"So I'm pretty thick-headed. I'm sorry," he shouted over her. "I wasn't trying to tease you or anything." Though if he had been, he'd have good reason... The antagonism, and that incident after his second change. Now it was he who could easily keep up as the cow hobbled along. It did strike him as ironically poetic. But now, when it would have been perfect to lash back... he didn't want to. It would be a cheap shot, and especially bad since this islander, despite having been a man once, was now a woman.

"Go ahead and laugh," Freddie hissed. "Bet it makes you feel real good you get to keep yer d**k." She gave him a baleful look over her shoulder. "Bet all the ladies just love you now."
She wiped her nose again, this time using her shirt. She was unwittingly giving Gaius a good view of how much she'd let herself go, but thankfully there was a strapless bra underneath to spare him the sight of anything worse. The cafeteria was in sight, and as she walked determinedly towards it Freddie tried to wiped away the trail left on the black cotton of her shirt.

"I'm not gonna laugh," Gaius stated in a flat, angry tone, then blushed ashamedly and glanced away. "It's not like that. They still took my humanity," he protested as he began following her again, "and my fingers."
Like it or not, he still needed food, though he should probably just wait and let Freddie go on alone, as she wished. He grimaced, averting his eyes as Freddie took care of her nose, though he couldn't help a glance. It was worse than Nita, in a way, since there wasn't all the fur to cover everything. Vixen remained at Gaius's side, though she walked between him and Freddie now, keeping a wary eye on the cow should she make a move again.
"It's not something I could laugh at. Not something so sad like this... The labs really gave you the shaft." He spoke flatly. "I didn't mean to add salt to the wounds or anything."

"Yer whole presence is like salt on a wound," Freddie hissed, falling back to her old safe, familiar, and crude tactics. Confirmation she'd be screwed over more than most only stoked her anger. "I don't need your sympathy, Black Beauty, so just take yer dog and get the hell out of my face." She wiped ineffectually at the snot that had stubbornly dried on her shirt. "Just once I'd like to eat a meal in peace with out someone tryin' to get me to talk about how ******** up everything is."
It occurred to her that maybe she shouldn't have pushed him away like that, maybe he was just trying to help. Maybe she should have just swallowed her pride, admit that she deserve what she got, and turn over a new leaf... Like hell. She was bloated full of milk, hobbling like a cripple, and so she had every right to be angry. Gaius's apologetic attitude only irked her even more in light of that.

Gaius held up his hands in defeat. His drive to make amends only carried so far, and it was obvious even to the horse-man that the cow-lady did not want to talk. He was likely making things worse even as they spoke. "Alright, I'm sorry. You win, I'll leave you alone. I shouldn't have bothered."
Catching Vixen's leash again, he turned away. "I'll just get something to eat later." He cast a glance over his shoulder at the cow and rubbed his reddened muzzle again. "At least you still throw a hefty punch."

"Damn right I do," Freddie said, giving Gaius a look that suggested he'd come unhinged to be complimenting her on something like that... So maybe she secretly liked confrontation, too.
She shook her head and stalked off to the cafeteria.

Having thrown out that consolation, Gaius turned towards his duplex. Anything he had left there would be better than risking another fight with guy-er, girl... whatever. He'd need another long session at the work site later to recover from this...
Women were all crazy. Even if they'd been guys. It really must be in the genes.
