I don't really have any strong hatred for any Phantom pairing (although I didn't like Christine in the 2004 movie). I don't know what people have against Erik/Original Character pairings, other then they tend to be poorly written, but then again, a lot of phanfics are poorly written. I find Erik/Raoul and Erik/Persain quite funny for some reason, though I'm not "into slash" if you know what I mean. Erik/Meg seems a bit strange, but it's an intersesting combination, not at all impossible. Of course, I'm not an Erik/Christine stickler either, because while I don't hate her, some interpretations of Christine make her out to be ditzy and uber femm, which can get on my nerves. Erik can do better that.

maybe i'm a purist but i am parcial to the E/C relationship but thats just me...
the things that interest me would be a partnering between characters like what would happen if Erik met Jack Sparrow or Erik med another unfortunate like himself say Edward Scissorhands. its kind of an interesting thought

No clue why I am writing in this thread really; I mean it seems to have died a while ago, but still I'd like to speak my piece. I am a phan fiction writer, and I am currently in the process of writing an Erik/Other Woman story.
Now, there was another version I wrote that was terrible and looking back on it now I don't know where such utter crap came from. Anyway, Other Woman pairings can work...only in mine they don't work; as in it never fully happens relationship wise. In my opinion that's the only way you can pull those types of stories off. As long as the readers understand that there may very well be a strong connection between Erik and (*insert other woman's name here...*)
Sadly though; and no matter how much I wish to deny this there really isn't any other pairing other than Erik/Christine.

If I may say my bit, Erik/Christine is not an actual canon pairing. The only canon pairing is Raoul/Christine. Deal. (And I'm not saying that to be mean, I'm saying it because it's true. The entire point of the story is that Erik's love for Christine is unrequited.)
That said... Erik/Meg is alright if you're going by musical or movie verse, though I can't think of a reason why Erik would actually like Meg. She doesn't seem his type, but it still works better than E/C.
Erik/OW is the best option, but it's so easy to screw up. The vast majority of E/OW phics are crap Mary Sues because, A) The author tries to make the OW perfect. I understand the impluse, Erik deserves someone perfect, but no one wants to read about perfect, beautiful, angelic Marie-Suzette, who is better than that whorebitch Christine in every way. B) The author tries to give her an angsty past so that she can understand Erik's pain. Trauma and angst are very difficult to write well. If the author treats it too lightly, or goes overboard with it, angst becomes waaangst. C) If post-Christine, the author has Erik rebound too quickly. Important one here. Erik would not immediately pick a new ingenue. Christine was the love of his life and he was heartbroken when she couldn't love him back. He has to have time to get over it, and a substantial period to warm up to the OW before actually falling in love with her. However, if an author can nail these things, E/OW can be pretty fun to read.
Erik/Raoul I actually don't have much of a problem with. I could completely see Erik as being bisexual, and in that case Raoul is essentially a male form of Christine. If you look hard enough, you can see vague evidence of Erik/Nadir in the SK book. But when it comes to POTO slash my OTP is Erik/Comte Philippe. Think about it... it works!

Yes I do understand, but I maybe I didn't make my last point clear enough. I meant that no matter how great another woman character might be Erik is still going to love Christine...end of story, done deal, period. That's what I meant.
It is very hard to write a story that involves another woman...one: everyone is critizing, (Which isn't a bad thing as long as it isn't flaming.) and two: I really do actually have to check whether or not I am going overboard on the angst.

Now normally, I am for the canon pairing and E/C, but I always find myself drawn to Erik/Raoul pairings.
Now there was a fic I particularly enjoyed, but Christine was quite a b***h in that one, and had become so confused she just ran from the lair, leaving Raoul to die.
Which he nearly did, for about four days(?), until Erik cut him down and left him to figure out if he wanted to live or not. It goes on from there, I found it rather cute.
Just my opinion, no offense meant to anyone, please no totally going off on me?

I read that same phic. It's what sold me on the idea of Erik/Raoul being vaguely possible. (Though I still prefer Erik/Comte Philippe since they have more in common, and Raoul deserves to be happy with Christine.)
And Morikochan, don't worry, that wasn't directed specifically at you. Rather, at the board as a whole. *pointed stare at some* I haven't read your phic, so I have no idea whether you're managing or not. *shrugs*
