First of all, resorting to evil methods doesn't make a person weak-minded. If someone close to you was killed, would you not try to avenge their death? Revenge is seen by many people as evil, but seen by many others (most of which have a good enough reason to seek revenge) consider it to be justified. I do consider it to be justified, and I do think that there are many people deserving of what Hisoka got (not Hisoka, more like one of the people who did something similar to what Muraki did to him). Hisoka didn't turn evil, he just got depressed, which goes back to the whole emotions debate. Some feel sadness easier than others, and some feel anger easier (anger in my case), which is a big factor in deciding where they want to go with their lives after the event occurs (or afterlife, in Hisoka's case). Some people get depressed about it and don't do anything about it except wallow in their own sadness (but I think Hisoka would support my revenge theory xd ), and others choose to take matters into their own hands. Many evil people think that, for whatever reasons they may have, they were treated unfairly in the past, and make it a goal to take back their lives, or to become so powerful and block out all emotions to prevent anything from hurting them again, both mental/emotional and physical.

On the subject of examples, it's true that Hisoka isn't amazingly intelligent, just a normal intelligent, and he is more the type to get depressed than angry. Naruto... is not a very good example, I agree. One, he is not very smart, and two, his past is nothing compared to Hisoka's. Sure he's an outcast, but so are a lot of people in modern day society. I tend to sympathize more with those who were physically hurt, or mentally/emotionally hurt worse than he was (Naruto, not Hisoka - he deserves some sympathy). Just look at Gaara's reasoning for killing, a good one in my opinion. No one up until Naruto showed him any reason to care for them, so why should he? We can even assume that Voldemort had similar reasoning, seeing as he grew up in an orphanage fifty years ago in England, and we all know how cruel they can be. Quite simply, if no one cared for them, then they have reason not to care back.

It's helpful when two people have such similar opinions, isn't it? 3nodding

((Gasp, it seems as if the emoticon has provided the answer to my question.))

I like characters that actually develop, or otherwise show facets of their personality beyond "I am big, I am bad, and I shall crush your head." This is why I couldn't get into Harry Potter. I'm sorry to all y'all that love them, but I personally couldn't get beyond the flat "personalities" on JK's pages. The characters just bore me. Voldemort? Sorry. He's cool as Hell, and evil to boot, but I didn't see a whole lot there. I relate to change and depth, not "Moohaahaa I KEEL U!"

I like Tobias Beecher from Oz. He starts off as a meek lawyer from litigation who was sent to prison for DUI and vehicular manslaughter [ran over a little girl] and instantly became a "b***h," or "prag" as people in Oz call them. His character began to develop as his misery grew, self-pity, all that stuff. Sometimes you just wanted to kick his head in, and other times you really cared. At any rate, he changes a great deal through the series, [going insane and throwing a chair at the guy who made him his "b***h," taking a dump on said guy's face, biting the tip off a man's p***s, killing a guard, organizing a hit on his former "owner's" son, and so on and so forth] but still maintains a bit of integrity almost as a self-preservation mechanism. [There's also the whole "falling in love with another man" thing, but I can't be here forever.]

So I don't really connect to a character "type," because I've found characters in all groups that appeal to me and also drive me insane. Some protagonists I like, and some I wish would get cancer. Some villains are completely awesome, and yet some just make me want to sue the writers for such terrible characterization. I think that finding affinity with a certain group is a little pointless, as that's claiming that all individuals in said group are so similar that you'd undeniably like every single one.

Although I will say that Magneto is freaking amazing at life.

i still dont get why you like the EVIL ones though... having gone through what they did, resorting to evil shoes that theyre truly weak-minded, intelligent or not. which is why i prefer the intelligent characters who are cute with angsty pasts that DIDNT turn evil the absolute best. i'm using Hisoka as an example here cuz hes the best i can think of at the moment... intelligent, has a psychic ability (empathy), lived a HORRIBLE life, died a death that not even the most depraved psycho deserves, and was still even at the end all alone. yet he held on, he was strong. and then came tsuzuki. i was gonna use naruto as another example, but hes not intelligent.... so forget that XD and yeah, its 5:30 AM so i cant really think of much else right now.

Evil is only controlled by morals. If there were no morals, there would be no good-and-evil.

They are certainly not weak-minded, the weak-minded ones are the ones who blame god or the devil for their faults or triumphs. They are the ones who can't accept that someone else or themselves did something for once.
