So what do you do when you live by yourself in a one bedroom apartment, make only enough money to support your single-person's life style, and are expecting the arrival of not one or two, but three children in a matter of days? This was the question Sheryl had been asking herself ever since she had arrived home after work yesterday. Now she sat at her laptop, wondering how on earth she was going to take care of these kids.

"I'm going to have to find a better paying job," she spoke out loud to herself, scanning across the electronic want ads of the interwebs. "Something really well paying," she muttered in annoyance. The biggest problem with most of these jobs? The money wouldn't be in the bank for months...and these kids would be here in a few days! Sure, Sheryl had enough saved up to take care of the basics for then...clothing, diapers, food, a crib; but after that what was she going to to?

A heavy sigh, Sheryl thought about trying for a promotion within her own company. FilezForYou took in the documents and files of other companies, offering quick and easy filing methods that could either be kept in storage at the FilezForYou main office or sent back to the parent company. Sheryl was just one of the many grunts who sat behind a desk all day, sorting through page after page of information that usually made very little if any sense to her.

Surfing through to the FilezForYou home page, she dove into the world of posted job positions and offerings. Lots of entry level spots, a few for managerial offices which Sheryl could never see herself reaching...

"Well, hello...what's this?" Online filing? Work at home? Sheryl felt her heart starting to race as the job laid out the requirements...all of which she was more than skilled in. They only asked for current hires from within the company to take a few orientation classes to make the switch from paper filing to electronic.

"Just a few hours of training...I'd have this spot set!" she exclaimed happily. And the payout? It was almost triple what she was making now...how about that for a pay raise? And because she was already in the system, at most it would take a few weeks to start making a difference in her back account!

Within a few clicks, Sheryl has sent off her application. Setting back in her chair, feeling much better about the future, she fiddled with the relic around her neck. They'd have a good life, she was sure of it. The sort of life little godlings should have.

"You know, you're going to need names," she spoke out loud to the amulet. "Hmm..." Pondering, she started up her internet browser again, surfing away to Google's Top Ten Baby Name Websites.

Curly red hair typed up in a bun behind her head, Sheryl sat in her tub of bubbles with a very smug smile on her face and the necklace around her neck. A bottle of her favorite champagne chilled beside her, an already filled glass held delicately in her hands. She hummed a little triumphant sounding tune, wiggling her toes through the warmth of the bath.

"So I got the job," she spoke out loud to the necklace, and then promptly squealed, lifting her glass in the air for a toast. "I got the job!" She laughed, giddy, sipping her drink and setting the glass down near the bottle.

"Oh, it's going to be so nice," she cooed, settling into the water with her eyes shut. "We'll find a nice big house. You'll share a nursery at first, but you'll all have your own rooms eventually." Thoughtfully, she lifted the necklace up where she could look at the beautiful design.

"You're all so different...I don't expect you to want to share a room forever. Especially you, Hauke." And Sheryl giggled, speaking the little boy's name out loud. It was like talking to a pregnant woman's belly...maybe they could hear her? "I know you'll eventually grow tired of having your sisters around."

"Especially Caprice. You're going to cause me all sorts of trouble, aren't you, Young Lady?" Her mind remembering the image of the blue winged fairy...woman. Evidently, despite the genderless body the deity had chosen to refer to itself as female. Who was Sheryl to argue?

"And Arwen...heh, you'll be trouble of a different sort." The furred girl...who would have her heart broken while breaking hearts herself. Oh, Sheryl could see the talks she'd be having with that child; she just hoped the little one wouldn't develop so quickly too early.

"Hmm," Sheryl mused with a smile...taking another sip of her champagne. "It's definitely going to be an adventure."

It was only a few days later, and Sheryl sat with Caprice...the little winged child finally having fallen asleep in the red head's lap. Quietly sighing, the mother looked up to check on both Arwen and Hauke, who still were cuddled up at the other end of the couch, asleep. It was standard procedure by now...the little boy and his furry sister would be the first two out, Caprice being so full of energy that she kept going long after her siblings were down.

Carefully, slowly, Sheryl stood and shuffled the little fairy over towards the other two, smiling as Arwen's soft backside offered a welcomed pillow for her older sister. Another sigh of relief, glad that they were all napping finally, Sheryl made her way around their small living room, picking up toys as she went...tucking them away in the cardboard box that was serving as a toy box for now.

