"Ahhh...." the crying threw the black lioness off. She thought that she might of taught the little cub a lesson, but it certainly didn't work out the right way. She didn't worry about that so much, but the tears and the clinging were a whole different manner. "Aahhh...." came an echo, the lioness stood still for a moment, trying to figure out what to do. She didn't want to apologize, but she didn't want to traumatize the cub any further. How would she get around that.
"Don't apologize," was all she said, the black lioness peeking over her shoulder in an awkward manner. The both of them were soaking wet now, and the water dripped off Ruffian to create small ripples in the watering hole. She motioned to get out of the water when a surge of pain rippled through her left foreleg. Well, s**t. She seemed to of strained her leg when she fell in. This was going to suck. A lot.
She wadded towards the edge of the pool, her movements slow and jerky as she tried to not put too much weight onto her leg. She did her best to act as fine as she wished she felt, but it was obvious in her eyes that she wasn't completely fine.

"Oh... okay." Siri sniffed and clung (gently, she hoped) to the black lioness' back. She kept as much of her as possible out of the water and eyed it's murky depths with a deep distrust.
Learning to swim suddenly sank to the bottom of her "to do" list. Dry land was MUCH better. Siri cast her gaze to the bright blue sky and eyed it suspiciously too. If it rained too much, there would be a lot of water on the ground...
Well, she would just hide out with Mama and Daddy if that happened.
Siri nearly slipped off back into the water and Ruffian stepped jerkily up onto the bank. What was wrong? The lioness' gait was off, even the cub could feel that. Sudden fear and guilt rippled through her - what if she was hurt? What if she was crippled for a long time because of Siri?
"Are you alright? Did I hurt you?" She cried, allowing herself to slide off the slick back and crumple painfully on the hard ground. The cub scrambled to her feet, tail tucked and ears folded back. She made certain to keep as far from the bank as possible, her worried gaze occasionally sliding past the gently rippling water.
"I'm sorry!" She burst, unable to contain the apology any more.

The black lioness pulled herself up onto the bank, collapsing on her side once she did make it all the way onto the relatively dry bank. Sonn it wouldn't be, with the sopping wet lioness, but she would move soon enough. She needed to catch her breath before moving again. Plus the wailing of the little cub was grating on her nerves, yet there was a piece of her that felt vaugly sorry. What was it?
She soon propped herself up into a sitting position, and motioned for the little cub to move a bit further from the bank, where the land was dry. The bank was wet now, and she didn't want the little cub to get sick from staying wet. "Shhhh," the black lioness spoke. "Just shake yourself off, nothing to worry about." Her patience was gone, but it was replaced with something else; understanding empathy. Which felt...vaugly off to the mistweaver-born Pridelander.
The black lioness herself stood up to shake off as much water as she could before sitting back down again. The sun would work to finish off the rest of the water, so she wouldn't bother to worry about her own coat until it was dry. It was time to focus on the little purple cub she traumatized.

Siri scooted backwards, her wide blue eyes darting between the injured lioness and the treacherous bank. Following Ruffian's advice the cub shook herself from head to toe, staggering a little with the force. Her fur stuck out at odd angles but she didn't notice. Choking down her sobs she tried her best to put on a brave front and not be annoying.
"Are you okay?" She inquired, her eyes sliding to the favored leg and back to the lioness' face. The question was asked in a much calmer tone, Siri doing her best to keep her voice quiet.
One time Mama had told her that if she got hurt she could become not alive, like the prey they ate. Mama said that if a lioness couldn't hunt, she couldn't eat - and then she would just waste away...
Siri shuddered. How awful!
"You can still catch food, right? You won't die?" If there was a hint of despair or panic on the edge of her voice, it was hidden well.

Ruffian limped lightly a bit around the cub, letting her view the extent of her injures; which really wasn't anything. She smirked a bit at the cub's worried calls, but while Ruffian knew it was something to be concerned about, it would heal in it's own time.
She soon settled down back in her spot, letting the warm sun soak into her back. Oooh, it felt good after that mess of a lesson. Closing her eyes, he flopped her tail on the ground a few times, giving herself a moment of just...quiet. Inbetween the cub's sobs, of course. She opened her earth-coloured eyes, looking down on the cub with a hint of humor.
It was then that she caught the 'die' part, and couldn't help but laugh. Die? She was far from dying! "Haha, I won't die, little cub. I won't hunt well for a while, but that brute of a companion of mine can hunt for me." Her tail flopped more behind her; one thing that was habitual for the lioness was her tail in some kind of movement, all the time. "I think you should ask yourself if you're okay, though. Fretting over me isn't going to make sure you yourself is doing okay."

Well... she supposed the lioness didn't look like she was hurt too badly. In fact, she didn't seem that injured at all! But it was still sad, still a bad thing to happen. Siri remembered that time she'd fallen off those rocks and landed funny. Her foot had bothered her for weeks! Hopefully this lady would be stronger and get better faster.
"Oh..." She spoke in a quiet voice, wondering if Ruffian was only trying to console her. At the mention of her companion the cub brightened. "Okay! Then you can still get food!"
At the lady's suggention, Siri climbed to her paws and pranced through the grass, taking care to keep away from the sodden banks. Nothing hurt or twinged, everything seemed normal!
"All good!" She replied cheerily. Even her fur was drying out now! ... in a weird way though. The cub frowned critically and began to try and smooth out the kinks in her purple coat.

