Mbali didn't know, he had never had fish before.

"I guess they would but I don't know anything about fish. I haven't eaten, caught or had anything to do with them. I can be something of a wimp around water." He looked down at his son and felt pretty bad. This wasn't going anywhere. He was a bad father after all. So much for having a proper family.

"Oh.... I see." He said softly, his voice dying. But he was realizing that this was turning out to be an aweful moment and he put a cheerful face on. "Then we can learn about them together, dad!" His tail flicked and he gently bumped his head into his father's large paw, the watering hole in sight.

"uhm.." He seemed a little hesitant. "Why... why does Azzy look so much like you but... I don't..." His voice faltered and he looked down to his paws. "I don't look like you or mom? It... seems to bug mom a lot... My color.. I mean.." His voice had gotten rather tiny by the end of his sentance, he sounded both embaressed and ashamed.

Mbali smiled as Siyo said about learning and he bumped into him, maybe he was doing something right? Then came the question.

"Why are you red? Haven't you seen the big red lion around these lands? He is your great uncle you got his colour." He paused for a bit untill they got down to the water.

"Some lions come out like their parents and some come out like their aunts and uncles, it is just how things work. Your mother is bitter. She hates her family back at the pridelands and probably believes that she was cursed having you red to never forgot them or something stupid like that, but you can't be a curse when her uncle and cousins live here too." He looked down at his son and smiled.

"Your mother isn't a nice girl in general. When I first met her she acted like a spoilt brat, always moaning and wanting things done for her. I tried to help your mother and even though she calmed down towards me, she is still bitter and probably always will be. I'm sory Siyo, I wish she would grow up sometimes." He looked down into the water at his reflection, whenever he did he always saw his parents looking back at him. He missed them both and his mother... most of all his mother.

He had seen his great uncle Uumi. He hadn't known he was his great uncle... actually he hadn't even really guessed that they were related, same coat color or not. And that Uumi person had many red cubs... he must not have resented them back they were colored just like him. "Why are my eyes green?" he said slowly, still curious. "I mean.. I get why I'm colored this way now... but I don't know anyone with eyes as bright as mine father!" He stopped at the water's edge, looking into his own eyes before dipping a paw in. "You and mom don't have green eyes either." If he thought hard enough he knew his mother had blue eyes, brighter than his father's. That red lion had red eyes... so he couldn't have gotten those from him.

Siyo didn't want to feel jealous with Azzy, even though he was jealous that she'd come out looking much like their father. His eyes rolled over the splatters of color and he frowned slightly. No, he wasn't completely jealous. He liked the colors of the fur but he thought that it was a little too much. Too many places to look at once... the only interesting part of him or maybe the only part that was anything like his parents was the color of the three stripes on his face, colored like his mother. "Oh! A fish!" He said as he spotted a minnow, not knowing the difference between the two, and moving more into the water.

"Eeeh?" It had darted away much too fast!

Mbali was a little lost from where the green eyes came from. It wasn't from his family he knew that for sure.

"Your eyes must come from your mothers grandparents, the ones who's land this belongs to. My parents have redish brown eyes and blue eyes so they must come from your mother as well." He thought about it for a while and it seemed Siyo's colourings completely came from Bari.

He watched the fish and laughed as it swam off.

"Look here comes another one!" He tried to catch it with his paw but it also swam away.

"I didn't realise these things were so fast!" He chuckled a little and watched for another one. "We will catch at least one... some how."
