((No worries, deary. Life has been alittle hateful to me lately so... XP))

Alina had turned her creme dipped maw to the vine binding the paw. The sound of hasty paws brought the dark femme's eyes back forward and she crouched down in anticaption of the return pounce.

A low, playful, growl rolled out of the brown Hershey pup's throat as her attacker narrowed with in pouncing distance. "I'm not going down to easy." she warned lighty as her brown and off-white tassel swayed behind her.

Amarii flew towards Alina and, for a second, the slightly older femme thought she was caught. However, she rolled over onto her back kicking out with her front and hind legs with vigor. To no prevail with protecting her ears from the other's pale maw. Kicking out at the heart shaped thing on Amarii's right hip, along with the pale white and pink shoulder, to get the other off of her ear. Alina was laughing light-heartedly.

Almost to where she didn't hear the sound of something snapping. First thought was the vine on her back paw, though that was banished when she found it still stuck.

"Amarii stop!" she lowly growled catching the scent of something new, but then again familar in the area. The fur instinctively bristling on the back of her neck in a chill that coursed the pup's body.

Amarii had her teeth clamped firmly upon her friends ear. She was so enthralled in her game she'd completely forgotten about her mother, Mayrii, and surely wasn't paying any ounce of attention about what might or might not be around them.

Alina was a challange - she was slightly older, and she really wasn't giving in to the red and white furred pup. She felt her body being pushed against, felt padded feet kicking at her side and belly and shoulders. Would she relinquish her grip on Alina?

NEVER~!

Little giggles and snorts escaped the femme, interrupting her 'menacing' growls and snarls.

This was truly a puppies bliss. . . . there was nothing better then games!

If her ears caught wind of the snapping sound, the wolf pup gave no notice. In fact, she was so caught up trying to dominate Alina that she almost didn't hear her cry to stop. Thankfully, Alina's own struggling had ceased, which told the little beauty that something wasn't right.

Ear still in her mouth, Amarii paused, growl dying in her throat as she studied her friend. Red stained ears pricked as she saw the brown wolfs body language change from friendly to nervous. Her bristeled fur, her low snarl. . . what was going on?

Was this a trick?

No . . . she seemed too worried. Releasing Alina's ear, Amarii let her gold eyes look about the forest. "What's going on? What's wrong?" She whispered, unsure if this was all part of their game.

It didn't seem nearly as fun as wrestling. . . .
What was Alina afraid of? Amarii didn't hear anything out of the ordinary. The forest sounded just like any forest would.

Alina's small heart pounded in her ears, mainly from wrestling and such with Amarii, but it started to calm down. The droning sound eased to the level she needed it to be for acute hearing. At first the dark and crème colored femme was afraid that the other wouldn't heed her words.

But once the other sopping wet ear was released, the characters on the dark femme’s side were parallel to the log. Though the dry chocolate brown ear flickered, the wet ear strayed back to her new friend. Could the snap just have been something scurrying across the ground?

Hearing the tone of Amarii’s switch, Alina looked back to the pink and white pup. “It could be anything. I’m just use to …” the twitching black island in the crème maw caught the scent of something in the distance. “Do you smell that?” she inquired from her friend, quickly going to work on knawing off the restrictive vine.

Please, let it be a bear! Alina’s caramel eyes begged as they jittered between Amarii and the crowded trees around the pair.

Amarii's ears twitched, and she did indeed think she heard something. Something ruffeling, something moving along the woods around them. For a moment Amarii thought it might be Ravii, but, after straining her ears, she decided that it wasn't. Her mother was quiet but never snuck like that.

It just didn't SOUND like Ravii's footsteps, even on her most quiet trots! Besides, wouldn't Mayrii be with her? Unless she deposited the little pup back at the den. . . .

Her black nose twitched as she tried to pick up some sort of scent. What could it be. . .? She smelled something, but it sure wasn't like anything she'd smelled before!

