There was a cup of coffee in his right hand. Tolly put this down and nodded to Reiku.

"Reiku-san.. yeah, we can talk. Is everything okay?"

The project manager looked at the young man as well. He smiled a little and looked back to Tolly.

"I think we have everything we need for now Director. I'll have the beta crew start trouble shooting as soon as they get here. Also, Morita said his team would be arriving tomorrow."

"Good," Tolly responded and pulled out a chair for Reiku. "Have a seat. You look like you've got something on your mind."

Tolly saw the compact in Reiku's hands. He had a feeling he knew where this was about to go. Sitting down himself he poured more coffee into his cup.

Tolly laughed softly and sipped his coffee.

"Son, the Corallian thing. That's not something to be joking about. Look, I'm sorry to hear about your parents.

"Truth is, Dewey Novak is a b*****d and I'm not surprised to hear about such a thing. You're hatred of the UF makes a little more sense, now that I know this."

He reached out his hand to the compact. "Do you mind if I look at this?"

The amber glow shown through clearly. Tolly held the device up to the light and looked through it. Smiling he pointed towards a large metal cabinet in the back corner of the room.

"Well, Reiku. Let's find out what we can about this little toy. On that shelf... you see the black case on the botton shelf?"

He handed the compact back to Reiku.

"On second thought I'll get it." Tolly said and walked over to the shelves. He pulled the case off and opened it up in the floor. Inside was were three or four devices all resting inside grey foam indentations.

"This, my good man. It what they call a compact resonance mapper. It's used..." Tolly grunted as he lifted the main device out of the case. "...used to check out compacts and make sure there wave signals are in sink with the LFO's. We keep them on most of my bases. You'd be surprised what nasty little viruses have sprung up inside the compact fluids in the past."

Tolly plugged the compact in to the socket in the center of the main tool. It fit snuggly and several lights came on around the base.

He picked up a hand held box with a digital screen on it and pushed several buttons.

"Hey, don't get to excited. It's basically like scanning a computer hard drive. We won't know anything for a little while."

Looking him over he rubbed his chin. "So... why don't you tell me about your dad while we're waiting. Seems like he must have been a pretty smart guy."

Rolling the chair over he turned it around backwards and sat down to wait... and listen.

"Wait... you're Huro's son?" Tolly looked Reiku over then with a very serious expression. "Yeah...I guess you are aren't you. I didn't realize he had died."

Standing up he glanced at the compact and walked over to the window. It looked out over the "Ugly Bird" He watched as the hanger doors opened and a jeep load of workers arrived to start on it.

"Your father," he said still staring out the window. "He was a good mechanic. He was a good man. I worked with him during his stay at Tresor."

Turning around Tolly looked into Reiku's eyes. "That was before you were born. He was called in for his experience with servo joints and actuator interlocks. He was a smart man. Everyone that worked on the Project ArchetypeZero were smart people. Even your mother.

"Yes, I knew her to. They stole my... I mean, your dad borrowed my motorcycle once to take her on a date." Tolly pulled out a cigarette and lit it. "They were good people."

Tolly stared at the young man. He didn't like where this was going.

"Yeah, I guess. You're father was responsible for the limiter system they used in the early LFO models. He was goods friends with a man... well..."

Taking a long drag on the cigarette he stabbed it out on the bottom of his boot and threw it in a trash can.

"A man that our friend Kayako has alot of hatred for. The interaction between human brainwaves and Compact resonance was something they took very seriously. That new project, the one Dewey wanted from him. My guess is that it's connected to the compact you have there.

"The last time I talked to him was probably over a year ago. He told me the military had given him funding for some secret project. My guess is.."

The machine on the floor let out a few chirps to indicate it was finished.

"..better yet. Let's find out."

(it says chirp chirp... rofl )

Looking at the digital display the director pushed a button.

"Gimme a second."

Scrolling through the information Tolly's expression went from interest, to wonder, to confusion. He rubbed his lip and closed his eyes.

"Um... wait a minute." he stepped over to the window and grabbed a pencil and paper off the desk in front of it.

Making some notes he hit a button on the monitor again. He quickly scrawled more notes.

"Well... the script is shorter. Plus there's some kind of chemical agent added to the fluids. It's an emulsifier. It acts.. Um.. I'm not sure but I think this is an updated version of the limiter. It's actually bonded to the compacts chemical base. Look the necessary seratonin would be less."

He looked at Reiku and realized he wasn't making any sense. "Does your LFO respond very quickly to your commands? If so it's because of this thing."

"Yeah... I could see him doing that. Like I said, Deweys a B*****d. Course, I can understand why he'd want to get his hands on it. The limiter system was used on all the early LFO's. In order to use it the rider had to use drugs that slowly ate away at his mind.

"It was stuff like that that convinced me to leave the UF. I couldn't stomache there lack of respect for human life. Not even there own."

Tolly pulled the compact out of the testing machine and put it in Reiku's hands.

"Reiku, this device. It makes the LFO react faster. I don't know what kind of effect it would have on the LFO itself though. It's possible that instead of the rider being harmed. It could harm the archetype instead. I want to look over Twilight and see how it's doing... um.. I don't know the word for it either.. doing in the synapses. Jezz if it were a person I'd say in the brain but that's faulty thinking. LFO's are people they're machines."

He pulled out another cigarette then.

"Listen, for now, don't tell anyone what we talked about. This compact. It's special. Just make sure it stays in the Twilight for now. I want to focus on getting that." he pointed out the window. "Stupid ugly bird straightened out before we tackle anything else."

"And for the record. There's other ships out there fighting against the UF. But everyone of them helps and I hope that this one will be a force to reckon with."
