~*Kujaku's Diary*~
A small, leather-bound book lays here against the wood. The dark, indigo-coloured cover is a bit dusty in places, but seems well-used and cared for. A thin strip of crimson ribbon peeks out from the bottom, marking the current place the owner recently opened to. Beside it, a small dip pen lays next to a glass inkpot, a few spattered drops staining the wood beneath it.
As you open the diary, a smooth, copperplate script comes into view, listing a single name. Kujaku. However, it becomes apparent that the hand that held the pen didn't belong to the owner of the diary... but to a guardian who recorded the first steps of the fledgeling's life.

Youkochylde Nervous, that's what I am.
I'd spent a while sitting here in front of a blank page, trying to figure out what to write... what to say that could describe what I'm feeling right now. I'm currently perched at the top of a tree that has to be the largest I've ever seen, with nothing but a note and a prayer.
Let me start from the beginning, shall I?
It's been a few days now since I was chosen as one who would summon one of the fabled Ieldi back to life. They are a species that come from the same world Chronos did, and he's excited as well about this prospect. It's going to take some getting used to, I think, but I'll manage.
In order to give our new Ieldi a place to call their own, we were asked to choose shelves in the tree for them to live on when they arrive. I looked around the main Headquarters, and around the pond in the base of the tree... but nothing felt right.
Not until I looked up, anyway.
This shelf is at the uppermost point of the tree, near the planting ledges. I think it will suit fine, because when I got up here, I got the feeling that this was just... RIGHT. This will be my Ieldi's home.
Now to make it a bit more hospitable. I believe I have shopping to do tomorrow if I want to attract anything more than dust. Perhaps I'll take Yeande with me... she's beginning to feel better, and I'm dying to get her out of the house for a while. I believe she'll be spending just as much time here as I will be in the coming weeks. I just hope the two of them get along well enough... Yeande is very close to my heart, and I can easily see this newcomer growing close as well.

Youkochylde What a lovely surprise today! While I was busy putting up the few decorations I managed to find in the minishops today, Rasu came huffing up to the platform carrying the most beautiful carved tree-stump that I've ever seen! Now, granted... I knew that the Ieldi would be summoned in something like this. But I never expected it to be so beautiful!
Peacock feathers hang from it, dangling towards the shelf it's now resting on. The dark wood is beautiful, and I can't keep myself from running my fingers over it as often as I can. I DO hope the little Ieldi likes the decorations and things I've gotten for him. There's really not a whole lot of room left on this shelf now that the stump is here. I'm VERY glad that I didn't get more!
For now, Yeande seems content to sit on top of the stump with Jigsaw. The two of them are of a size, so they seem to get along well. She's also been helping to take care of the butterflies, since she has two of her own and knows how to deal with them.
I'm hoping they all get along... I suppose we'll find out soon enough, ne?

Quote: Gifts arrived! I've been lax in updating this, but I got a few presents for my Ieldi from people! I'm going to be setting up a gift shelf for them, and hopefully there will be enough room. I'm so happy that everyone here seems so nice towards each other.
Something strange happened last night, however. I woke up feeling as though something was just not quite right... and Yeande was sitting up as well, smiling towards the relic sitting in the middle of the shelf. By the time I moved to look, there was nothing there, but Yeande swears she was watching a glowing light flickering around the relic for a good ten minutes. I hope she was right!
If that's the case, it means that this tree and the relics are doing exactly what Rasu wants them to do... they're attracting spirits! Maybe I'll be able to catch sight of one tonight...

Quote: Well, I didn't see anything last night, but that's because I fell asleep again. This time, I don't even remember sunset. I'm exhausted from trying to clean up a mess that my Sigil caused... I wrote about it in Yeande's journal, and I'm too weary to write it here as well. Yeande's been an angel throughout this, helping me get organized again, and also helping me decorate the shelf.
There's not really much room for anything else up here, but she's decided to 'paint' the shelf and branches around it. I was worried that actual paint would damage the tree, so we went and picked berries that have a dark colour to them, and made a sort of natural 'stain' from it. She's been painting all over the shelf, designs and swirls that are similar to the ones on the relic itself. THey've now extended to the branches surrounding the shelf as well... and Yeande shows no signs of stopping. I think she'd paint the stairs leading up here if I let her. As it is, she's made it about ten steps down. As long as she's having fun, I don't really mind.