"Hmm. . . I smell it," she agreed softly, tassle waving quickly behind her. Unlike Alina, though, Amarii had never had a bad experience with any animal. She'd seen and chased squirrels, and got stung by various insects from time to time, but all the animals her mother warned her about - lynxes, bears, foxes, coyotes, even large hawks - she'd never run in to one face to face.

Alina's concern caused Amarii's ears to fall back, but her eyes gleamed with good spirited adventure. "Wanna go find out?" She almost pleaded, turning to help gnaw away at the root that caught her friends foot.

The white and red pup couldn't tell if whatever might be out there was passing through or stalking them. What was it. . .? Oh, how Amarii wanted to find out! She just KNEW Mayrii should have come!

((Sorry my muse ran away for a few days -.- wink )

Alina twitched with anticaptation. Should I howl for Grandpa? No, he is resting and if I did, that would give off our location. The dark femme was calculating and forming a plan, quickly.

Hearing the constrictive vine snap around her ankle. Caramel eyes locked onto golden glittery orbs, "No. I rather not go looking for something that smells like a river." she answered with fallen ears. "I wouldn't want to see a friend hurt."

But as the words escaped the logoed pup's mouth, six multicolored dogs came bustling through the trees towards the two female pups. Alina's jaw slackened, at first, in fear and then quickly replaced with anger. Ears pinned back, a demand was barked from Alina. "Move and don't look back. Find anything that is too small for them to squeeze into."

The pup didn't like to take orders, but something about the situation pushed Amarii's pride aside. Now wasn't a time to argue. It seemed the Hershey pup knew more about what was going on (and what might be out there!) then she did! Before she had a chance to ask why they should run from the river, the six dogs appeared.

Jumping back, Amarii gave a starteled yelp. Hosnap! Ears back against her head, the red and white pup realized that whatever was chasing her was not a wolf! In fact, she didn't know WHAT they were! Wolf-monsters, really, with strange ears and short fur and crazy barks!

"Aack!" Fear moved over to allow panic to intervene. Ears glued to her head, the white and red wolf could only follow Alina. Some place small? Like a burrow? But where was a burrow!?! Encouraged by the barks and snarls behind her, Amarii pushed her paws as fast as they could carry her, eyes trying to find a good hiding spot. Bushes wouldn't work, neither would some fallen logs. . . .

Oh man. Why were river-monsters that looked sort of like wolves trying to eat them!? "What - what are they!?!" She panted, not sure she liked what was behind them very much.

((Oooh! Dogs + wolf puppies = run for your life! n_n; Alina have a run in with them before? Ravii's freaking out in my head. *laughs* She's like "AHH! MUST SAVE THEM NOW!" I'm holding her back for now. ~_^ But she might have to make an appearance. . . ))

Alina's eyes darted from side to side, looking for any thing that would give them cover. A heavy growl rolled out of the older femme's throat, "Why don't they jump off a cliff!"

Looking over her shoulder just too check on Amarii and insure her friends safety. The largest of the mangrels chasing them, was preparing to leap at the pink and white femme. Cutting sharply to her right, Alina hoped Amarii would follow.

She then spotted the black spot in the ground. A wide badger burrow. "This way!" she snarled and registered her friends question. "Those beast are slaves to two-leggers. Long story, but to cut it short, they are hunting my grandfather and me. I'm sorry." she panted slidding into the dirt burrow that smelt recently abandoned.

((I say bring Ravii on in. The poor dear must be worried ill about her daughter.))

Amarii heard the snarling beasts behind her. They were getting close, and for a split second the red and white female felt fear. Where was her mother?? Why were they being chased? They hadn't done ANYTHING wrong!

Ears pinned, she didn't have the breath to snarl as she bounded alongside Alina. When her friend abruptly turned, Amarii did her best to follow. The ground was dry but grass, leaves, and hidden roots made it a dangerous path. She just couldn't trip now~!!

