I don't see why lupin couldn't be more popular soon. People like it when several types of charecters are combined in one world. Like how kingdom hearts has all (or most) of the disney charecters, lupin has most of the "cool" charecter genres in his show. There's a wise sameri, an ace marksman, a theif that can steal anything, a pretty (and smarter than she looks) girl, and a clueless cop.

Well, not clueless...
Anyway, I can see why it would be popular, but people don't give it a chance cause
1. It's old. Unless they grew up with it, people won't give old stuff a chance
2. It's anime. Anime fans don't want to give it a chance because it doesn't have the modern look. Others only know of drama-ey anime or won't give it a chance because it would be too embarassing.

Also, it just doesn't get publicized well, but we all knew that.

i think that lupin the 3rd is a perfect mascott for gangster generation because he focus about what he wants to accomplish and goes do it.

That can apply to almost anyone, not just Lupin. I never thought of Lupin as the 'gangsta' type as he likes to do things with more finesse (though he does fail at being graceful.) The true face of this 'gangsta' generation is not a pretty one, and Lupin focuses more on doing his thing by tricks and stealth...rather than a drive-by shooting.

sry to say but in my opinion Lupin the 3rd was made to be in the old school mainstream

What did what you just said even mean? That it was created to be old? That doesn't even make sense.

And for you naysayers, Lupin III is popular with the hip hop crowd in Japan. I found a Japanese rap video that sampled the Lupin theme and featured Lupin characters on youtube. (I think the artist's name was SEAMO.)

That's true, there's no lack of characters that focus on what they want and accomplish it, that's a vague characteristic. Lupin also is a "gentleman" thief, crude as he can be.
Plus, I don't think a TV show or comic should be lumped in with a "crowd", it's best if everyone enjoys it.
