Alora pushed herself more, not asking but forcing her muscles for more speed when they already complained of aching and grew tired from the run. She was just starting to gain and close in on the golden blurr ahead of her when suddenly his wings spread and he rose into the air swiftly....
Light! There was no trees now...She looked around wildly as her advantage of the trees was lost. No matter. She would catch him and drag the winged creature down. She stood there a moment, hesitant to chase him in the air and battle on the wind. Oh how she hated to fly. But she hated him more and her reason and logic were not there to think about what could happen. She did not think about his size and she had quickly forgotten what he could do with those pwoerful wings of his, and so she leapt forward, wings unfurled and took to the air in pursuit.
Here in the air, on the breeze...she was small and fast. But she was also not as strong as he. Doom loomed on the horizen for the lady bug flutter, she just didn't know it yet.

Like any bug, she may have been fast but had an inherent weakness in strong gusts of wind. She relied on fast wing beats while he could glide - a fact that he would use to his advantage. There were other things too, others he would consider such as the sun's searing heat and the reflective quality of his feathers but well...blinding would be a last resort.
No, he wanted her to see him coming.
And thus, swooping into a wipe arc he once again circled the mare in a somewhat goading fashion. A few more moments passed, a brief pause and then it came. He gave a large thrust of his wings and propelled himself forward - launching himself towards her before swooping up at the last minute.
There was a reason his mother said he took after a hawk.
Regardless, the momentum gave him the speed he required and as he shot up into the air once more he made a surprisingly smooth flip and directed his nose to the ground...or rather, directed it to the bugs back. Target sighted (through one eye), he folded his wings and fell[/].
He was a master of this, his signal move in combat and in general flight. He dove towards his pray like a hawk and would either impact or if necessary bolt back into the air at the last minute.
Nevertheless, like any heavy object from the sky he began to plummet. Fast.

Alora's wings spread as she flew, the orange shells outspread as the thin, black wings hidden underneath beat constantly and quickly, allowing her flight. She arrowed straight at the stallion, beating the wings faster. In the air she could use her hooves better although she was not the most experienced flier, she wasn't new to flying though. Battle on the wind however, was entirely new.
She turned her body to face upwards as the stallion circled high above her....and then she saw it.....he was suddenly speeding downwards toward her with incredible speed. She tried to swerve to avoid his attack, but she was not fast enough and the stallion collided with her. Legs tangled as she was knocked about in the air and she sought to grab hold of his wings with her teeth. She wanted to at least do some damage if she could. It would take her a few moments to recover after this one as she tumbled in the air, legs thrashing and kicking at the stallion, attempting to strike him.

Oh, she definitely hit him. He managed to lift his wing just in time but her flailing legs rammed against his sides and legs. While the underside of his belly received a number of gashes and his legs began to ache that was of little concern to him - honestly he didn't need them in the air. Thus, as she plummeted through the air he drew across to her left and began to spiral beside her.
One again his wings folded to provide him with optimum speed but it was his eyes that were the most striking. While blood covered the first, while blood seeped into his coat and mane the cold and malicious glint could be seen perfectly in the other. You see, this stallion had done exactly as he had intended - he had dehumanized her to nothing more than a monster and monsters were to be killed.
"Fool." He hissed darkly through the air, his voice sharp. It contained a whip-like quality that would have stung the sane more so than a slash to the side but it also foretold another attack.
It came with no warning, actually...the next few didn't.
As she continued to spiral, legs flailing he once again swooped in and landed a swift kick to her stomach, arching round to then ram her against the side with his full weight (which was reasonably heavy). Not fully satisfied with this though, he then dove down below her and with another thrust of his wings he threw himself upwards to ram right into her back.
However, this was not without complications. Yes, the impact had been hard, his weight and speed would have caused significant damage but in tackling her from below he had also left himself vulnerable. A calculated risk...but not exactly one he wanted.
Plainly, she had landed right on top of him and no amount of swift flying could have avoided that. Not to mention, she may have been tiny but supporting a soquili mid flight was not something even he could do!
Thus, as the mare and her flailing legs slammed against his back (causing him to release a silent hiss), both were thrown towards the ground below. Not a pleasant situation and the stallion's mind appeared to be in overtime as he attempted to find a solution to the problem.
One thing was for certain though - he was going to have to throw her off him. Where he was going to find the strength to perform the arch required though was anyone's guess.

