I've never broken any sticks before. One of my friends broke a marimba mallet though. One time, after a concert, someone left a drumstick on one of the lights, and it caught on fire. Luckily a teacher walked on the stage and put it out.

PianoLove You broke a vibe mallet? wow... One of our snares breaks his sticks all the time. The drumline and mallets switched places, and I was sitting by the vibes (which is where the snares used to be) and I see splinters all over the floor. i have broken an entire set of four... BEAT THAT... i also shattered a total of 7 plastic marching bell mallets

We were debuting a piece at halftime this past season; it's an extremely (difficult) tenor heavy cadence, so the tenors click off. The guy clicking off had brand new sticks for the occasion, and he wanted to make sure that the audience heard him. Of course, one of his sticks snaps in half. The other tenor was laughing to hard to play, and the whole thing basically ended up sucking. x____x

we had to play with our crosstown rivals this year and we weren't allowed to do "drumline-esque" things even though we watched drumline the day before. me and the top bd player bent our mallets out of whack really bad. the top player from two years ago busted so many rims that he had to start paying for them.

one of our bell players was playing and the head of the mallet flew off and hit one of the other players =P
Our snare players (One actually...) Break so many sticks that we have a whole stick graveyard in the drum room.

UGH ITS REASONS LIKE THIS WHY I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY PIT HAS TO PAY A STICK FEE TO REPLACE DRUMLINE'S STICKS.
Every season, I have to pay a stick fee even though I'm in pit and we don't kill mallets that often. We don't recieve new mallets. We haven't since 7 years ago and we're running out. We only killed 1 during winter season out of the entire pit..but our fee goes to our stupid drumline members who play games like "who can make the biggest dent in the bass drum" or "lets see who can play the loudest rim shot."
*rolls eyes*

Holy Battery! PianoLove You broke a vibe mallet? wow... One of our snares breaks his sticks all the time. The drumline and mallets switched places, and I was sitting by the vibes (which is where the snares used to be) and I see splinters all over the floor. I didn't break the vibe mallet, the string... shredded.the string mallets always do that. especially during outdoor. We have ratan mallets and we had a competition in the rain, and the next day, over half of our mallets were destroyed. the shafts splintered.

We don't get new anything very often...so anytime we even mention that we lost something or broke it...our director yells at us.
In the past two years that I've been here, we've broken endless pairs of drumsticks (not to mention the one pair that the freshmen put through a pencil sharpener and are now like javelins >_> ), 4 marimba mallets, lost the good bell mallets, broke the wind chimes, the vibraphone, the marimba, the xylophone, the conga cart, timbale sticks, 5 big marching bass mallets, two sets of tenor heads, three sets of tenor mallets, a few timpani mallets, the guiro stick...
It's no wonder he gets mad at us, we break things like...once a week >>;

one time in a middle of a show our bass capitan hit the felt of the stick off, then he was trying to play with the other stick, which just so coincidentally, you thought it, BROKE, then our idiot fourth (last) drum player broke his stick too. it was our last show of the season and i must say THE funniest. i think he got an award.

I've broken one set of mallets this past year. The heads ended up flying off behind me, flying off into the field. "Such cheap MALLETS!"

Ahahaha!!! I do that all the time, don't feel bad I also fling my snare sticks all the time Yup, I've flung my drumsticks at least 14 times at football games. sweatdrop And whenever I break a mallet or stick or whatever, my drumline instructor is all like, "Oh, hey Andie broke another stick, could ya go get another one Trey??" Haha, no big. :3 And my drumline breaks things on a daily basis, that's why I always keep an extra pair of drumsticks in my little snare pocket thingy. The quint player does it too.
