La Veuve Zin Mcphee I'm so damn glad that it's finally official.. Is it *official* official yet? I heard the official vote hadn't taken place yet, but considering that I live in the southern U.S. (not by choice) I may have missed it. Yet another reason for my moving to Canada. The anti-gay people appear to be much more marginalized and treated like the crazy extremists they are there than in the U.S. Someday I'll move to Vancouver and meet the girl of my dreams! 4laugh Don't worry in 10-15 years the U.S. will be just as liberal as Canada in the gay rights department. The only thing that the anti-gay legislation in the country is doing is making a delay.

I'm sort of "eh" on the issue. I'm Catholic and the Church teaches that homosexuallity is immoral. I believe that, and am trying to figure out why exactly it's immoral. I mean, to me it just -feels- immoral, but that's not good enough for me.
Anyways, even so, I'm for the legalization of gay marriages; As long as it's just a broad legalization. If they start trying to make all religions offer gay marriages, I've got a problem. But as far as I'm concerned, I have no more right to refuse a gay couple marriage then I do to refuse to allow people to have any kind of premarital sex.
On Spain: Do they have a state religion of Catholisism? Because if they do, it would really bother me if they passed a law legalizing homosexual marriages, because that would mean to me that the problem of Catholics not knowing what they believe is a lot worse then I thought. sad

Gay marriage has nothing to do with forcing it upon the church/religion but on the government for supporting one goups beleifs over anothers. Technically spains national religion is christianity but it is not forced upon the people or has any power in the government , its like the Vadikan is in Rome but has no political power except in persuading the people and government officials.
I have some personal issues with the catholic church , but im not going to force what i beleive on everybody else and thats the problem and misconseption with alot of people.

Anywho... my oppinion is that same-sex marriages are great.
It's not going to affect me directly if the same law is passed here, but it's still great.

I mean I feel eating meat is wrong, doesn't mean I'm going to tell you you're not allowed to eat meat.

toxic_lollipop Not relate to abortion, but a topic of interest for some people, perhaps. Canada is now the third country in the world to officially sanction gay marriage. If you're against gay marriage and feel like stating your opinion on it in here, well, be prepared to debate me on it.

seems like i m one of the only ones, but i do not agree with gay marriages. i have nothing against gay people, they are just like very body else, but marriage just doesnt work. marriage was not made to be between two guys or two girls. thats just not a marriage..... i think a lot of people now a days say they re gay because its the "fab" that is sooo wrong i think. i know that a lot of people really are, but i think they need help to understand their sexuality and why they are like this and what it means.... i defently agree that descrinating against them is immensly wrong.

I agree with you in disagreeing with gay marriage, and I know it's pointless to debate about it because of mob mentality. I'm just sick and tired of the rationalization people keep on coming up with when arguing for gay marriage... "They were born that way, it's genetics..." There are over 100k genes, identifying them all would take centuries... sounds like a nice way to make this argument. "People should have a choice to choose their life style." Why can't I choose a life of crime? "They aren't hurting anyone." I suppose insults don't count as hurting, of course not, know one cares about feelings right? rolleyes "Marriage is about love." I love my dog... "Marriage should be between two consenting adults." If it was, then why is there MAN and WOMAN! "I want to be open minded." Why can't you be open minded that a**l sex preformed by gay men help spread diseases a lot more? It's also the best way to spread HIV, can't anyone be openminded that sometimes people don't want to see others hurt themselves... Hell, we should make suicide legal. Sorry to rant. pirate

There are over 100k genes, identifying them all would take centuries... sounds like a nice way to make this argument. Well I'm not sure about "genetics" however I am sure they're born that way. Why don't you try being gay? You can't force yourself to be gay, not to mention that I'm 100% sure that I didn't want to be attracted to girls. When I first realized I was scared, confused and completely horrified with myself. I must have told myself that it was a "stage" I was going through for over a year before I finally accepted it.
You can say as many times as you like that gay people aren't born that way, but really how would you know unless you're gay/bisexual?Quote: "People should have a choice to choose their life style." Why can't I choose a life of crime? A life of crime hurts other people. Homosexuality is a lifestyle between two consenting adults.Quote: "They aren't hurting anyone." I suppose insults don't count as hurting, of course not, know one cares about feelings right? rolleyes Insults are a form of hurt used for the specific purpose of hurting someone else. If someone's feelings get hurt because someone else falls in love with someone of the same sex, well that's something they have to deal with.
People aren't homosexual because they want to hurt someone else, they just are. People insult people because they want to hurt them. Not only that I don't see any laws that say you can't insult someone.Quote: "Marriage is about love." I love my dog... A dog isn't human, has no human rights and cannot sign a marriage contract.Quote: "Marriage should be between two consenting adults." If it was, then why is there MAN and WOMAN! The same reason it used to be between a WHITE man and a WHITE woman. You weren't allowed marrying a black person to a white person.Quote: "I want to be open minded." Why can't you be open minded that a**l sex preformed by gay men help spread diseases a lot more? It's also the best way to spread HIV, can't anyone be openminded that sometimes people don't want to see others hurt themselves... Actually a**l sex period is the easiest way to spread STDs. Not only gay men have a**l sex. Not only that, since when did STDs determine whether or not a person is allowed to marry or not? Or whether they're allowed falling in love or not?