Zero Dream ((Please don't kill me >.>;;;; )) "...That's one really, really, really, big tree." She mutters to herself, having circled the whole thing 3 times now, unable to find the last shelf she needed to visit. Blasted sence of orientation. But then she spotted 4 windchimes. Bingo ! She landed, stetching her black feathered wings a bit before folding them against her body, digging in the pocket of her pants to find one last piece of paper, that she put on the ground, pinning a rock on it so it wouldn't fly off in the wind. She then put an object beside the letter. "Well, all done for now. I better start to be able to spot things in that tree." She sweatdrops, and takes flight. The note was written on printer paper, yet it was written by hand, in a ratter messy but still fancy handwriting. This was somewhat surprising, keeping in mind that she rarely wrote anything by hand. The note said... A letter...[color=white] Hey Youko~ I've seen those this morning when I was lurking around in the markets, I tought you and the future ieldi would like it. Trough birds don't usually like cats, heh ! Well, you never know, uh ? I like the idea of the windshimes, trough im not quite sure what they do exactly... Adrian told me that they could have magical powers, but im not alot im that whole magic thingmaboop, so I don't quite know what, exactly. Ill seeya soon ! ~Zero Beside the note, was a small cat plushie.

Youkochylde I really should have picked a shelf closer to the ground. I'm exhausted from getting up here, and it's HUMID today. Ugh. But there was a lovely gift waiting for me when I got here! Zero apparently stopped by while I was gone and left a little cat plushie for my Ieldi! I'm going to set it up on the gift shelf so that it can be easily seen... and hope that tonight I can stay awake to try and see any spirits lingering around. I caught a vague glimpse of the one Rasu had been talking about, and now I'm excited that it may happen to my relic as well!

Quote: I can hardly believe my eyes.
Last night, I stayed awake as long as I could, and finally caught a glimpse of the strange light Yeande told me about. It was an Ieldi spirit, I'm sure of it! I managed to get a quick picture before it flitted away again, but it didn't take long before it came back again. It seemed most interested not by the items I had bought for it... but by the small cross charm on my collar. It's reflective, and the spirit seemed to be fascinated by seeing itself in the shiny cross.
I'm going to try and get a small mirror or something, maybe that would attract it even better?

Quote: Tonight, I'm ready. I've returned to the shelf well before dark, and set up the few small things I brought with me. I brought a small hand mirror from my bathroom at home and laid it next to the opening of the relic. I'm hoping that as the nights progress, I can move it slowly into there, and it might attract the spirit into staying. I also took heed to the way that the spirits seem to be attracted to lights.
However, I didn't want to burn down the shelf OR the tree, so I brought a small scent pot with me. It's a ceramic pot that looks quite a bit like my relic, and has a hollw inside with a bowled top to it. A small tea candle fits inside, and you can set scented wax squares in the top to melt and produce whatever scents you like. I brought blackberry with me tonight, it seems to be the strongest of the smells, but is still very pleasant and not too overpowering. This way also, I odn't have to worry about the spirit getting too close to the flame.
It's well enough while they're spirits, but I'd hate to see a fully summoned Ieldi get scorched by the fire. We'll see what happens, hmm?

Youkochylde I have decided to try a few more things. Well, using the things I already brought here, anyway. I have moved the mirror just a bit closer to the inside of the relic, and now it sits only about an inch away from the cave-like entrance. The scent-pot, however, I have moved closer, putting it right near the mirror, since the spirit seems to like both very much.
This way, it doesn't really have to go very far to see either, and maybe it'll entice the little one to take residence. We'll see how it goes!

