Jack brushed his mouth off on his sleep, spitting a bloody tooth out on the asphalt. Somewhere in the mess he'd gotten kicked in the face, oh well, it'd grow back. "Why d'you care?" he snapped, spitting out another mouthful of blood, "You ain't bleedin." From the looks of the toddler the broken tooth wasn't the only injury he had sustained. A shiny red mark over his eye was sure to develop into a black eye, and he was sporting more than a few cuts. He shook out his torn up black tshirt, attempting to free the few shards of a glass beer bottle that had clung to the fabric. "Sides, got us outta trouble didn't it?" He added, still looking down at his shirt.

Maelon couldn't help but grimace when Jack spat a tooth out. Despite his rather tough outward appearance, the dark chocolate Sin was better fighting verbal battles than physical ones. Sure he would willingly put holes in his face and his ears to make a statement, but he wasn't willing to go so far as to brawl about it. He intended to keep all of his teeth, thank you very much. The preteen gave the squirt a once over, before deciding that the kid had definitely got the short end of the stick. Still, he couldn't argue with the boy's logic. Instead of giving a verbal response Maelon snorted, reaching out to pull the shards loose for Jack. "Can't argue with that, but now how're we gonna get out? They won't let us past the fire trucks without a fight."

Jack shrugged, cracking a bit of a smile when the other helped him to free the shards. He glanced over his shoulder at the line of flashing lights and the groups of people being questioned, not really giving much credit to any of them. "I dunno about you but I ain't stayin to talk to 'em." He snorted, reaching into his pocket for a grubby handkerchief to wipe the blood from his face. His plan was to get through a break in the crowd, then run for it. With how dark it was and how small he was, he thought he had a pretty good chance. And if not he'd be in no more trouble than he was now. "You gonna stay here or you gonna come with me?" He questioned, looking skepticality at the shaky kid hanging around by the other.

The small smile was reassuring. Apparently, they had reached some kind of truce. Good. Maelon wasn't going to hold a grudge against this kid, especially if he would help him get Bae out of this situation. Sure the squirt had stepped on his toe, but that was pretty minor considering the insults that had gone between him and Akilah. He wouldn't mind working with him, even if it was under the guise that he was helping Bae get out safely. Yes, that would do. He had an image to upkeep. Maelon gave a soft chuckle at Jack's response, before nodding slowly. "Count me in. Need to get him home before he passes out or something. Don't feel like carrying him back. His mum wouldn't be too impressed." With a quick glance around, Mae spotted a small opening between a fire truck and a police car. The crowd seemed to be fairly dispersed over there, which would make it easier to slip out unnoticed. Turning to his new ally, Maelon nodded into that direction. "There look good?"

Jack squinted, trying to focus the image that Mae had indicated to. When the image cleared through the lights he yanked his hat off his head, starting to dig through the compartment that had been torn into it while he was still a baby. "Looks good," he agreed, "Need a distraction." He dug for a short time longer, tossing out twisted bottlecaps and shards from cheap plastic toys. Suddenly he stopped, cracking a wide strange smile as he withdrew a half-dollar coin sized package wrapped in white wax paper, "Got it." He yanked a few red hairs out of his head, tucking them snugly inside the package with just the tips sticking out. Replacing his hat on his head, he then rummaged through his pockets, soon finding an old twisted up match. In response to the pitiful condition of the thing, he said, "Prolly gonna light, if it doesn't I got more." Without waiting for any sort of warning he struck the match on the concert, glad when it lit on the first try. "We gonna run when it goes off, ok?" he instructed, as if Mae was just there for the ride. But, with some faint sort of compassion he waited instead of just lighting it up.

Maelon cocked an eyebrow when Jack started fishing through his had, though the dark chocolate Sin decided not to comment. Whatever he was doing was his own business, so long as the preteen didn't get a fist wrapped in steel wool in his face again. Instead of waiting for Jack, Mae turned his attention to his companion. A quick pull on his ear got Bae's attention, and the Sin'aeis boy quietly explained the plan to him. Bae apparently could care less about how they were getting out so long as they did get out. The boy had had quite enough of concerts for today.

When Jack said he was looking for a distraction, Mae could only nod, not exactly sure what the boy was planning though sure it was something potentially harmful. At least his ill intentions were not directed towards the dark chocolate boy. The sight of the match made Maelon a little unsure, but he figured that they were already too deep into the trouble it wouldn't matter what they did anymore. With a nod, he said, "Ready when you are," and reached out to grab Bae tightly on the forearm. "Here goes nothing."