Actually a lot of people are just arguing for marriage between "consenting adults" because the polygamy thing is on the rise now...which I personally thing is wrong.
But yeah, the safest form of sex STD-wise is lesbian sex. So the "a**l sex is bad" argument doesn't really cover gay marriage.

I don't understand the point of marriage if you're not commiting yourself to one person, but I don't have a problem with people doing it. So long as every person involved agrees. Meaning that if someone is already married they have to get their wife/husband's signature to marry someone else.

Free, I'd reply to you in its entirety, but Miranda got there.
Marriage isn't a natural thing. Think about that. Sex is much more natural than marriage. People were made to have sex. It is necessary to sustain our existance. We can exist as a species without marriage.
Marriage is a man-made institution, sanctioned by God in religions, sanctioned by the government in countries.
Asking why there is man and woman to justify any marriage doesn't work. Humans decided that men and women should be married. Any religious document was written by a human. I'll follow it if I believe it, if I follow without belief it's a lie which would be not following it, so I work towards understanding, but people weren't created with marriage as a necessity for living. We made it. We came up with it. There's no natural inclination to marry, though there is one to mate.
There is homosexuality among most mammals. Humans are mammals too. You could think of it as population control if you want, but homosexuality is more natural than marriage is.

An interesting thought on the genetics...
WHAT IF they really do find a gene that would make a person more inclined to be gay.
In a way it could be tied to pro-life movement. With all of this research on genes, it is possible that someday we will know all about a baby before it's even born...hair/eye color, possibly any dieseases... Personally I find this to be a very scary thought. The idea of selection and...basically customizing my baby...makes my hair stand on end.
But what about a gay gene? If parent discovered that their child is likely to be gay...the law currently would allow for them to abort the child if they choose to. Of course this is a horrible thing. This is a gross generalization of course, but I am under the assumption that the majority of pro-choice are also very much for gay rights. I think the discovery of a "gay gene" has the potential to open the eyes of a few people.
It's just a thought I overheard while listening to my mother and my sister debate the topic.

And then again what if the whole gene idea is just a myth? Why would they point to genetics unless they can prove it without a doubt? Secondly, the burden of proof rests upon the prosecution, gay activists are the prosecution that society is preventing them rights.

toxic_lollipop Well I'm not sure about "genetics" however I am sure they're born that way.
You can say as many times as you like that gay people aren't born that way, but really how would you know unless you're gay/bisexual? I find men attractive, yet I know I'm not gay... how do you explain that? I also know I'm not bisexual. So I ask, finding the same sex attractive, isn't that a key to knowing if you're homosexual? If not then no person can be homosexual. Yet still, I don't consider myself gay. toxic_lollipop A life of crime hurts other people. Homosexuality is a lifestyle between two consenting adults. Homosexuals harmed me mentally. When I was 14 I was hit on by one of them, and for a long time I thought I was a homosexual. I still have friends who are homosexuals, I just know that I don't have to listen to them when they go on about how it's not a choice. If you know what it's like feeling like you can't be who you want to be, then you'd also understand that sometimes things can go both ways. toxic_lollipop Insults are a form of hurt used for the specific purpose of hurting someone else. If someone's feelings get hurt because someone else falls in love with someone of the same sex, well that's something they have to deal with.
People aren't homosexual because they want to hurt someone else, they just are. People insult people because they want to hurt them. Not only that I don't see any laws that say you can't insult someone. People aren't hurt from two people falling in love with the same sex. People are hurt from the insults that result from it. The reason why homosexuality doesn't work with conservatives for the most part is because they choose to purposely ridicule religion. Now I suppose it's okay to insult a person for being religious, but it's not okay to insult someone for being a homosexual. Haven't you seen all the animosity on these boards against people against gay marriage? I'll be honest, for a time I was okay with gay marriage, when I was about 15-16, but as time went on I decided that the continued bashing of religion was something I couldn't live with. I get along with those who don't bash religoin just fine, the problem with the gay activists today is that they are purposely trying to incite those who believe in God against them, they're not trying to lead a change by example but a change by demands. toxic_lollipop A dog isn't human, has no human rights and cannot sign a marriage contract. This was more of a hack, but if we take a look at history, marriage was almost never about love. It was about possessions, property and lust. toxic_lollipop The same reason it used to be between a WHITE man and a WHITE woman. You weren't allowed marrying a black person to a white person. This is probably the worst argument because of the fact that we're completely forgetting about one thing. The only difference in race is color. The difference between sexes, a physical organ. I don't think you'll say that two cars are the different based of the color it was painted, you'd say they are different in the way they are built. toxic_lollipop Actually a**l sex period is the easiest way to spread STDs. Not only gay men have a**l sex. Not only that, since when did STDs determine whether or not a person is allowed to marry or not? Or whether they're allowed falling in love or not? I'm against anything that has to do with a**l sex. And this argument isn't really about marriage, it's about homosexuality in general. I'm against people thinking they are just born a certain way and can't do a thing about it. I for some reason believe that STD's were put here for a reason. For what reason I don't know... Either way, we'll never see eye to eye.
