Running With the Demons by Terry Brooks. It's the first book in a trilogy, so we'll see how it goes. So far, so good. After this I have a few Neil Gaiman books laying around.

Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb, so good so far, her style is very mellow but then again nothing has really happened to illicit a stronger style of writing.
Still working on Eragon, but this book is far more interesting, so Paolini's love child will take a back seat for now.

Yes, her style is very mellow, but I think you will find that it is much more believable--and enjoyable, I think--than the really hot, jumpy style of writing that is so prevalent in modern fantasy. well, i am reading the most AMAZING series at the moment, and it would be interesting to know who else has come across it. the title is 'The wheel of time' and for fantasy readers it is one of the best sets of books you could read. The book I am up to at the moment is called 'The Lord of Chaos' and is number 6. Would anyone like to discuss it, or if there is somewhere where people are doing this already, would you care to point me in the right direction? Thanks biggrin

I've brought the 'Sword of Shannara' written by Terry Brooks and that is what I am currently re-reading. This was my very first novel that I ever read, and I am finding a lot of nostalgic memories are floating to the surface. Again I am reminded why I like the the 'shy boy' type when I remember Shea.

Thanks biggrin You obviously missed our thread on the Wheel of Time series, no worries, just scroll down, you'll find 99% of the people here have or are reading it. ^_^. the Demon p.s. I don't actually find modern fantasy novels jumpy or totally unbelievable. But I will give Hobb credit for crafting an iron-clad history that she can and does use to easily justify her characters, very crafty. By mellow I meant the story progresses slowly, but in a good way, god damn it'd be easier if we all spoke Japanese! They have words for everything!

Mmmmm.... Okay.... No Masq for today, folks! Sorry! sweatdrop On another note.... Mellow is actually a character in the series. A bard in Buckkeep who in a very tertiary character, yet makes me smile when he is referenced. Vale. ~Leavaros

Picked up a copy of Wicked. I have a completionist thing so I have to finish Eragon first, though from all accounts I hear Wicked is very good

Right now? Carnival by Elizabeth Bear. I like it all right so far -- it's not very deep into the story yet. I trip over her details and names sometimes, but I think that's because I haven't read this kind of novel for while....

I just finished reading Deep Storm by Lincoln Child. It's an excellent science fiction thriller--two opposable thumbs up! If you're not familiar with his novels, Lincoln Child has previously teamed up with Douglas Preston to write such science fiction thrillers as Relic, Reliquary, Cabinet of Curiosities, Brimstone, Riptide, and The Ice Limit. Has anyone read these novels?

I'm reading The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula K. Le Guin. I'm not exactly sure why I kept reading after the first chapter though since it's extremely boring!
