“Honey what’s all the commo-’ She stopped in her tracks, stunned. The girl sat on the wooden floor, blinking and rubbing her head as the old bell alarm clock rang and rang on a nightstand in the corner. This wouldn’t have been too odd, if it weren’t for the fact that there had been a bed there. It was nowhere to be seen. She clicked on the light, but nothing changed. The girl blinked at her. “…ouch?” She said in question, and Ellen remembered her manners. “Dear…what…what happened here?” she asked, still a bit stunned. That bed couldn’t have fit through the door, and even if it could have…the girl was too small to pick it up and move it. “Loud…” She said, gaze shifting to the clock. “But the bed dear…where did it go?” Ellen asked, and the girl just watched her. “I…know not.” She then stood up slowly, head tilted.

Ellen sighed, ushering her out of the room and into the foyer again. “Well…that’s alright…just have a seat here.” She gestured to the couch, but the girl seemed reluctant to go near the empty fireplace. Finally, she moved towards it slowly, watching the fireplace with trepidation. Once she was settled down on the couch, Ellen waited for her to lie down, gently putting a blanket over her. “Where…is Tomo?” She asked sleepily, and Ellen paused. “Where is who?” “I cannot remember where…he is…” She said, curling up on the cushions, eyes drifting closed. Ellen had never heard of a Tomo, but perhaps it was someone in her family. “They must be missing you dear…” She said softly, thinking her asleep. “Why…would any…one…do that?” Came the slow response, then a murmured word in a different language, and then nothing but silence. The girl was asleep. Ellen wondered why she thought no one would miss her. She mused for a few moments more, then headed back to bed.

Gene opened his eyes, blinking a few times as he sat up. His wife was already awake, as always, and sat looking out the window at the softly falling rain. “Ellen?” He said gently, as he had every morning for the past thirty seven years. “I’m here honey.” He climbed out of bed, his light blue pajamas so old that holes had been worn into the cloth at his shoulder blades, the stripes on his pants faded and barely visible. He didn’t bother to dress yet, going over to his wife and taking her hand. “Do you need anything done today dear?” He asked her, watching the rain as well, frowning slightly. Where had this weather sprung up from? “No…but our guest might. Have you ever heard of a person named Tomo?”

Gene thought this over. “There’s…a boy called Tomokazu. I believe he runs that damn inn. Why would you want to know about that place?” Gene was an old fashioned fellow who disliked those different from him. He didn’t think they should be hurt or anything, just that they should keep to themselves. And mostly, the weirdo’s at the bar did just that. Though he remembered hearing about the two who had broken into the jail, and he had been in town when the man with a raccoon tail had to fight with some angry townspeople, the odd cloaked guy helping him out. But mostly, they kept away from town.

“She mentioned the name…” Ellen spoke softly, and Gene’s eyes widened in surprise. “You…you think she’s from there then?” Ellen shrugged. “I don’t know. I don’t think she does either.” Gene let go of Ellen’s hand, staring out into the rain. “Then we can’t say anything to remind her of it.” He said distantly, and he saw his wife give him a surprised look. “…Gene…” He knew she’d do as he said anyway, though he knew she wouldn’t like it. Truth was, neither did he. But clearly the inn people didn’t care about her, or she wouldn’t have nearly drowned and he would not have been the one who found her. Ellen knew his way of thinking, and her next statement proved so. “They probably don’t know anything’s wrong Gene. She’s a full grown woman, not a child…” Gene had already made his decision, he didn’t have to have reason for it. “I’ve already decided Ellen.” He said stiffly, and her sigh reminded him how wrong it was, to hide the girl’s ‘friends’ from her. Well, he wouldn’t send the girl back to be corrupted again by those people. Not on his watch.

Trina opened her eyes, groggily blinking at the couch’s back. She sat up, studied her hands. The gloves…they were gone. She blinked. Wait. They had already been gone right? She struggled to remember. Yes, she had escaped…but that had been a few…years? Was that right? Trina had never been good with time.

She sat up, frowning down at the odd thing on her body. What was this? Seemed more like something Baizou would wear. Wait…who was Baizou? Trina took the thing off, pressing her palm flat on her stomach. The next second, she was dressed in her regular armor again, her other hand producing a cloak. She fastened the familiar garment, pulling on the old worn boots next. She remembered these things at least.

Trina slid off the couch to sit on the floor, rubbing her closed eyes. Think Trina…where are you? She recalled the events of the night before, and nodded to herself. Yes, she had been brought here by an older man. Gene. Gene and Ellen lived here. I had been…at a lake. So…I must have reverted, and now am in control again. But…how long has it been? Where was I before then? Trina hated this, the blankness that was her memory.

