"No reason," she said lightly, brushing the comment off. "I was just thinking about it." Another cramp flared up and she grabbed her side. Millie hadn't warned her how quickly or even how soon it would take to start it's magic, but with her it didn't seem to waste any time. She began feeling very tender and very sick for some reason. "I'd like a girl too," Fre could feel the bile rising in he throat, "nicer...and all that..."

And then into the clean water Fre got her very first brush with the horrors of pregnancy.

He was closing off, not a good sign. "What if I didn't?" she retorted, not in any mood to really fight about it. Fre had wanted kids ever since her sister-in-law, Umi, had hers. They were gifts, not distractions, and she was bound and determined to prove that to Raken any way she could. "I want kids and I'm not waiting until after your elderhood for you to come around."

His admission aside, she was still very upset that he was playing this game with her. "You weren't going to come around," her tone softened lightly, "I understand that being an elder is important, but what about my needs and wants? I'm not looking to be elder, just a family I can take care of." Fre stopped to hod her side again as it swelled with pain. This wasn't going to be an easy task, was it?

"This is a small demand on your time. I'll take care of the kids when you're gone." Her tone drastically changed as she was almost on the verge of tears. "Why can't you just be happy and excited, Raken?"

"Would your answer have changed at all?"

It looked like to her that this was over. She'd take care of the kids herself if she had to. Upset and wiping a tear from her eye she got up out of the water and began to walk away. Fre didn't want to sit and take this abuse, specially right now.

"It doesn't matter what I want anyways," she whispered angrily. "If you can't see that I love you and that's why I'm doing this...well then," she turned around to look at him before saying, "then you'll never be a good elder."

((oooo....zing.))

A visible shudder went down her spine at the words and as her back was already turned she let out a little whimper. Fine, if he wanted to be that way he could just stew in it. Up ahead, not too far away from where they had been, was a tree that she could sit under.

Plopping down she buried her head in her hands. She hadn't meant what she said, she was just frustrated, but now it looked like she'd done it again. Just when things were going so well.

Fre sat and thought for what felt like hours. Her tears had stopped but the pain in her stomach hadn't. She thought about how important kids were to her and she guessed it stemmed from not having and siblings to look after until now. In the end she didn't want this to be over just because of her own stupid want.

Timidly and calmly she walked up behind Raken, head held low. This was going to be one of the hardest things to do. She gently cleared her throat and said,

"I'm sorry."

He was just going to be that way, it was just an accepted fact. Fre sighed and sat down next to him. Maybe some silence would make things better. Timidly she reached out and took his hand in hers without warning.

"I didn't say give up," she said sweetly. "There's just other things in life." She didn't want to push the issue too far at the moment. Instead she just gave his hand a little squeeze and rubbed his fingers.