Youko lay curled up on the beanbag, dozing on and off as light flickered in the sky above. He hadn't really thought of rain before... or the fact that there was NO shelter up here whatsoever. It was Chronos who came to his aid, smiling softly as he lifted a hand to shield the small shelves from the bulk of the rain, but leaving patches where the little spirits could dart in between the droplets if they chose while their guardians stayed dry. It was the least he could do, it seemed... these people were helping greatly in the efforts to bring back a race which had been wiped out horrifically long ago. There was a small glowing light near the relic on Youko's shelf, and he paused to look at it curiously. It didn't seem to notice him, which was good for the moment... he didn't want to scare the tiny spirit away. However, it seemed that this particular one was more interested in his own reflection. Chuckling to himself, the deity faded away, his work done. Youkochylde Chronos has been here... I can tell, I always get that vague tingling in the back of my mind when he's worked his particular brand of magic nearby. I didn't used to notice it, but I do now.
It seems that he protected us from the storm today, which is a good thing. It's early in the morning now, I must have fallen asleep early... however, the spirit which normally only comes at night is still here! It's hovering over the mirror, turning this way and that as it seems to debate whether it likes being in this vaporous form. Whatever it was before, it must have been beautiful, just from what I can see of it.
There seem to be transparent wings behind the little thing, and there is an unpracticed grace about it when it moves between the mirror and the scent pot. I tried cranberry last night... not as pungent a scent as the blackberry, but the spirit didn't seem to note the difference or care. It likes both, I believe.
The mirror appears to attract it more... I was going to movec it farther into the relic, bu t now the spirit doesn't look to be leaving. Well, maybe it'll grow to trust me more just by staying here. Yeande has gone back to the house for the time being. She said she would come back after the creature had calmed somewhat.
I think it likes the patterns Yeande painted with the berry stain. I caught it following one of the swirls, spinning around as if dancing along it. I wonder if it likes music? I'll have to bring my MP3 player tomorrow, or find someone who can get it for me and bring it here. I'm not sure if I want to leave the shelf right now, with how often the spirit is coming around... I don't want the poor thing to feel abandoned.

Youkochylde I spoke to Karma yesterday morning and feel like a putz now. Apparently I SHOULD have been talking to the little spirit this entire time, and haven't been because I was afraid it would scare it away. I guess I've watched too many 'Hauntings' documentaries, and thought that the sound would scare it away.
I've gone ahead and brought my MP3 player up to the shelf, as well as a supply of batteries for it, to see if it likes music, too. I also brought my Valdemar books with me, to read and to read to it if it decides it likes the stories.
Time to start experimenting again. Setting down the journal, Youko moved to curl up in his beanbag again, setting out the MP3 player and letting it start up. The music was from various theatre productions, and he knew most of the songs by heart. As he was arranging the books carefully on the shelf, he started humming along with the tunes, then singing softly to himself. It was a surprise when he turned and saw the shelf spirit behind him, bobbing along in the air with the music, as if dancing to it. "Well... hello there," he whispered softly, smiling. The spirit darted away, as if frightened, and Youko's ears drooped slightly. Maybe he'd been right and shouldn't have spoken... But the spirit returned after a few moments of flitting around nervously. Apparently the music was a bigger draw to it than the sudden greeting. Smiling still, Youko began the humming once more, then slowly started to work his way into singing the songs, keeping his voice soft as he did so. The spirit swayed in time with the tune, seeming enraptured by the music itself. With the soft colours, Youko could see where it was spinning here and there, and was nearly giddy at the realization that this particular spirit liked music almost as much as he did. "You dance very well," he whispered, grinning and settling into the beanbag once more. The colours of the spirit seemed to change slightly, as if it were blushing for a moment, but it didn't last long. Instead, the spirit seemed to preen... hovering over the mirror as it moved, as if it were watching itself as well. "And beautiful," the fox added, curling up contentedly to watch the antics of the spirit. Each time he gave a compliment, the drifitng vision seemed to react. So... it LIKED compliments. Youko filed that away for future reference, and made a mental note to thank Karma for the advice. Now that he knew his voice wouldn't scare away the spirit, he would definately talk to it more often.

