Koorie blinked, then shook her head. "As far as I know, no..... Let me check, would you mind keeping an eye on this little one for me?" She pointed to Pastela, then walked the 25 yards to where Raziel was playing quietly by himself in the sand. Picking him up, she brought him over and inspected his mouth. "No, I don't see any-OW!"

Raziel bit her finger hard, not happy that his mouth was being inspected like that. He let go and looked away, arms crossed and nose wrinkled.

Saffron, finally succeeding in prying Devyn's fangs from his arm, looked up in alarm. "Are you okay? Did he bite you?" His concern kept him from noticing Devyn happily licking 'Daddy's' blood from his tiny fangs. Saffron leaned in, eying the other demon tot for a second. "Does he have fangs afterall?"

Koorie winced, shaking out her bitten finger and setting Raziel down. "No, but I don't think he enjoyed me pulling his lips apart...." She then raised an eyebrow, seeing Devyn licking blood from his fangs. "He's like a vampire...."

"I see..." Saffron nodded. So it was just Devyn? Glancing back at the child in question, the mixed angel narrowed his eyes. "Yes...so I've noticed. Mostly the hard way..."

Sighing, he shook his head tiredly. "You know...I never asked for any of this. I certainly wasn't ready to become a parent." Realizing how that might sound, he hurried to explain. "You see, I sort of found him in the forest. I don't know where he came from, but I couldn't just leave him out there. I'd have found someone else to look after him, but unfortunately, it turns out that I was the only one he'd even allow NEAR him." Torn between looking bemused and tired, he sided with bemused for now.

"Anyway, I don't know what to do with him. He's been biting people more and more lately, and I don't know what to do to stop him. Nothing I've tried so far has worked. I'll have to give that bitter herb idea a try though." Nodding, he turned his attention back to Devyn, making sure that he didn't bite anyone else today.

Koorie nodded in agreement. "I know what that's like. It's obvious they aren't my biological kids, and I don't want to get too attached, because I plan on going back to try to lead my life before this, but at the same time, I couldn't leave these two alone....." She lay back on the sand, keeping a close eye on Raziel as he wandered off to some seaweed.

Pastela on the other hand, crawled right on top of Koorie, giggling and squirming when Koorie lifted her onto her knees, playing with the infant. THe little Pae squirmed more with happyness and excitement.

Saffron couldn't help but smile as he watched Koorie and Pastela. Maybe, if Devyn hadn't been so...err...whatever he was...

He shook his head. Where had that thought come from? He was not getting sucked into this whole 'parenthood' thing. Without quite knowing why, Saffron began speaking again, seeming a bit distant as he did so.

"My mom told me once that she found a couple of kids and raised them long before my sister and I were born. Found them at different times, but they grew up together and she raised them as her own, though she was an Angel, and they were each a Demon and a Fae. It was obvious that they weren't her children, but she raised them as such nonetheless. My father helped of course...I'm not sure she could have handled them on her own from what I hear." He laughed a bit, remembering some of his mother's stories about the demon, Kane. "In fact, one of them sounds a little something like Devyn here...though not so much a vampire as just a wild child."

He paused, watching the children in silence for a while. "I'm...not quite sure what my point was with that story. Maybe I was just talking for the sake of talking. Maybe I was reminiscing. Or maybe...I just realized how common adoptions are here on Telrunya. It seems like there are more people taking care of children that aren't their own than those who are actually building their own families."

He blinked a few times, then shook his head. Looking back at Koorie with a sheepish grin, he rubbed his neck nervously. "I'm sorry...I'm rambling..."

Koorie, still playing with the squealing and giggling Pastela, smiled over to Saffron. "It's fine, I enjoyed hearing about it." She looked back at Pastela and sighed. "To be honost, I would love to stay here and watch these two have families, but I have a feeling I will need to get back to my own life, with my own family, when they're old enough to be on their own."

She then looked over to Saffron again. "Is it normal for a demon Pae, as you called them, to be totally antisocial?" She cast another glance at Raziel, playing by himself in the sand.

