our poison with each bite grows. Degas yawned and rubbed at his face. "My head feels larger than it should be."
