Lorioth let out a little snicker at that. He couldn't help himself. This was serious work and yet here was this boy doing everything right and yet treating it as if it was just daily mechanics. A part of him might have been insulted-- ruffled feathers if you will, because he took this very seriously.
At the same time, it was amusing. He wasn't like the other teachers who offered private tuitions, and so one on one contact with students over lab experiments were rare. Rare enough that he was enjoying himself.
"Cute." he said it quietly, mildly in comment as if this was what he was supposed to say. And it was working out. The experiment, that was. Pausing, he lowered the tube into the test tube holder and nodded his head, rubbing some of his own hair away from his eyes. It was short enough it rarely bothered him, but the feel of it on his forehead distracted enough for him to make the motions.
Taking a step behind the student and reaching for the final vial, he nodded. Increasing the flame, he tilted his head as he motioned for Rylenn to pick up the test tube again. "Hold it at 45 degrees over the flame, keeping it warm. But if it bubbles, pull it out slightly." he nodded, his eyes focused. Add a little bit. And a little bit more and he'd be happy.

Rylenn got a bit nervous. "Are you sure...?" He said softly even as he got into position. He got the tube and held it as close to 45 degrees as he could. He was off of course.. he had gotten nervous. "All right.. I.. I'm ready.." He said softly as he watched the liquid, pulling it away from the fire some when it began to boil slightly. "When...ever you are.." His other hand expertly positioned itself to hold back Lorioth's hair. He had to be veeery cautious in this position. The only indication this might be even partially straining him was the look of pure concentration on his face. He looked frustrated, almost irritated. His lip was bit and his eyes were narrowed.. but there was a strange quirk to his mouth.

Lorioth paused, staring at the angle, and frowned. "A little bit steeper. And hold it away from you." It wouldn't be right to have the boy hurt again. Not that this would be harmful. He'd put the correct dosage in. He was sure of that, this time.
Lorioth stared at the hand that was positioned to hold back his hair, his eyes flitting with frank curiosity. But this was important. He couldn't let the liquid heat away and he was anxious to finish this soon. He could do it himself, of course. But it felt fine having someone else help out.
"Don't worry." He was amused. "This is my job, Rylenn." I won't mess up. He had confidence. Confidence, and skill.
Of course. Right?
But the boy was funny.

Rylenn nodded and did as he was told. "There you go.. better...?" He fixed the angle and pointed it away from them. He kept the hand there despite the other. He smiled very faintly. "I've already had my a** burned once.. that's enough.." He said softly. He waited patiently for Lorioth to do the next step, very curious as to what would happen. "Will it explode..?"

Lorioth shook his head, but it wasn't a negative answer, not really. Leaning forewords just slightly and pouring it in at an angle, the lip of the vial allowed him to do so with no real effort.
"Explode?" he was amused. "I hope not. Then we'd need to start over." Because they would, until he had the formula right and it was complete. Over, and over again.
Shaking his head, he steadied his hand with effort, pouring a little bit in and watching as the translucent liquid stayed consistent. "As long as the color doesn't change, we're fine."
He avoided the a** comment. It was still touchy, knowing a student had been hurt because of his work.

He watched Lorioth for a moment then smiled. "You really love what you do... don't you...." The young man noticed Lorioth ignored his comment. "If you really want to make up for hurting at me since it bothers you so much.. come and let me make dinner. I hate the cafeteria's good.. it's lacking in.. what is it called.." He snapped his fingers for a minute. "Oh yes.. -taste-." He grinned. "Obviously ingredients are needed but I'm sure I could find something to cook.."

