Listen to this:
One day a scientist asked an old preacher how come the Bible version of creation defied logic.Smiling, he replied," The reason God came from nowhere was that there was nowhere for Him to come from. And coming from nowhere He stood on nothing, for there was nowhere for him to stand. And standing on nothing He reached out where there was nowhere to reach and caught something when there was nothing to catch. Then He hung that something on nothing and told it to stay there, and nobody said a word, because there wasn't anybody around to say anything. Then God said to Himself,"that is Good!"

Moonshadow11111 I believe in evolution, but by God's Hand. I think that He led everything, over time, to be what it is today, because I know that God created the world, but then He led it to grow and change and because successful. I partially believe this because Darwin was a Christain, and Mendel, the discoveror(sp?) of hereditary was a monk. I don't think they wanted to disprove God at all. I think they probably wanted to prove what He has done to our world. Remember: God is behind everything, including science. I agree! I also think that God led nature so that people could understand how we got to where we are today. I think that it is easier for most of humankind to see life as a natural progression rather than God literally creating everything the way it is now in 6 days.

Spartan1989 Evolution and the Bible don't mix. If evolution were to be true then that means that there was no reason for Christ. Christ died for our sins right? Yes. The next logical question would be to ask, where did our sin and sin nature come from? Threw adam and eve when they fell in the garden. If the Genesis story in the Bible is not literal then there was no deception and no fall of man and there would be no reason for Christ. Just because the creation story was not literal does not mean that the key points could not have been true. As we evolved from Australopithicus up, we could very easily have been thrown more and more into sin as we became smarter, resulting in what we are today; homo sapiens. The point of having an allegory is to show all the points in an easier-to-understand manner. The points are still the same (God created all, man became a sinner) The story is just altered slightly. You have to admit, "They became more disposed to certain behaviours over millions of years" doesn't exactly make for an exciting beginning to the story.

You guys have the right to believe whatever you want. Personally, I trust God. I trust that he means what he says. Who is the fool that claims God speaks in symbolism? The only symbolism in the bible is made clear that it is so, such as Jesus' parables, which are obviously analogies. Psalm 12:6 And the words of the Lord are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace of clay, purified seven times. God makes it clear in the very first chapter of the Bible that he is not affiliated with the theory of evolution. The only reason so many believe that God used evolution is because they are convinced that evolution is real no matter what. And what is the reason for this? They don't know the facts. There is no empirical evidence for evolution and there never will be. It is even insulting that many that claim to know God defend the very theory that athiests hold as their trump card towards the ignorant. But maybe I'm babbling. If you want a scientific debate, go check out my post about evolution.

Lithanus For some reason I remember Darwin creating the theory for the sole purpose of disproving Christianity. As for the relationship of evolution and the bible, evolution was meant to disprove the bible, so of course they can both be true. Although, we don't know exactly how everything came to be in the bible. We could take what happened to be literal, but even the Jews say that if you did, you would miss out on the lesson. To get stuck on how things happened, when there is no way to find out 100% in the end is kinda silly to me. I entertain the idea that some of evolution principles are true, but I wouldn't put my faith in it. -ahem- Darwin was Christain. During his time, the creation was a huge contraversy. He and his wife both went to church and all that, and his wife didn't want him to publish his works, because she knew people would misinterpret his beliefs.

If you want a scientific debate, go check out my post about evolution. What you have to keep in mind is that in the Jewish culture, much of their stories were not 100% true in the way that they told them, but the overall idea of the story was the truth. Jesus spoke to them in this manner because He knew that Jews were accustomed to this. That doesn't necessarily mean that all of the old testament was symbolic, there is a lot of history on genealogy and laws. Although, a lot of it was even written as poetry, and poetry is all about symbolism and the like. To really understand the bible you have to understand who wrote it. And if God wrote it all by Himself, can we really say we would understand it 100%? That is why the bible was written by man, and to understand it helps if we understand the authors and their intent, otherwise the Holy Spirit is our best guide. I believe God wants us to think about our lives and our commitment with Him, not to just blindly follow because He said so. He is fully capable of that and if He wanted that behavior He wouldn't have given us free will.

Actually, my opinion on the whole creation, is, to be perfectly blunt about it, WHO REALLY CARES? Isn't this entire thing just to prove everbody else wrong? As long as we know that God was and still is in control of everything, what difference does it really make if we know exactly what happened over 2 million years ago?
Also, in regards to taking the Bible literally or not, I have something to say. Who's heard/read that story when Jesus takes a little boys lunch and makes it feed 5000 (or 3000 depending on the version) people with leftovers? My pastor gave a sermon about that story, and he said he didn't think Jesus made all that food appear out of nowhere. He said the little boy's generousity inspired all the people to share what they had, which was obviously more than enough. That in itself is still a miracle.
But I also agree with what Lithanus wrote, that how can we completely understand the Bible if God was the One behind it?
