I prefer them translated. In the Lupin mangas, it's difficult to tell what the sound effects are intending to convey, because there is no translation. It 'takes me out of the story' when I wonder just what sound is actually, er, sounding.

Third option.
When I read manga, I like to imagine my own sound effects, and they rule. domokun And when I finish it, I find out if I was right or not. It's like a game.

If the art and translated text is doing it's job, I'll have a perfectly workable idea of what the sound effects are, so it doesn't really matter if they translate the sound-effects. If NOT translating them makes the manga cheaper, then that's what I'd vote for! XD

I like them left in Japanese with small English translations beside them. I also like them left un-touched with a glossary in the back.

It's always funny to see the person behind peek at your manga when they see a giant Japanese symbol.

Compleatly Untouched. Im sorry, but english sound effects always look lame, regardless. It cheepens the artwork and the story.
It all honestly, SFX should really be needed unless its part of the artwork, the art should show you whats going on, and mostly does. Its another reson why I feel VIZ systermaticly ruin all kinds of manga (take dark horse, if the SFX are vital, they ask the artist to redraw the hole pannel, so the sounds are part of the artwork, no just cheeply added on aftwoulds on a comp).

I like seeing manga with the origional sound effects left untouched because it actually is easier to understand Japanese sound effects than some of the stupid sound effects that the english versions have. It would be nice though for the translators to have translation notes to the side of the panel.

I prefer both on a separate page and a small note. It depends on the image really.

It's alright. But, in some of my mangas it sucks because the sound effects end up covering parts >_>... domokun Like a damn censor bar.

I like them untranslated with a chart in the back. I don't read the chart though.

I like it better with the kanji sound effects, but if there's not a translation next to it, I'll never know what it is, because I don't like having to flip to the back of the book to look at the SFX guide. It's rather annoying. So I like it better with little translations next to it, as it looks corny sometimes with the completely-translated effects.

>.< I like a chart in the back, because I don't want a caption there and I don't like having a big BAM in English written across the page. It likes better in Japanese, you see. I don't read the chart, you see, it just is there if I'm DYING to know.
Actually, I just don't like sound effects.
