Verbena Moonsong I dunno. I think there was a lot better stuff out a few years ago. Not that I listen to the radio often now, but when I do, it quite often just seems kind of dull. I know. You thought it was generic five years ago, but you couldn't imagine it would get like this so quickly.d

5 years ago was that much better, huh? You know, I think I agree with you.

You can see it getting worse, much like you can see the clouds moving if you watch for long enough. Pop music was still somewhat simplistic in the fifties, but look at the direction it headed in the sixties, and then the seventies, etc! occasionally there were clever musical insights, but generally, it has simply been a slow regression to mediocrity of the high-profile 'art'.

I have to say that I lack much familiarity with pop music, but what I have heard is disappointing. Rap and hip-hop are particularly bothering to me- while they certainly have a strong beat, it's not exactly complex in most cases. The words are often offensive, and don't make much (if any) attempt at a statement or meaning, and the melody, when present, is just a repetitive line in the background. Shoot me now, please.

I just try not to think about it, honestly. Lets keep being music snobs- keep the real music alive!
Now we just need to pick a good, stirring march for our last stand.

I played that at a marching band game once, as we marched into the stadium filled with violent farmers who hate us and have been known to throw stuff... like D batteries...

I'm not much of a fan of pop at all. Though for some reason my 58 year old mother is into boy bands. Believe me, that's weird! 3nodding Then again I weird out my fiance by listening to a CD of The Hilliard Ensemble performing Perotin in the car. He thinks 13th century chant is just strange. *L*

Aww, early choral music is so much fun. Personally, I haven't heard much chant, but I have a soft spot for Renaissance polyphonics. Yay for the Tallis Scholars..
My friends are working hard to introduce me to rock (my MP3 collection has doubled in size, thanks to them razz ) and its various fringe varieties, but I'm not planning on making any efforts to understand pop or rap and hip-hop. I just have no interest in it.

Sorry, but I'm a big fan of rock (some at least), so I want to make sure they're doing this whole introduction thing right. xp Too bad you don't have the connection for downloading some of the albums I put up in the "Bands...." thread, there's a bit of good rock there.