As soon as Mae responded Jack lit the makeshift fuse. Hair, unlike twine or wax wicks, burned quickly. "Cover your ears," he warned, more to the wimpy looking kid than his newfound ally. Swinging his arm back quickly he pitched the bundle off to the left side of their planned escape, landing it squarely on a discarded space blanket from the ambulances. "s**t," he commented, bracing for the boom. In just a few seconds a crackling explosion drew the attention to everyone in the area, and soon the blanket and a few drips of oil on the surrounding asphalt were ablaze. "Run!" he shouted, taking off at full blast after the few people that had also decided to scatter, not planning to stop until he'd at least reached the lone street light two blocks down.

Oh god this was going to be bad. He was trusting a kid with a match and what appeared to be a makeshift bomb to get them out of trouble. What the hell was he smoking? This was for Bae's sake and only Bae's sake, he reminded himself, as he watched Jack put the match to the makeshift wicks. If Bae ever asked him to attend another concert the kid was so dead. Mae could only watch as the package was tossed, cringing inwardly at where it landed. Oops. Oh well. Mae took a deep breath and then launched into motion at the boom, not needing Jack to tell him twice. All but dragging his friend behind him, Maelon made a break for the space between the two cars, sliding awkwardly between them.

He didn't stop running until Bae resisted his tug. The boy's chest was heaving, apparently in worse shape than his Sin'aeis counterpart. Sighing inwardly, Maelon slowed to a halt to allow Bae to catch his breath. He blew his bangs from his eyes, before glancing around in search of Jack. Where had the kid gone?

Jack, having decided that Mae would make his evening interesting, more so than it was already at least, had stopped short of his target, turning to dart into an alley. "C'mon," he shouted into the dark, "There's a back street this way." Duncan had probably already gone him without him, he usually did, so he wasn't concerned with being home on time. The "back street" was actually an old subway tunnel that had stopped being used almost five years ago. And it also happened to be a fun way to get around.

Maelon looked up when Jack called his name, and turned to follow the sound of his voice. A back street? Well, that did sound like a good way to get home. Once the firemen had managed to extinguish the flames from whatever Jack had thrown the police would surely start looking for the perpetrator. Mae wanted to be as far away from the scene of the crime as possible. He could only hope that the security guard hadn't got a good look at his face when they'd met in the mosh pit. He didn't want to be listed as a suspect.

With a tug on Bae's shirt sleeve, Maelon set off after Jack down this "back street." Judging by the silence, there didn't appear to be anyone else down here save for animals and a few spiders. The dark chocolate Sin'aeis could barely hear their whispers, so he assumed they were rather small. After a few minutes of walking Maelon sauntered up beside Jack, watching the boy out of the corner of his eye. "So... I don't believe I caught your name."

"Jack, like jackass," he responsded, periodically tapping his foot against the side of the track. They'd reach a station soon, if he remembered right, and some of the lights there still worked. It'd be an ok place to hang out and wait for the heat to die down at least. And there was probably still something to eat there from his last visit. Good thing too, he was starving. "You?"

Maelon couldn't help but snort softly at the way Jack introduced himself. Like jackass huh? And the kid had gotten upset when he'd called him shorty. Jeeze. The kid really had skewed ideas on what was an insult. But no mind. It would help him remember the kid's name anyways. "Maelon, though Mae will do. Nothing I can think of to help you remember that though." The dark chocolate Sin'aeis figured that Bae didn't need introducing. His companion was already getting a little clingy as they walked in the dark. Right, he needed to get the kid home soon before the concert "fire" made it onto the news. Bae's mum would kill him if he didn't bring Bae home safely.

"Where does this 'back alley' end anyways? Not in the middle of nowhere, I hope?"
PostPosted: Mon Mar 19, 2007 8:53 pm

"Prolly not," Jack chimed, not being very reassuring, "Never walked all the way to the end." When his foot tapped a lower wall than before, Jack turned away from the pair, climbing up to scale his hand along a different wall. As he flipped a switch a row of flickering flourescent lights came on, lighting up the scene of a dingy white tiled subway station. "Thas' where I left it," Jack remarked, wandering over to tear a piece off of a section of cut beef sitting on parchment paper on the ground. "We're below the deli if that helps," he added as he munched on the meat, not knowing much about direction himself.

Maelon couldn't help but make a face at Jack's answer. Probably not? Well that was reassuring. For all he knew there would be no exit to this place and they'd get lost. He was unable to think about it for very long, however, since Jack had already moved in another direction. The dark chocolate Sin'aeis paused, causing Bae to bump into him with a squeak. Maelon ignored his friend in favour of watching Jack. What exactly was the kid looking for? His question was answered moments later when the boy's finger hit the switch and the subway station was illuminated in a rather bright light. Mae squinted instinctually, putting a hand up to shield his eyes. So this was where he had been taking them. Looked kind of like a subway station. Huh.

"Deli shop... hmmm..." Maelon mumbled, more to himself than to Jack. The Deli shop was next to the library, which was only about a twenty minute skateboard ride to his home. Not a bad location. "Any way to get out of here other than to go back?"
