Perhaps Gantz? It's very mature though. There's alot of nudity and action but the overall concept is interesting and the art is very clean.
And yes! Kaori Yuki is a great suggestion as I see alot on this thread. Aside from Angel Sanctuary and Godchild by her, you may want to read Cruel Fairy Tales or Ludwig Kakumei.
I would always suggest Texhnolyze. Death Note fans may or may not like it due to constant political struggles in the city throughout the anime but the art was fantastic and in my opinion the story concept was great. It's my foremost favorite anime.

Umm... I have a few suggestions.
Full Metal Alchemist- I'm not really sure what this has to do with DN, but I still think that you would enjoy it.
Code Geass- I never really got that into Code Geass, but everyone I know loves it. They say if you like DN, you'll like Code Geass (However, I only saw... like... The first 2 episodes... which might explain why I'm not totally hooked on Code Geass)
Case Closed/Detective Conan- This, like DN, has a sort of detective theme. I feel Conan/Shinichi shares many of the same qualities as L. And I guess if Conan's L, then Prof. Agasa (I'm not sure if that's his name or not... It sounds like Agasa... Asaga, or something) would be Watari.
