Halcyon stood up slowly and put his crystal back in it's pouch before he walked across the room to the other crystals she had brought out. He looked at all of them for a bit before he picked up the salt shaker and closed his eyes. His focusing on the salt shaker before clearing even that from his mind. From there he moves his focus back to the salt shaker, and the contents inside.

Gwyn waited for the boy to finish looking at all crystals and speak.

He moved on to the sugar, and then to the diamond earring. With a pause he frowned at the earring before looking at Gwyn, "Um...ma'am...The sugar and salt are both very simple but...ah...are you sure this is diamond..."
He holds up the earring, "It just feels wierd, it doesn't feel like the diamond my father let me hold." he said, trying his hardest to explain what he meant.

Gwyn nodded at the boy, writing something down on her paper. "Actually that is a flawed diamond. It's crystal structure has impurities in it." The woman walked over to the diamond, holding it out to the boy for him to see. "Most jewelers can tell this by looking at it or using various tests. You can do so at a much simpler level. What else did you see when you looked at the crystals?"
The woman waited to hear what the boy would say. She was not going to baby step him into seeing her points.

Halcyon tilted his head as he watched the crystals, "...Well...It's been altered unnaturally, and the feeling I get from it isn't a pleasant one as a result..." he answered to Gwyn. He looked to the salt and the sugar, "The salt and sugar had a more pleasant, happy feel to it, not as mutilated of a feeling."

Gwyn nodded, a little surprise he could tell that from the crystal. But it would make sense. "Salt and sugar break cleanly along the facets. Diamonds are often cut to avoid flaws or create more... pleasing shapes than a raw diamond. What else do you notice?"

He smiled warmly at Gwyn, "That you shouldn't wear it until it's been fixed...it's cracking at the mounting..." He nodded his head slowly as he looked at it. "Um...I...If you give me it...Maybe...I can fix it like...when I turned my crystal into a ball to make it easier to store."
Halcyon tilted his head as he watched her, he didn't know he could find such detail about things, just that he could kind of change the shape of his crystal.

"Lets finish discussing what else you learned about those three different crystals first," the woman smiled at Halycon amused at his eagerness to work on it. "Now, there's one more thing I want you to be aware of when you 'look' at crystals. Each crystal has a different structure to it. Tell me what they look like and how complex each one is."

He blinked at her, "...I never saw that...I felt it..." he blinked a couple more times, "Oh! Like...like...um..." he paced around and grabbed a sheet and drew out a simple atomic structure of water, "You want something like that?...I didn't see it like that...they...had different...Um...it's like a string that was pulled...But each one was a different musical cord, that's it!"
He was getting a little hyper due to frustration at his inability to explain it.

"Calm down. Yes I want to know how each of them is different. Pay attention to the differences in how you feel it, not what each is," the woman replied.

He nods his head as he closes his eyes, "...The diamond...gave a slightly deeper feel than the salt or the sugar, stronger as well...it almost felt like I could...make it stronger...use it to my will...the salt and ah...dirtier...no...it felt off...I don't know a word for it...the sugar had a light feel to it...

Gwyn nodded. "Good job. Now, we'll do a few practical exercises and then the class will be over." Taking the salt and sugar containers she dumped them out. "These two, I'd like you to take all the small crystals and merge them into one large crystal. One of sugar, one of salt." Stepping back she watched the boy closely.

"Merging..." Halcyon moved over and stuck his hand right into the sugar before he closed his eyes. He concentrated, and focused, trying to combine the sugar crystals together. He couldn't figure out how to meld them so he cleared his mind of everything then focused.
"...If...I just...change the...shape no...I have to change more than one at a time?" He tilted his head. He stopped trying, and thought about the process.

The woman sat quietly, watching the boy think out loud. For a moment she scribbled a note on her board. Keeping quiet, she waited to see if he would be able to figure it out or even if he could do it.

He continued to puzzle through it before he pulled two aside. He focuses on the two, feels the feeling they give off, and then he just thinks, focuses and concentrates. Suddenly the two sugar pieces slam together into one. He smiled, "I figured it out! I just have to focus on their feelings, and then blend it into one feeling!"
He turns to the sugar pile and closes his eyes, focusing on it slowly.