Lorioth looked up, half distracted. He had enough discipline to store what the man had to process later. He had promised no explosion, and he wasn't going to have his skill questioned by a first year either.
Pouring the rest of the liquid into the test tube, he waited, breathing a sigh of relief. Some might consider him slow to respond- but he merely thought of it as prioritizing his tasks.
"Of course I do." he answered, surprised. Didn't everyone? Wasn't that the point of it all? His eyes widened with his surprise slightly before narrowing again once with amusement.
"Is it right, to complain to a member of staff about the food?" he questioned out loud. Not that he was disagreeing. School food on the whole seemed to lack... everything. Self conscious, he smiled absentmindedly, not answering.
"There. See? We just need to let it cool, and it's almost finished."

Rylenn laughed softly. "I would think the staff could be the ones able to do something about it honestly." He watched the tube for a moment, taking it away from the fire. "Should I set it down..?" His hand slowly left Lorioth's forehead. "So is it a yes or a no?"

Lorioth nodded his head. "Set it in the test tube rack. The temperature change was enough to make sure that the three chemicals combined. After it cools, it should develop a slight pink shade, and then we just need to seal it off by combining it into any soft wax. Like a salve." it was a pet project, almost. Very convenient in use and something he actually liked to talk about. "See? Natural."
Blinking wide, almost guileless eyes, he took a moment to rearrange his bangs until his eyes seemed to be peeking out through under them. "I'm a very picky eater." he said lightly, and smiled.
"Now, you'd be sure to let me know if the burn progresses in any way? I'm certain it won't. But you don't know." The man who had discovered the cure, a doctor, and look what happened. "I _am_ a doctor."

Rylenn laughed and crossed his arms. "You're a difficult person to deal with!" He huffed some and smiled. He put the test tube to the side and blocked it from the other's view. "You can't be too picky.. you eat cafeteria food.. say yes..." He leaned down and another stubborn hair fell into his eyes. "Say yes or I'll let it flop out and we'll do it again.. and again until you say yes."

Lorioth stared at the younger student, having the vague sensation that he should be able to dictate what happened here because he was the professor. The doctor. And yet look, it was this boy, this first year who was demanding both his attention and his choices.
How.... baffling.
"I could stay here all day" he murmured. "But how would your other professors feel about it?" in fact, he was curious to see what the other professors had to say about this youth. Was he always like this?
But then he paused, having a feeling that the boy would actually stay here all day. Not that it would be too bad. "Dinner, then." he said, smiling slightly with the same look of shy ease. "Let us hope your cooking is up to par, then." was he teasing? Yes. Yes he was.

Rylenn smirked and stretched. "Good.." He slipped to the side and eyed the mixture. He flopped on the table and watched the mixture. He looked at Lorioth. "What type of food do you like...? I need to figure out what I want to make..." He hoped the other would like his cooking.. like it enough to let him cook more often.

Lorioth leaned over and picked up the blank tub of waxy salve. He had prepared this already before, and holding on to it, he watched Rylenn with a slightly amused, almost playful expression. This one almost reminded him of Ardanay-- but easier to deal with, and not quite as blatant. Maybe a puppy, compared to the full canine.
Amused by his own imagery, a sliver of a laugh escaped as he tilted his head. "And make it easy for you?" he almost baited the man as he tossed the tub from hand to hand. "That would be no fun, Rylenn."

Rylenn purred and smirked. "Fine.. it will just have to be my specialty.. chicken and spinach alfredo.." He tapped Lorioth's nose. "Tell me what to do, oh Professor..." He leaned down and snatched the tub very easily. "I was a street rat..." He winked and turned and wiggled his bum.

Lorioth wrinkled his nose at the patting, reflex at the touch. Amused, he shook his head, unable to decide whether it was proper to yell at the boy for his impish behavior, or ignore it.
"All we have to do is fold it in. The wax is just there to make the handling of the liquid easier, and to thin out the concentration a little bit." He watched the bum wiggle with a slight giggle, and did just that.
Giggle.
"Rylenn." he concentrated steadfastly on the tub. It was slightly embarrassing, and hard to believe. "I highly doubt what you were has any importance on how well you can fold liquid into wax."
Still. It was fun.
