Okay, first I'd like to ask a few questions. 1. How exactly do you act goth? 2. What do you actually mean by 'dressing goth'?
If any of your answers have the words "HIM", "Marilyn Manson", and/or "Hot Topic", I'm sorry but I can't help you.

Nero PsyKoTiX Viviane_neechan -Resurrected Writer- Act? How do you act goth? In any case, if your friend can't handle you listening to Bauhaus or Sex Gang Children, then I don't understand what her issue is. I think a lot of people have really valid points here--my personal opinion? Friends have never been so important to me. I really haven't gotten very close to any of them. I can understand why someone wouldn't want to be seen with a person that would make people look down on them, but it seems a bit nobler to stick with a friend through anything. I agree that you should think and pray--it'll come to you.
I quoted Res-san's post to pose a sub-question to the endlessly wise C G guild:
What the heck IS goth, really? Is it a dark style of dress? I mean, I know the denotation (old, extinct Germanic tribe of people; style of art/achtitecture propular in Baroque and Romanticism periods, etc.), but I really have no solid idea of what 'goth' really means as slang.
Thank you for your patience with me. ^^; heart Surprisingly, Wikipedia actually has a good article on it. Because I really don't feel like writing a whole essay on it. blaugh (reads)...Ah, brilliant, thankies so much!! ^^ should've thought to look here in the first place!

Goth is more mind-set than look.
I don't look Goth all the time, but I get called Goth. I can dress 'normally' but people still say I'm Goth; even if they've only just met me.
A Goth can get away with dressing Non-Goth, but a Non-Goth cannot get away with dressing Goth.
Dress how you feel you should, don't let any one tell you how to be. I've got no choice at the moment; my mother threw all my Goth clothes away.

Well, I'm alot like you. I'm a real goth, but I have such a wide range of intrests that I don't always dress like it, I love all sorts of funky clothes. whee So maybe you can comprimise. You don't have to dress goth 100% of the time. Dressing as your mood demands is good for you, but it doesn't mean you have to gain a label you're not sure you want by having the same style everyday. Mix and match. wink

Nero PsyKoTiX Goth is an aesthetic. Nothing less, nothing more. Exactly. It's just a subculture of music and aesthetics. I don't get where people think "mindset" - are all goths cattle with one personality? neutral

I don't get where people think "mindset" - are all goths cattle with one personality? neutral By Mindset I don't mean personality. with England, there's too many posers because people think it's just about the music and clothes. To any true English 'goth' thats an insult. Goth is about seeing beauty in everything, no matter how vile or pointless it may seem to everyone or anyone else. It's about realisng this world is dying, whih is the reason for the mourning apperance. It's about acceptance and understanding where someone is coming from. It's about being really and true to who you are, not to what the media says goth is or should be. There are very high standards in England when it comes to Goth. I know plenty of 'goths', though very few who are really Goth, by Englands standard.

Dress how you feel most comfortable, dress your own unique style. If your friend is really your friend she will accept it.

I prefer Europe's standard of goth. Alot of goths I see are just the stereotypical vile goth. I'm more of a European goth if really goth at all. sweatdrop