Alora snapped her teeth at the stallion as she spiraled, trying to regain her composure in the air. She flailed hooves at him, which only made regaining control of herself harder to do, but it was done to keep him at bay and inflict injury if she could. She struggled to reach him with striking hooves and snapping teeth as he stared at her, exclaiming she was a fool.
She was ready to fight if needbe. Perhaps she could not manuever in the air, but she certainly could fight with teeth and hooves in close quarters. She would have been better off if she had a clear mind, but still she suffered a frenzied rage, lost in her insanity.
Alora felt the blows he dealt as they came....the stomach and her side..as he slammed against her side she snapped at his head injury, hoping to catch it and rip it open more. Finding him suddenly underneather her and ramming her back and hitting the wounds he had inflicted her with earlier in the batlle, caused the mare to lash out in crazed rage, legs and hooving pounding downwards to strike the stallion. She turned her head to bite at whatever was next to it...A wing perhaps...she was dead set on tearing out his feathers.
Finding herself on his back though gave her the chance to use his body to gain her footing. And so she took advantage of this, but she had not anticipated the tumbling fall the impact of her body to his would make. The crazed mare lost her balance and desparately latched teeth onto him tro hang on. Angrily she attempted to tear at the wings which were so close to her now, while wings beat rapidl and hooves thrashed at his body. If they were to fall and possibly find great injury or even death, she wanted to at least eliminate his chances for escape. His fate was now entwined with hers as they spiraled towards the earth below.

Cuts to the flank he could handle.
A stabbed eye, he could deal with that too.
But the excruciating pain that came as the mare thrust her mouth against his wings and tore at the feathers caused him to release a blood curdling cry. There was nothing more painful than tearing at the feathers that had been with him all his life - nothing that he would be more heartbroken to lose. He didn't mind a few being lost but...
His eyes widened as a large clump of tufty feathers passed his line of sight. He dreaded the sight of his wings and through his own pain he grit his teeth and rammed his hooves right into the mares stomach. He would cause as many wounds as possible, anything to get her off him! Alas, her grip was like a vice though and as she maimed his wings one thing became very very clear.
He could feel the wind flowing through the quickly forming gaps.
He was going to die.
Peachy. His mind mused bitterly through the pain, the evident sarcasm that he had kept locked up for an age shining through. Nevertheless, it was the mental kick he needed and with another roar he used what strength he had left to literally flip himself into a forward somersault.
His wings dragged with her additional weight upon one, he heard the crackle and crunch of protesting bone and feather but -
"Get. OFF." He roared, ignoring the shrieking pain along his right side as he defied normal movement to swing his hind in a side kick towards her flank. "Get, off me. NOW!" Still arching through the air he estimated the distance between the ground and the pair before taking yet a calculated risk.
Ayegali! He pleaded mentally, bracing himself as he 'swooped' over to the side once more.
His wing gave a sickening crunch as some bone snapped and yet, it made it flimsy enough to move just enough - without even the slightest hesitation he landed a very swift smash to the side and then braced himself for the last of the fall.
There would be no swooping, no gentle landings now.
As the pair descended to the tune of clouds of coloured feathers he knew this was going to be a very, very painful bump.

The sound of his cry fueled her lust and desire to tear at his wings further. Her green eyes met his gaze and she spit a mouthful of feathers she had torn from his wings into his face, in a way mocking his pride. She had expected him to retaliate and so she took his blows while dealing blows of her own, aiming for any soft or vulnerable spot she could reach. Her raking teeth aimed at his wing once more, determined to rip out many more mouthful of feathers and tear the very flesh of the wing itself.
She knew now there was a chance these could be her last moments and she was damned if she would not go out fighting and have some pride in the damage she could inflict on him before they crashed into the ground.
And then there it was again..the quick, unexpected movements he could perform in mid air. They somersaulted and he screamed at her to get off...but she refused to let go if at all possible and clamped her teeth in for a deeper hold. "Never!" She managed to scream out, muffled through the feathers and flesh. His blow landed and her eyes widened in more pain, her teeth clenching in reaction to the surprise blow.
She released her death grip on his wing with her teeth, as it crunched and bone snapped beneath her, but still held on enough to keep from letting him go entirely. He would not escape her that easily. She intended to let her wight fully crash upon him when they hit the ground. She gave a sickening grin and laughed menacingly at him. She had indeed lost it but the damage she had intended was done and she was full of glee at the thought. The earth came swiftly now, bu she was ready for it and she knew it would hurt, ALOT. Feathers of many colors of the rainbow fell and floated all around them.
Closing her eyes now, she prepared for the impact and the pain to follow. She had not won but she had not entirely lost either. Death would be her release perhaps from this world.