Youko had only been gone a short while, really. He'd been meaning to sleep at home, but Yeande had woken him up coming home late, and the Feien was in a foul mood. He couldn't sleep, so decided to at least do something worthwhile, other than agonize over listening to an irate fairy when he had no idea what do to to help.
The fact that he'd pretty much been told to sod off didn't help, either.
Now he climbed back up to the shelf, much to the surprise of the spirit who wasn't used to seeing him at this time of night.
"It's okay, little one," he said softly, grinning. "I brought you something."
That seemed to get its attention, at least. He unzipped his backpack and picked up the little hand mirror, putting it inside. Almost immediately, the spirit reacted, making as if to dive after it.
"Wait! I brought you something better," he explained, pulling out a wrapped, flat square of brightly coloured fabric. Carefully, he took off the covering, revealing a perfectly square tile of mirror. "I had this at home on my dresser... I use it to put candles and such on, because the reflection makes the light brighter. I thought this would suit you better than the small hand mirror." Setting it down, he placed the scent pot at one corner and lit a tea candle for inside of it, then put another square of wax into the top, since the rest had almost completely vanished with how often he'd been burning it.
The spirit was entranced, it seemed... because now it could see all of itself in the reflection, instead of just a bit here and there. Smiling to himself, Youko turned on the mp3 player, bringing up the volume to where the music could be heard easily through the headphones that lay near the mirror as well. "How's that?" he asked, settling into the beanbag and grinning.
He could have sworn the spirit was nearly vibrating in place. It seemed excited about this new addition.
"I thought you might like it. Now you can see just how wonderfully you dance, and how gorgeous you look, hmm? I can hardly wait to see what you look like, little one... if you're this pretty as a spirit, you'll be absolutely stunning in your true form, won't you?"
It didnt' take long before the spirit was 'dancing' again, swaying here and there with the music and flitting about the shelf. Youko was happy that he'd finally managed to at least break through a bit of the uncertainty surrounding them. He felt like an idiot for not just TALKING to the spirit before now. But at least it was a mistake that he seemed to be able to rectify. Before long, he was singing softly along with the music, his smile unshakeable as he watched the lithe little spirit enjoying itself.

"Honey, I'm home!" Youko grinned as he came up the stairs, flopping into the beanbag nearby. The spirit was surprisingly still, and the fox could swear he was being glared at. "What??" he asked, holding up both hands. "What did I do?"
The spirit moved to the mp3 player, hovering around it and making a motion like it was trying to kick it. Youko responded by picking it up and looking. It was turned on, but no music was coming out. "Ahhh..." he said, smiling. "I'll fix that easily enough. The batteries died on it, I just need to replace them."
He had brought up some before, so it was no trouble to change them out, and when he set the player back down, it was playing music once more. The spirit seemed ovejoyed by this and immediately was fluttering around the shelf, its colours changing each time it moved.
"How's that, pretty... better?" Youko asked, laughing softly when the spirit darted forward and buzzed around his head a few times. "I guess so! I promise, I'll make sure I check the batteries before I go off next time," he said, settling into the beanbag chair to watch the spirit's antics.
"Now you can dance to your heart's content," he said, grinning at the obvious glee that came from the spirit's movements. Youko blinked then as the spirit dove towards the folded pile of fabric that had been wrapped around the mirror square. "What are you doing, pretty?" he asked, using the 'nickname' he'd coined for the tiny Ieldi.
The spirit toyed with the fabric as best he could, finally worming its way underneath it and hovering around with the multi-coloured cloth draped over it. It only lasted a few moments before the cloth fell again into a heap, and the spirit seemed to be nosing its way around it... if it had a nose, anyway.
"I don't know what you're trying to tell me, but if it's clothes you want, it's going to have to wait a little bit, pretty. But you're beautiful enough without them, with all your colours." Smiling, Youko was already plotting getting clothes made for the Ieldi once it would be able to wear them as the brightly coloured ball of mist went back to alternating between the music and playing with the fabric.