"Hmm...I'm no expert on the matter," Saffron mused, his tiny bat-like head wings fluttering and throwing his halo off balance momentarily again. "Of course, I'm a bit of an oddity myself, if I understand correctly."

"You see," he started explaining as much as he knew, "There are three main types of Pae'il. On land at least. I've heard of an aquatic species, but I've never met one personally. There are Angelic, Demonic, and Faery Pae'il. My mother is an Angel and my father is a Demon. I am actually a mix of the two." He gestured to his feathered angelic wings and halo, then his bat-like head wings and barbed tail. Of course, the boy had no idea of the changes taking place on the isle as of late and the new hybrids that were emerging.

"I used to be completely anti-social myself growing up," he admitted with a sheepish grin. "Though, I'm not sure whether I got that from my father and my demonic half, or simply my own personal issues." He waved his hand as if brushing the matter aside. He didn't really want to discuss that right now. "For some reason, though, I doubt it had anything to do with my blood. I believe that alignment has little to do with any individual Pae's personality. Of course, their alignment might have something to do with how they are treated while growing up...or not. Everyone has their own personality and while demonic Pae might be more inclined to be anti-social due to prejudices against them, it doesn't necessarily shape their future. Err...at least, that's what I think," he finished lamely. Why in the world was he talking so much today? And where was all this coming from?

Koorie let out a sigh of pure relief. "Oh thank goodness. I thought maybe something was wrong, since he ignores almost everything. I know I can be a little stand offish, but he just stays away from everything." She let her head fall back onto the sand in a relaxed position, breathing another sigh of relief.

Saffron chuckled. "Just keep at it and give him a little time. I'm sure he'll grow out of some of that." He glanced over at Devyn. "For my sake, I hope that one does too."

"I just hope it's not my fault. I mean, I wasn't even close to being ready to be a parent...but I suppose the Guardians had another idea." He grinned sheepishly again. "I just hope they know what they're doing."

Koorie let out a bitter chuckle. "I wasn't even close to being ready to care for a child. I just turned 18 three months ago, and i had no intention of having children 'till I was thirty."

She looked over at Saffron again. "There's only so much a parent can do in raising a child. We can teach them right and wrong, but we can only teach them a small amount of what they end up following through. You seem like the type who would have done your best to raise him, so I''m sure it's not your fault."

Saffron smiled at Koorie. "Thanks. That makes me feel a lot better...seriously." He reached over and picked Devyn up by the waist to set him in his lap. Devyn snapped at him a bit, but didn't seem to be actually trying to latch on this time. He didn't even bother extending his fangs. It was more a display of displeasure than anything else, though he soon settled down and simply pouted.

Chuckling, Saffron shook his head. Maybe the kid wasn't all bad. Maybe.

"I'm not much better off," he admitted. "I'd just left my parents' house as a teen to try and make it on my own in the world. In fact, I became an adult only a short while before stumbling across Devyn here in the forest. Same day, in fact. I suppose we Pae'il have more...abrupt growth spurts than other races," he laughed.

Koorie gave him a puzzled look. "What do you mean about 'abrupt' growth spurts?" She couldn't help but think that this was going to be one of those little surprises along the way of raising these two that she would encounter.
PostPosted: Thu May 17, 2007 11:07 pm

Saffron laughed, a mysterious twinkle in his eye.

"Well, I'm not sure how it is for most, but my growth spurt from teen to adult was rather...dramatic." After pausing for effect, he continued, "It took a grand total of probably...ten minutes at most. You can ask a Faery Pae'il named Karma if you ever see her. I was taking a walk with her at the time."

Chuckling a bit at the memory, he moved on. "Well, not all growings are like that. Sometimes they might grow in their sleep...or over a period of several days. It's different with each Pae'il and with each growing I guess." He shrugged. "It's all up to the Guardians, I suppose."

Koorie sweatdroped, sitting up this time, cradling Pastela. "Ok, I really don't take kindly to surprises.... What exactly is in store for me?" Her jaw was starting to clench, keeping her a lot calmer than the sudden worry she felt going up in her. These children didn't grow like human children, or any other species she knew of, apparently.
