...School, huh.
Breaking the walls...huh. That was what her parernts wanted to achieve by sending her to school. Ever since she was young, she was tutored at home, until she was 12.

She cursed quietly under her breath. All through middle school she had been alone, lonely. It wasn't as if she didn't want to make friends, but...
They avoided her anyway. She didn't know why. They spoke to each other using friendly, everyday speech, but to her, all they used was an overly formal form of speech.

...why?

She looked herself over in the mirror. The tips of her lips were turned down into a slight frown and her eyebrows were knitted together in thought. No, She thought. This won't do. She paused a moment, then switched to happy-go-lucky mode. Or much rather, a fake one. Something she had created during middle school as a futile attempt to appease her parents, to make them stop sending her to school.

She knew it was futile. They knew her well enough to tell it wasn't real. But it had formed into a habit, the mask of carefree-ness and hyperactiveness had. She smoothed out her yellow dress that was her school uniform and looked at her now smiling face, in the mirror. Smile...Check.

As she walked out of the room, she asked Mifuyu, her maid and only friend, "Hey, Mi-cchi, am I unfriendly?" She was earnest, but she didn't really expect an answer from the servant. Mifuyu was one who enjoyed telling people things as much as possible, and letting them find out on their own. "My answer will await you when you return from school, Chiya-sama." She smiled, and her eyes narrowed to slits. "Have a nice day at school!"

Chihaya shook her head and headed out to take the car to school. As expected. The answer... I'll be looking forward to it.

After [Before Start of school] and [Class 1B]

"So," said Mifuyu. "Did you find your answer yet?"

"Not really. But I did meet alot of nice new people," she said, with a small, but genuine smile. "You won't tell me, right?"

"Oh, of course," the maid siad good-humouredly. "..not. Oh yes, you better have not overdone it with the acting at school."

She sighed. She did. A little. But then it was only half the time. She found herself truly enjoying her school experience, whether she intended to or not. "Of course...I didn't. Did my parents ask you to pass that message to me?"

The other female shrugged. "I take it you enjoyed yourself at school today?"

Was her face that easy to read? She grinned sheepishly. "...Yeah."

"I'll tell you something, then. Seven years ago, my answer would be a complete, admanmant no." Mifuyu smiled at her charge, and tossed her a small blue book. "Here."

Chihaya caught it, then looked it over curiously. The hardcover book had an ornate dark blue pattern running along the front and back, and the word 'DIARY' was embossed on the front. "Wha-..?" She opened her mouth to speak, but Mifuyu had already left.

Wait, she thought, thinking back on the words Mifuyu had spoken. Seven years ago... wasn't that when Chizu-neesama...

Haircut

"Mamaa, I'm going out!" Chihaya called out.

"Where?"

"S-e-c-r-e-t! You'll see when I get home!"
"I'll be looking forward to it, then," was the reply. "Don't come home to late, you hear?"

"Right!"

Today she didn't bother to tie up her long, brown hair. Why should she, anyway? She would have no use for the hair bands when she was done with her business. It was slightly cold out, so she wore her red coat over a knee-length dress her brother had made. She had always been her test subject ever since he'd taken to fashion design. Having no interest for the family business(He downright sucked at it, anyway), he'd set up his own label. Since the oldest daughter was deceased, and the second son had no interest, SHE was the heir to the Takanashi candy empire.

Oh well.

She fingered her hair thoughtfully once more. She was having second thoughts about this. After all, Since young, she'd loved long hairdos(no doubt from her idolisation of her sister) and never got around to cutting it, even once. It was a good thing her hair grew really slowly, almost like a boy's, so there wasn't much problem with not cutting it.

Finally, she reached her destination and stepped it. Immedietely the smell of shampoo and other hair things wafted by, overloading her sensory organs. Defintely a smell she didn't like. Chihaya decided not to linger, and after discarding her coat, approached the receptionist at the counter.

A hairstylist sat her down on one of the chairs. "Do you have any hairstyle in mind? You have plenty of options," Said the woman, eyeing the mass of hair. "Layering? Thinning?" Chihaya shook her head. "Short, If you please. something that you'd think would look nice on me.," She said. "And leave my fringe alone. Is it alright?" She added as an afterthought. The lady beamed at her and began working at snipping off huge chunks of chocolatey brown hair, which fell onto the ground in massive amounts. Chihaya sighed. Her hard earned hair! It was nearly like Chizu-nee's anyway! Don't be stupid, said a voice in her mind. There's no need for you to be like her. She let out another sigh, mentally agreeing with the voice, and then turning back to her magazine.

The hairstylist had done a good job, she decided, when the job was done. Her fringe was the same as always, parted largely to the right, with two shoulder-length bangs on each side. The back was layered, with the longest strands barely touching the nape of her neck. She thanked the stylist, paid and left.

It felt good. Her head felt lighter and overall, it was more comfortable. Plus, she wouldn't have to tie up her hair everyday. Chihaya laughed softly to herself and pulled out a white colour 'x' shaped clip from her coat pocket and pinned whatever hair that was dangling on the left side of the fringe to the bang. I wonder how Mama will react to this, She mused.
