You are your own god? I think I missed something along the way...

In essence, under this Satanic philosophy, there is none other than yourself whom ought to be worshipped. That is, you place no deity, no god, nothing in front of your own wants and desires.

There's actually several religions that believe that. (Though not any of the mainstream religions, mind you...)

I'm Christian and I believe that. If you want to get anywhere in life, you have to move your a**. God isn't going to do it for you. I make my own desions before praying. I believe as long as I think it over, its good. Of course, I said Christian, not some form of it. I'm not sure on that.

It's good to hear that actually. I know some people who are christians and catholics and they just ultimatly rely on God for everything. I have always known that if you try hard enough and focus enough and never give up then you will reach your goals. God ain't gonna do s**t for ya.

I read on that website about the Church of Satan. Is it wrong to use some of their pincples and mix them with Christianity? I like the one that says go alone, cause that is what I do. I can't stand to hear the priest guy talk. Its so boring.

It's not wrong to apply principals from any religion to your own personal set of beliefs. La Vey's form of Satanism itself borrows heavily from other, non-satanic beliefs. In fact one of the reasons new religious sects and denominations usually arise is due to varying beliefs, and often those beliefs match some principals followed by someone already out there.

The only thing I can say is, if you're devout to your religion, make sure the principle you choose to follow doesn't contradict it.

The beautiful thing about satanism is that you can take it and make it your own. Its all about benefiting the satanist. You can change it up however you want.

The church is so resricting too. I mean honestly, what do we learn sitting there listening to guy? We should be out doing something but thats ungodly. If you move from your seat when the guy is talking, everyone stares. What is so special about the guy that everyone's attition has to be on him? He is human just like the rest of us. He is bound to mess up yet we listen to him, only accepting his views when in therey, no view is right. You can't mess with it or your not a "real Christian".

Yep, there I go, ranting. Gonna stop now.

I'm going to go ahead and put a new topic of discussion out there... Or a question for the Satanists here, if you will.

I don't fully understand the pedestal on which LaVeyan Satanists place Anton LaVey. He taught against both the idea of prophets and organized religion, and yet, LaVey is honoured (albeit not religiously) and the Church of Satan is an organized society.

Yes, LaVey did lay forth alot of ideas that paved the (left-handed) path for bringing Satanism into the mainstream. But his ideas were not original. They were more of a compilation of pre-existing ideas. There have since been other great authors with great Satanic ideas who have not have the marketing power of an organization to back them.

I guess my question is, how DO Satanists actual view LaVey and the Church of Satan?

I'll share my ideas on him later, but you might already guess that they're someone negative. I do respect his work though.

I don't really have an opinion on the church of satan. I don't really plan on being a member or anything but I do know it cost like 100 bucks to be a member and members are the only ones who can participate during a black mass or something. Not really sure. I don't know much about LaVey as a person...it's what he taught that I am interested in. I like his philosophy...nothing else. I have the satanic bible saved in my email as a pdf formated file and I like reading it, I like what he has to say. that's all.

The majority of Satanists are like that, I hear. I'm a history buff and perfectionist myself, so I like learning the subtle little details. 3nodding

I think its a tradition that needs to be stopped. If you ask me, people take the bible too literaly. Some parts are outdated and they still follow them. I'm sorry, but in 2000 years, the world has changed. For instance, most women have to work to get by. 2000 years ago, this was not the case.

Well, they had to work, but it wasn't the kind of work you probably meant in your sentance. Taking something literally has both its strengths and weaknesses. On the one hand, it offers a certainty and security that every human being craves and needs to survive. On the other, to those who don't follow that dogma there are clashes of ideals and cultures. Which is more important? Neither, ultimately; it's a personal thing. It is possible to fall on either side of the spectrum and be tolerant of others beliefs. whee

Man, I think we need to get back on topic. This isn't the how Christianity needs to be changed thread, its about the Church of Satan. Knowing this, I will go back on topic. (This happens way too often with me.)

So I know that there is a Satanists bible out there. Just curious, but whats in it? Does it have instructions or is something like the Christian bible or maybe something intirely different?