She vaguely recalled living somewhere else, but where? Had she once again slept away a hundred years? A thousand even? No…this house had the same…machines that she had seen before. So it hadn’t been long. “Maara…” She murmured, the cat girl popping in her head. Yes…she had been caring for this one…hadn’t she? Where was she now? Trina couldn’t remember. With her friends she supposed. …friends? Oh yes…I have friends…don’t I? Tomo…and River…Drakhir and Baizou…Ukaia…Cerri…Jad…Arlen and Lily…Aitrus…Ellie and Li’ad!
PostPosted: Mon Apr 30, 2007 10:32 am

Where were they? When had she known them? Her mind conjured images of them all, from Tomo’s cat ears to Li’ad’s strange colored eyes. Her friends! It all hit Trina in a rush, The Muffin, swimming and flying free for the first time, killing Sachin, contractions in English, Ukaia finding the muffin with her blanket, Tomo ‘tying the knot’, rescuing Maara from drowning, getting lost in town, Drakhir being taken away, Ellie changing, Jad in the hospital, Arian discovering her, meeting Li’ad, getting letters from Sachin’s assistant, getting kidnapped by Arian and her strange son, escaping Terreo again, crash-landing back on Gaia, the letter Arian fooled her with (It had been signed Tomo, telling her to not come back), fighting and killing Arian, coming back to beg Tomo to forgive her, Tomo being pregnant, helping Ritsuko rescue him when he had been kidnapped, fixing Jake’s eyes, becoming friends with River, Lily and Arlen helping her keep Maara safe, seeing Li’ad again, the nightmares, Sachin talking to her in her head, Sachin hurting her in her sleep, the marks on her back, being so tired, afraid to rest, Baizou being small, staring out the window for hours and hours, collapsing from pain in her head before getting control again, and finally, fleeing before she had reverted and wrecked the muffin, Sachin and Arian leaving her mind, but without their abilities. Trina swayed at the sudden rush of so many memories, not sure if she was even allowed to do so many things in just a year.

“Trivla?” Trina’s head snapped up to look at Ellen, who stood in the hallway, looking at her clothes oddly. Trivla? I…haven’t been called that in forever… “Forgive me…but it’s Trina…ma’m?” She supplied the last word hopefully, not sure what title of respect the woman required. Apparently, her words startled Ellen, because she did a double take and had to close her mouth, which had fallen open. Trina offered an apologetic smile. “I take it my English was not very good last night? I’m sorry for that. I remember now.” She gave a nod, but stopped when Ellen covered her mouth with her hand, swaying. Trina stood up, concerned. “Are you…alright?” She asked softly.

“Gene! Gene?” The older woman called, and Trina froze. Had she done something wrong or offensive? She looked down at her bare arms. No…there weren’t any blue marks…Then again, humans were adept at recognizing their own kind, and perhaps Ellen had figured out that Trina was not human. She looked up to see the elderly man shuffle up to his wife, also looking surprised at Trina’s clothing. “Good…morning sir.” Trina said, looking from him to his wife uneasily. “Is…something wrong?” Gene shook his head, shared a glance with his wife, then spoke without looking at Trina. “Yes…dear. There is. You…you are from that inn right?” Trina tilted her head slightly. She supposed she was from there now…better then being from Terreo.

“Yes. The Demented Muffin. I live there.” She said, feeling something was wrong. “Why?” Gene looked uncomfortable, and his rope friend, she assumed they were rope friends, Ellen had used that funny title when referring to Gene, stared at him. “Well…it was attacked.” Trina felt the world move beneath her feet, and sat before she fell. “…My…friends?” She asked distantly, then feeling a very sudden panic. “Where are they? Are they alright?” She asked quickly, wanting to go to them immediately. “…They’re all…gone.” He said slowly, staring at some spot on the floor. “Gone where?” Trina asked, wondering what was so wrong.
PostPosted: Mon Apr 30, 2007 10:42 am

“Trina…honey…they’re dead.” Ellen said softly, after the smallest of glances toward Gene. Trina stared. “Dead?...my friends? Tomo…and even River? They killed River?” She said in numb disbelief and Ellen paused, then nodded. “Yes, even River.” Trina couldn’t speak. A horrible aching feeling was in her chest, the worst she had ever felt. River was dead? Then…what hope was there for any of them? If even River had been…had been…killed…then no one could have survived. Trina felt sick. “Maara? They…killed…they killed Maara? Maara? No…please no…” Trina murmured, completely grief stricken. They had killed the little cat girl. Her little cat girl. They had murdered Trina’s charge. Sachin…Sachin had been right. The rain came down in tortured sheets, and Trina did nothing to slow it. Trina did not get angry at the murderers, whoever they were. There was no reason to. It wouldn’t bring her friends back. It wouldn’t bring her little fluff ball back. Why hadn’t I been there?! Why? Maara…I’m so sorry…I wasn’t there to protect you…to protect any of you. Trina wanted to die. Her friends were gone. There was no reason to remain here...but...what if-?

Ellen watched the girl, feeling horrible. Gene’s arm tightened around her shoulders. He really believed this was best. But the obvious sorrow in the girl’s features was flaying her tender heart to ribbons. Gene cleared his throat, but the girl did not look up. “I…wish to die now…you must…let me kill myself.” She said softly, and Ellen felt a spark of fear run up her spine. “Trina no! You can’t do that!” She nearly confessed the lie, but Gene spoke. “You will not do that. You will live here. You never belonged with them anyway.” Trina looked up at him, silently surveying him. “I never belonged anywhere. But I was happy there…and now…” She said nothing more, but Ellen could see the awful sorrow in her eyes. Gene spoke gruffly, but Ellen knew he felt guilty as well. “Are you causing this rain?” A nod from the girl. “Make it stop. I don’t want a whole flood.” He tried to turn and head back to the bedroom, but the girl spoke again, and he stopped, back to them both.
