I think if they exist, they do so on the astral plane. I find it hard to believe that they would even want to live in our world considering mankind's lack of innocence and purity.
However, the Chinese have a "unicorn" called a Qi-Rin (Kirin) that will only show itself if China is in a state of peace.
...Nuclear peace maybe.... I don't see it happening anytime soon.

There was a song about unicorns my dad used to sing to me.
[I don't think it's very well known.]
Pretty much, it describes Noah's ark, and how they put all of the animals except for the rare unicorns on the boat thing. :[

There was another, but some of you might have heard of it.
[Not completely sure it was a unicorn in the story, but it reminds me of one.]
This song describes how a horse of some kind only drinks wine or something.

Just thought someone might find it interesting.

If they were real, they have to be extinct by now, if you just look at those gruesome legends...

Personally, I think unicorns are real. If you think about it, there are miles and miles of unexplored land and there is a possibilty that they exist in those lands.

Credit to Lila for mentioning the Kirin/Qilin! I was going to bring up how Confucius' mom supposedly saw one, and that they only appear before a nice leader...

...Which probably explains why we haven't seen one in a while. If unicorns exist in the physical world, as it is, they probably only want to be seen by someone with a pure heart and gentle soul. Sadly, that's just SO rare today, and it's likely that most of them were killed for their magical properties.

And, of course, they exist on astral plane. You can find all kinds of cool creatures there; I don't see why unicorns would be an exception. Again, though, there's the pure heart thing. A lot of beings can shape-shift, if only in astral plane. If the unicorn didn't want you to see its true form, trust me, you wouldn't see it.

Look at it this way: Anyone familiar with Egyptian legend knows the story of weighing one's heart against a feather to determine happiness in the afterlife, right? My theory is that unicorns can do something similar, just by brushing past you. If your heart balances or is lighter than the feather, congrats, you can see the unicorn; if not, you're not gonna see them.

Maybe. I honestly don't know what you'd see. For all I know, they have some kinda super-stealth...Horses seem plausible, though. 3nodding

they would have most likeley died out by now if they had, but they were believed to have hypnotic powers, so any proof of them could be easily erased

It's hard to believe something so beautiful and pure could survive in our world. Guess it's possible though.

I always thought they could go invisible. Of course, when I was younger, I thought they lived off of things like the dreams of children and stuff. xD

I don't know much about unicorns. Never looked them up because it was just one of those things I felt I knew. Like, you know about things around you, then you wake up and realize you know nothing about it. >.<

In 1980, Ringling Brothers Circus exhbited a man-made unicorn, a little goat fella that became the basis for Uni in the D&D cartoon.

I swear this is true.

Theoretically, it's possible, but considering that unicorns were supposedly corporeal creatures with limited magical capability, there would be fossil evidence left behind.

Maybe not, though. If unicorns were immortal (meaning only that they wouldn't die of old age), the only cause of death would be hunting. And what hunter leaves his prize trophy behind, especially a unicorn?
What if the horn wasn't made of the same stuff as bone, and decayed just like skin and muscle?

They've a good sense of hiding like most mythical creatures, I'd say. What would you do if you saw a big white horse with a horn standing in your driveway? Freak before you realize it was a unicorn, eh?

I know they are real. At least in the astral plane. When I was a young girl I believed very strongly (and still do) in fairies and unicorns and all the mythical beasts. I was also starting to develop some understanding of the spirit world and meditation.

I learned that if I calmed my mind and stared into the forests that surrounded our home I could see things flit between the trees in the distance. I never saw anything clearly. They were like the opposite of shadows, lighter areas the shifted and moved between trees.

At this time unicorn hunts were common for me. I would disappear for hours at a time into the forest looking for one. Often, especially in the winter, I would take a handful of sweet feed or alfalfa blocks with me to give to the unicorn when I met it. When I left I would leave the sweet feed behind where a unicorn or deer might find it.

When I was 12 I was siting in the yard late at night doing my exercises. clearing my mind and looking towards the forests. I sensed something looking at me and when I turned there was something between the trees.

It was a spirit so I couldn't see it clearly, but I know it was a unicorn. It was roughly the size and shape of a large deer. It remained there for several seconds staring at me then faded away.

I also believe that they once existed here in the physical plane but were hunted to extinction in the early middle ages. If they do still exist in the physical it would be in the deepest, least explored forests of Europe.
