clarinet reeds + gum = one helluva mess to clean up (and a reed wasted!)

firegirlh2o We don't get in trouble as long as it's not when we are playing same. though idk why you would choose to do it when you play. whether it's in the reed or stuck in your mouthpiece it's still gross stressed

Yeah, but first we have a warning, and no one usually goes beyond that. the punishment is practicing high notes the morning after.

you know why you get in troble right???...not only does it get sugar in your instrument, but you can choke and die ...i personally think that people who choke on gum when playin an instrument deserves it .

Our BD goes straight for the humiliation factor. If you're caught then you have to stand up, make sure everyone is watching, then put it on your nose. It has to stay there the whole class too. In my band the reeds are really good at hiding it, stick it between your upper lip and teeth, trumpets and low brass almost always get caught though.

My band teacher has a sixth sense for gum chewing. She cn tell if you're chewing gum even if you aren't and it's just hiding under your tongue. When she finds someone she'll stop the band and tell them to spit it out and then announce that anyone else with gum should just spit it out now, and usually about five people get up. The later on she'll catch one r two more and be i a bad mood the rest of the rehersal.

yes...especialy the people uesing band horns because sugar erodes meatal and gets stuck in them...BD spends enough money on normal band repairs much less stupidity.

well since we're not allowed to chew gum at school its pretty bad. but our band director normally just tells us to spit it out. this one girl constantly chewed gum and everyday we would know she was chewing gum. but our BD made her scrub all the chairs and music stands with a toothbrush. poor her ~_~