Unlikely.
Grencia may have been a glorified assassin to some but to himself he was a knight. He was a protector of his kind and even now as the rage subsided and he gave into weariness...Those core values still remained within him. As she retaliated, threw out her response to his orders he made a decision that not even he could quite comprehend.
It was better for her to live. Death was too good for her.
Releasing a strained breath, the phoenix stallion unfurled his single working wing and tested. The affect was nearly immediate as the wind billow against it (despite the loss of feathers) and he jolted slightly. Apparently, given his speed there was just enough of an 'ommph' to serve his desires - and it was worth a shot.
"I wonder -" He murmured at last, his voice softer as he continued to remain so very close, "What you will do when you open your eyes again." He finished, releasing a small laugh. It was one of bitterness but it was one to cloud his pain for a time and now fully satisfied by the power beneath his single wing he took his chance.
Unfurling it in its entirety, he allowed the remaining feathers to capture the wind and thrust him to the left. With little to no control, he was swung across and once again collided with the mare though this time in a rather uncontrolled fashion. Regardless, it was enough to to jolt her and to move her position in the air - just enough so that she may crash into the tree canopies and to the cushioned shrubbery below.
"Well you still see the world in single shades of black and white, demon?" He finished, furling his wing once more to avoid more shattered bones as he plunged into the canopy below.
...It was a good thing he had such discipline - the stream of expletives that could have been released from his mouth at that precise moment in time could have been tremendous.
But the fact still remained...the top branches of the trees were soft, they crumbled beneath his weight and yet the thicker ones bent, enveloped and decreased his speed significantly as he tumbled roughly to the canopy floor.
Fine, he would come out with a ridiculous amount of injuries (excluding eye, backside and wing) but he would not be dying just yet.

His words surprised her. If the fall did not kill them both, would he not have killed her then, when she was at her weakest moment? "I would taste your blood if given the chance." She snarled bitterly at him. She watched as his wings came out, curious and wondering just what it was he was going to attempt to do. His laugh unnerved her.
And then it came.
His final attack perhaps? She let out a howl of pain as he slammed into her body once more, her lips curling up to reveal her glimmering white teeth again. But she was unable to retaliate to his attack, for his body slam had swung her away from him and into the path of trees and shrubbery below.
Panic came over her as she lost her cushioned body to use for the crash. She was angry she would not be able to slam her body into his as they struck the land. He was just out of her reach now, but she could still hear him, he ws still close enough for that. "Shades" she screamed. "It is very simple. The strong live and the weak die. That is the law of the land, of the wild..."
The mare flailed as she fell into the trees, losing sight of him now but she knew he was close. She could hear his body crashing in the branches. The trees decreased her own speed as her descent was close to an end. Branches broke beneath her, and some she missed entirely, being alot smaller then the stallion.
And still she met the ground with a hard thud, her body nearly broken. But she did not escape unscathed. she had scratches and gashes all over her entire body, larger branches had torn her thin black wings. Her legs were twisted, and one has a large gash from a branch that had gone through the knee.
But lastly she had not been so lucky. Her head struck a large stump, where a tree should have been ages ago. This knocked her unconscious immediately, leaving a large gash to the back of her head as she lay quiet and still. Alive, breathing, but now unconsciously battling for her life, her will fighting to live as her body tried to give up and succumb to its injuries. Here, a secret , unknown battle was taking place and she had no idea what she was in store for next......

"You are wrong..." A weak voice drifted out from the shadows nearby as the struggling wind came into view, well aware of her unconscious form. Nevertheless, the elders had always said that they had a way to hear people even in sleep. "There is no truly weak being, with the exception of those who fail to recognise the strength in others." He continued, drawing in a shaky breath as he at last turned to glance at the warped wing.
It was enough to make his stomach churn...and his head was already light enough.
"Where others have weaknesses, there are those that will always cover them with strengths of their own. Strength comes from within." He shook his head sadly (causing a throb to move through it). "They are not of brute force, some of the strongest are those that just care." He finished and with that gave a gasp.
He had no intention of staying nearby, no intention of remaining where she may wake up. No, he wished to go home, he wished to sleep for an eternity of he could. Taking one final look at the unconscious mare, he at last began to stumble his way through the forest - his wing making a peculiar 'swish' as it dragged a long at his side.
However he was to find that he would not be alone in his suffering, for as he began to move up the slope that would lead the mountains he was greeted by the eyes of one so very familiar.
I am here. She mouthed and approached, the delicate yet knowing hands caressing the wounds along his face.
He would always stand by what he had said long ago to another mare - they rarely lived together but his human knew when he needed her and she always came to his side.