The black lioness sighed in relief that the cub was alright. If anything happened to that cub, she knew that she would have to answer to the runt's parents, and that was sure to go over well.....not. She settled her weight a bit before speaking up again.
She cracked a smile when the cub was trying to groom herself. She didn't seem to be doing too good of a job, but that was something that a mouther taught, not a scout. The black lioness gave the cub another long glance before grooming herself, mostly focused with her face and neck. No way was she going to return to the den looking like she just faced a rainstorm.
After someone sloothing out her own damp coat, she turned back to the little cub. "Well, I'm certain that this might be the end of this little adventure for the day." She glanced around for a moment, taking the time to see if anyone else was around. Negative. Hmmm....
"It might be good if I saw you home, though. It's not too late, but I don't want your parents to worry too much...." and she didn't want to get in too much trouble for not acting 'responsible' for the little runt. Sigh. So much troubles with pride life, but she was slowly getting used to what was expected of her.

Siri looked up from her poor grooming job in time to catch Ruffian's smile, and she returned it in full. Her eyes narrowed curiously as the older female began to clean her own fur. Lick the paw, then slide it over your face... of course! Wasn't that what Mama always told her to do?
Siri gave it a shot was was pleased to feel the kinks begin to smooth out of her fur. It worked! Wouldn't Mama be so proud?! The purple cub beamed to herself and began grooming with more confidence. Now she could give herself her baths! Ruffian's voice interrupted her thoughts.
"Oh! Really? You'd walk me home?" Her blue eyes lit up and she scrambled to her feet. "Mama and Daddy would love to meet you an' I could tell them all about how you saved me from drownin' an' how nice you are!"
Someday she would be as brave as the dark lioness!

The black lioness couldn't help but smirk as the little cub just seemed so excited for her to take her home. Against her wishes, the purple cub was growing on Ruffian, and she was a bit pleased with how it felt. Not that she would admit it to her companion, but she might to the little cub.
"Well, someone's got to make sure you get there in one piece, aye?" Her smirk flashed across her face again as she pulled herself up on all fours to get ready to go. "Remember, now, you're leading the way." She gave a small push for the cub to start bouncing off, and hopefully she wouldn't crawl all around her legs in excitement. Where did all their crazy energy come from, anyway?

"Yesyesyes!" Siri beamed, pranced, and generally tripped all over herself in an explosion of joy. "It's this way!"
Wow! This dark lioness really wanted to go with her? Her parents would be so proud of her daughter for finding such a great, amazing, strong friend! What could be better? I be I learn a whole bunch! Siri giggled to herself and rubbed affectionately against Ruffian's dark leg.
"Thankyouthankyou!" This was better than she'd imagined! Her wet and poorly drying coat quickly dropped to the back of her mind. Even the wind against her chilled body couldn't distract her now! "They'll love you, I'm sure!"
With a grin she took off, little more than a purple streak that paused at the rough beginnings of a short trail. She glanced back and bounced in place, waiting for Ruffian to catch up.

"Oh geeze." The lioness was a bit taken aback at the pure excitement that the cub held, but she tried to remember that she was just a cub, and surely anything could excite one with such a heart. She swished her tail, snorting a bit to hide her laughter before following the cub, hoping that her parents wouldn't kill her for what she did today. Since, as cubs were infamous for, she would surely tell at least one of her parents everything that happened.
The lioness' long lengths began to catch up with the cub, though with Siri zipping off all over the place, she hoped that she really did know where she was going, or they might have another disaster before the day was over. Cubs may be cute, but they sure were headaches!

Siri missed Ruffian's exasperation; oblivious and thrilled at having met a new friend (especially a big lioness!) she pranced up the rough-hewn trail without a worry in the world. Her fur was already nearly dry now, and she was sure that by the time they got to her home it would be. Of course, it was still all crimped...
Maybe Momma would get the kinks out of her fur for her!
Siri cast an impatient glance back towards Ruffian. "C'mon! Maybe Momma caught dinner, an' you can stay!"
That would be fun, and then they'd have all night to tell their story! Her parents could properly thank the lioness for saving their daughter too. Perfect!

"Alright, I'm coming!" the dark lioness called out with a huff, though more in a humored mood then an irritated one. She picked up her pace, walking in longer strides then she had before. The cub bounced in front of her, but Ruffian could still keep her in her sights, so she didn't worry too much about anything happened.
"Dinner?" she asked herself, the idea of eating with someone else, especially a full family, didn't sit well in her stomache, but even if she wasn't invited, she wouldn't worry too much about it. Cubs just seemed to think that everything in the world was okay, as long as it was okay with them. She shook her head with a grin, and caught up to the cub, intent to make sure she got home safe.
