I only have a rider waite deck rihgt now, but as much as I'm happy to have it, Im not too fond of it. The art work is too ambiguous and not easy to decifer (this coming from an artist) So I plan on buying decks with better art. I convinced my dad to get me the tarot of dreams fo my birthday (F'ing AWESOME art and symbolism is pretty easy to get... problems are its ha-yuge and its expensive. BLEHHH. I'm going to have to be a goood girl if I want it.)

Point is, make sure the deck that you get, you can understand the symbolism, and that it doesnt give you a headache to look at. Plus, don't get decks that you feel that even though theyre exceptionaly good decks, they grate against your beliefs. If you think manga style art isnt real art, refrain from decks with manga-ish art. If you're kinda homophobic, steer clear of decks with gay themes. If youre adverse to nudity or sexuality in art, try to find a deck that refrains from having that. You know what I mean?

Thanks for the help, guys. Hopefully I'll find time to make a deck... A while back, I started looking up the different cards and suites and wrote down their meanings and some common symbols. 78 cards... That may take a while. sweatdrop

Aeclectic Tarot is fantastic. I used to go there a lot. I loved their deck reviews and they do have a forum just for making your own deck. I started one but never got beyond like the 3rd card. Making your own deck is great but it takes a really long time.

You can find some good decks for cheaper than the stores on eBay.

I recommend starting out with the basic Rider-Waite deck, you can find them relatively easily online and they're a fairly inexpensive deck as well. I started on this deck and it opened my eyes to the world of Tarot at a very young age. The Rider-Waite deck is great because you can really get familiar with the fundamentals of Tarot, lots of symbolism!

Universal Waite, or the Rider-Waite tarot decks for an absolute beginner. My Unversal Waite tarot deck is one of my favorates, right behind my Celtic Dragon Tarot.

Also, I suggest going to a store to buy tarot cards, or any divination device really. You can't get a good feel of what your buying over the internet.

I really like the Fey Tarot Deck. It may be the dreamy countenances of it, because I usually get precognitions when I am asleep. It is very rare for me to get one during the day, and when I do it is hard to keep because it overlaps the image outside.

I probably can't get the deck though. My mom wouldn't like the idea of having to pay 15 dollars for what she would consider a deck of playing cards.

Well, I wasn't given much of a choice in my deck. My grandmother had sent a box of all of her old decks, and one seemed to grab me instantly. It's a beautiful fantasy themed deck, and I don't know the name of it. I can't grasp some of the imagery in it, but it's perfect in my hands, and it's communicative with me. No other has really spoken out to me as much as that one has.

Erm. I have a "My Tarot: Color Your Own Deck" deck. It's...okay, I suppose. The booklet that came with it isn't very detailed and kind of difficult for a beginner like myself.

I didn't pick it out. It was a prize for a game that I lost to one of my friends in the final round, but she gave it to me later because she wanted the Celtic Dragon deck instead.

It's fun to color and helps you put some of your personality into the cards, but I would recommend that you buy a proper instruction book if you want to get this deck.