"First thing I teach them is to clean up after themselves," she chuckled, straightening a picture that one of them (she was almost sure it had been Caprice) had knocked over.

"Do you think I can get some work done now?" she asked to the pile, shaking her head as she found her laptop and settled at the table off to the side of the room.

"Congratulations, Ms. Swinton," Sheryl quietly read out loud, glancing up at the triplets with a grin. "You have been granted the position of Online Filing Assistant, Class B," she nearly squealed, giddy about her promotion. The training had gone better than expected, and the company had sent their tech managers in early that morning to get all the wiring set up from her laptop.

"Expectations include...blahblah...filing done accordingly, etcetera, etcetera. So basically everything they told me at orientation," she finally concluded.

"By next week, I'll have enough money to at least be looking for a new apartment," she whispered, feeling hope and pride swell in her heart. "Then we'll just move ourselves away, into someplace new and wonderful for you kids to grow." Sheryl glanced over at the pile again, watching as Arwen lightly swatted at something in a dream.

Unfortunately, a second swat landed squarely on Hauke's nose. Which wouldn't have been terrible, but Hauke was not the soundest sleeper of the group. His small nose wrinkled, he whined gently, his face slowly starting to turn red as his slumber was disturbed.

"Lords," Sheryl muttered under her breath, setting the laptop down and scuttling over to the group. "Shh, shh," she hushed, carefully lifting the young boy up from where he rested next to his sisters.

"Mmmeeeh," he softly cried, his large blue eyes fluttering open. Why did his nose tickle? It hadn't tickled when he went to bed...who tickled his face?

"It's okay, Hauke," the woman purred, the boy who could have passed as her biological son clinging to her shoulder and looking around, rather confused. "Come on, come with Mommy and we'll get some work done, ok?"

Settling back down in front of her laptop, Sheryl turned the little boy around to face the screen. "Laptop," she said with a snicker, pointing at the screen. Hauke's little eyes blinked at the brightness of the screen...but there was something almost comforting about the groupings of numbers and letters that cluttered the surface. Timidly, his little fingers reached out to poke at the keyboard, and for perhaps the first time in a long time the little boy gave a look that wasn't worry or fear.

"Let's help Mommy do some work, ok?" Sheryl suggested with a snicker, squeezing the little boy around his middle as they settled down to get Sheryl's first assignments done.

"Come on...come on, Arwen..." It was a new day, and Sheryl sat in the middle of her small living room floor, trying to coax Arwen to walk from the couch to her outstretched hands. The furry child had been attempting her steps around the couch and coffee table doe days now...today just might be the day she'd walk on her own.

Hauke sat on the couch, watching his mother and younger sister with mild interest. The boy hadn't shown any interest in walking, or even in pulling himself up, preferring to crawl along or (if he could manage it) be carried by Sheryl. He was quite, save for a small whine every time Arwen started to move off from the couch.

"You're supposed to be encouraging her," Sheryl stated with a snort. "Not preventing her from trying." Hauke was quiet again, his small round face looking as solemn as ever. He didn't want Arwen to learn to walk. If Arwen learned to walk, Caprice might...

CRASH! The sound of falling blocks filled the air, drawing the attention of mother and two children. Caprice stood amongst a pile of blocks, laughing and clapping her hands happily as she kicked the blocks around.

It hadn't shocked Sheryl at all when Caprice started walking. She was the most active out of the three, always wanting whatever was just out of reach; one day Sheryl looked up from her laptop and there was Caprice toddling her way across the floor, without any encouragement from Mom at all.

"Now if you'd only take some lessons from your sister," Sheryl muttered out of the corner of her mouth. "Come on, Arwen...come to Mommy."

"Mahmah," Arwen repeated, one little arm reaching out for her mother's. And then, one foot shuffled...and another...and soon, there came Arwen, two steps away from the couch.

"That's it! Come on, Baby!" Sheryl suppressed her squeal, and nearly giggled as Arwen began shuffling her way forward despite Hauke's whine of disapproval.

"That's my girl!" Sheryl cheered as the little ball of fur walked right across the floor, smiling and flicking her ears around excitedly. Somewhere behind them, Caprice also cheered, mimicking her mother as Hauke whined again in displeasure.

Great...now he was going to have to learn to walk too.
