However, Zaphiro was still too happy to really worry much about Hienna's patent dislike of his antics. After all, what was wrong with wanting to cuddle with one's mate?
"Maybe I just want some help warming up, ever think of that? After all, I helped you when YOU were cold." Chuckling, he sauntered off after her, flicking off remaining droplets of water off of his mane and tail with each step.

She turned her head to look at him pointedly, "YOU were the one that made me wet though - and caused my rear to be punctured by a stick. You did that to yourself."
Hie snorted lightly and peeked into the cave. As she hoped, it was unoccupied except for a few little insects scuttling past which were easily dispelled. At least it did a little bit to lighten her sudden irked mood.
"It's empty!"

"Sure, retrospective blame me yet again. I SAID I was sorry about that." For some reason, Zaph was tempted to stick his tongue out at Hienna, hust for emphasis, but figured that was probably pushing it. Instead, he simply stopped where he was, a few feet back from Hienna and the cave, and gave her a querying look. "Really? As in, TOTALLY empty?"
That seemed almost too good to be true!

She turned her head to look at him, "Well, there's some insects..." Suddenly cheery again, "I don't think there's anything else in here but there's no way I'm checking and getting my nose bitten off!"
Hie trotted out of the cave again and nosed him, "You check? I promise I'll kiss your nose and make it better if something bites you."

One eyebrow quirked in a delicate gesture at Hienna's about face, then Zaphiro gave her an amused look. "Sure, you go getting huffy and denying me a chance to get warm, then expect me to go and risk life and nose so YOU can benefit? When dd you become such a selfish mare, Hie?"
Still, he was obviously teasing as he returned the nosing, nuzzling at her warm cheek with his slightly colder one. "I think you owe me, not the other way round!"

Hienna closed her eyes and returned the nuzzle affectionately, "You punctured my rear with a stick. The least you can do is look in our new home, hmmm? I'll make it worth your while, I promise!"
Hie pulled away and fluttered her eyes at him charmingly and flicked her tail. After all, if she couldn't get him to look in the cave for her she'd have to do it herself. And creepy crawlies were never her strong point.

"Once again you're skewing the facts. I swear, we're going to have to sit down one of these days and go over that story IN DETAIL so that you get over this delusion of innocence you have. And all I have to say is, you're lucky I like you."
Still, Zaphiro was smiling as he strolled forward into the cave. For a few moments he stood, simply letting his eyes adjust to the dark, then he was walking in with a purposeful stride. Best way to determine occupancy was to have a good look around, after all, though from the SMELL at least it was empty...and had been for a while.

"Delusion of innocence? Please. I'm completely innocent! And you're lucky I like you." Hienna grinned and watched him enter the cave, entering slowly behind him and letting her eyes adjust again.
There wasn't much in the cave - nothing that couldn't be cleaned out anyway.
"Do you see anything that'll eat us?"

"That'll eat us?" The surrounding rock walls created a somewhat eerie echo effect, likely due to the fact that it was completely empty in there. Something would have to be added, like a nice grassy flooring, to do something about the echoing...and to make it more comfortable. He'd never been one for rock as a sleeping surface.
Glancing back at the faint glimmer that was his mate, Zaphiro shook his head. Nope. Looks pretty clear to me, honestly...and quite snug. What do YOU think, though?" After all, she was more into the cave thing than he was!

There was definitely a lot of work that had to be done to it but it did seem to be a perfect start. The mare let out a smile even though Zaphiro would likely have a hard time seeing it.
"I like it. Needs some bedding and homey touches, but I really like it." Hienna laughed softly and turned around, trotting out of the cave and flopping on the ground outside. "And the ground outside is nice to lay on too."

With one less glance around the cave, Zaphiro turned and followed Hienna back out into the bright sunshine, chuckling as Hie flopped down into the grassy wildflower patch. He himself wasn't quite done poking around, so he merely gave her an agreeing smile.
"Indeed; just about any place in this little area looks pleasant enough to sleep in. We could probably bring in some flowers, maybe track down some heather, a few loads of leaves...it'll be perfect."
Not that it wasn't already perfect, it just needed to be made MORE perfect.
As he spoke, Zaphiro had been meandering towards the weeping trees that grew on one side of the pond, a curious expression on his face. That sort of plant was new to him, so he wanted to check them out a bit.
As he neared the closest one, he gave it a curious sniff, then pushed his way through the surrounding leaves. "Well!"
He was standing in what virtually amounted to an enclosed space, the hanging branches touching the grass and even hanging into the small bit of pond that the willow overhung. Looking upward was seeing the interwoven branches of the willow, and underfoot was turf springy with moss. "I think that I might REALLY like this place!"

Hie was just tired and laying like she did, if Zaphiro took a look, he'd see a bit of extra weight on his mate. However, it wasn't too noticeable so it wasn't likely he'd tell. Unless he was really observant.
"Is it pretty over there?" She was too lazy to get up from her patch of flowers and she simply turned her head to watch him go, a lazy smile on her face. This was absolutely perfect, wasn't it?
"And you better like it. It'll be ours forever."

Finishing his prowl about the willow, Zaphiro thought that, at least until the cave was ready, the tree could likely serve as a shelter in it's own right; after all, it wass both sheltered and roomy, and unlike the cave had a soft floor on which to lie and walk. However, right now it was lacking something; specifically, his mate; so he abandoned the willow and headed out to rejoin Hienna.
Settling down beside her, he automatically moved to rest his head against her side, using her softness as a pillow. "It's lovely, as a matter of fact, and when you stop lazing about you'll have to check it out."
Not that he expected that to be soon; the sun was sinking lower and lower as each new minute passed, and before long it would be full dark. "But I think we have time..."

Hienna grinned as her mate used her as a pillow, "I'll look in the morning. For now, love, I'm quite tired. Moreso than usual, I'm afraid. Are you comfortable?"
It was amazing how right everything felt with Zaphiro after so long of trying to rationalize it all away. Their routine had pretty much settled though things would be changing soon - now that they didn't have to search for a home.

Gently nuzzling at Hienna's side, Zaph gave her an amused look. "Don't I LOOK comfortable? Having such a nice pliable pillow is bound to be good, at least in my opinion. I'm not squishing you or anything though, am I?"
Usually he'd be the one being leaned against, since he was bigger and had his wings to hold her close with. But given the fact he was still rather soggy from the water...he'd decided to forgo the usual and do a bit of snuggling himself for once. That didn't mean he wanted to squish her, though!
