oh and what i dont like when i dress lolita is that people always think im in costume and im like no... rolleyes

I deffinately have that problem, also.
As much as i LOVEEE lolita.
Theres always that romantic goth side of me.
I dont know what to chose from x_x;
(Even though if you think about it, g lol and romantic goth have a lot in common.)

My favorite Lolita style is the Elegant Gothic Lolita so the first time I attempted to dress like that a woman approached me in the bus and gave me a card that said:

"Jesus loves you"

And there it was a Christian church phone number. I was like: eek So I said to her I did not need that and she said that my clothes evidenced that I was satanic.

That... is really awkward. ;;;; How rude of her to be presumptuous like that. Your beliefs can't be sorted out in the way you dress... and there's nothing wrong with satanism, really, it's just a different religion. -_- There's a solution, I suppose.. Start carrying around business cards for a psychiatrist office, and if some person who thinks they can judge you by what you're wearing approaches you about "your beliefs and direction in life", then smile sweetly, hand them a card and walk away. -_-;

It seems terribly rude; I'm so sorry, but I just don't like those kinds of people at all. ):

Other than your neighbour's dog, I don't think you can wear anything to make you Satanic, much less something that hides rather than showing off

I've had someone ask if it was that sexually seductive girl definition, but I replied no and explained that it was something different. I do not think they believed me even after the explanation.

I've also had someone ask if it was cosplay too and had to explain that it was a real style of dress. Another time, I've also had comments about it being scary and how they could not believe people would wear such things, meaning that they do not believe it could be normal wear or even a fashion.

Also, I've figured out why a small number of people call it Gothic Lolita when just referring to Lolita. The comments were made by people who looked through one of my few G&L Bibles and they all kept on missing the & in Gothic & Lolita.

I've said this before...

Dolls from hell. That's the connotation I get the most.

I also get "OMG I love your outfit! That's so cooolll! And adorable!"

So I suppose like someone said on here...

Take the good with the bad.

The whole "sexually promiscuous girl" thing seems to be the biggest negative connotation with Lolita. I don't know how many times I've heard people complain that when they do an image search for Lolita, the only thing that comes up are all these pornographic images. Quite sad how people try and corrupt something that is intent on capturing the essence of innocence.

It's because people don't believe that 'Lolita' was just a nickname back in the day, before Naokov camee out with that stupid book. Then stupid people made stupid assumptions and stuck it in their head like that.
And then there was that murder with "Lolita" a couple of years back, where that teen girl shot some lady in her head after telling her that she was sleeping with her husband, while posing as her 'sister'.

That's why when I go and do my panel in NYAF, I'll explain and show that Lolita, TX was named way before Lolita came out, and it was named after a girl named Lolita, who was NOT a slut, and who was INNOCENT.