Like a rocket, she was next to Alina in the burrow, sliding as far back into it as possible. Burrows were great but . . . . "Can't they - can't they dig!?" She yelped, keeping next to her brown furred friend as she tried to catch her breath. Only now, legs still, did she snarl angrily in her throat!

They had disrupted their game, and they were HUNTING her friend!?!

OH NO.

Not on Amarii's watch they weren't!

And on Ravii's watch, there was no way her daughter was going to be maimed by a bunch of miserble, wretched dogs! The violet and cream female never let her daughters out of her sight if she could help it. Amarii was a bit of a wanderer, and therefor needed to be watched constantly. She was young, naive, and the woods was not a safe place even for an animal that made it their home.

Away from the protection of the den, Ravii's protective nature came in handy this day.

She'd watched Amarii with the new pup, and had let them alone to their games. She'd fallen behind when they had begun their game, but her ears if not her eyes had given her enough information to know of their safety. Until the sound of dogs appeared. . .

Like a rocket, the female's hackles were raised, ears pressed foward, teeth bared. The snarl in her throat was full of hate and anger - just let them TRY To touch her daughter or her friend! Bolting over the burrow, she leapt in front of it, jaws snapping at the nearest dog.

So what if there was a small pack of them? She'd kill them all if she had to. . .

Sweet natured Ravii was no where to be seen. In her place was a very angry, very upset Mama. And the first dog that moved was as good as dead.

Heavy panting shook the hershey puppy as she growled at the entrance to the den. The mongrels could dig, but their paws would be hers to destroy if they tried to enter the burrow.

Caramel eyes looked over to her frantic friend. "Don't worry, they won't hurt you. I won't allow it." Alina growled out to her friend, but then the sound of something deeper tickled the inner ear of the dark pup.

There was something in the way of the mongrels, she knew this because their hot breath wasn't soffocating the burrow yet. The sound tickling her ears also sounded like low thunder right outside the burrow.

"It wasn't about to rain before we were attacked was it?" she questioned afraid to peer out of the burrow and get her head bitten off.

Amarii was still huddeled close to the brown and off-white pup. Fear had knocked up her adrenaline levels, though her only outfit was a low snarl and her bared white fangs. She tried to look as intimidating as possible, but it was hard to do with fear keeping her ears pinned tight to her head.

All she needed was one of those dogs paws or muzzles to show up and she'd be all over it. There was no way these river-dogs were going to get them!

An ear flicked as the low rumble reverberated around the den. Allowing one of her ears to p***k, the golden eyed female listened to the noise. It was too long to be thunder. Wait a minute - she recognized that sound. It was . . . it was . . . Oh wow - "It's Mom!"

Fear was momentarily forgotten, and she couldn't help but allow her crimson tassle to wag back and forth. If Ravii was here, they'd be all right. "Those dogs don't stand a chance!" She reassured her friend. Ravii always knew what to do.

Still standing her ground before the burrow, white fangs gleaming, Ravii's displeasure was obvious. Her tail was raised high, and her cream fur stood on end. Eyeing her componants, she thought nothing of herself and only of Amarii and Alina.

Stupid mutts . . . nothing but beggers that whined and cried and followed the ignorance of two-leggers.

As it was, the female spared no time to unleash her fury. If the dogs didn't turn and run, she'd make them. Any hesitation and their bodies would come face to face with her teeth and claws. Who cared if she was outnumbered?

Ravii had no choice but to drive them away. If she could just get one to run, or take out their leader, then there was a good chance they'd all take off and follow.

Alina's tail was as stiff as a rock, her eyes glowing as she watched the entrance for any intruding paws. Then two words made her ears flicker, "It's MOM!" Amarii had exclaimed.

The off-white muzzle curled down slightly as the brown head turned to look puzzled at her friend. "Your mother is out there?" she restated, then her dark ears flickered back to the closest of the growling. What was going on out there?

One of the smaller mutts to the right darted towards the den where the pup that traveled with the four-legged grass-eater's killer. The white and gray mongrel looked to his comrades and continued gaining on the lone femme before them.
