In truth she was planning on making the first crack at her name that she could find but decided better. After all, one insult would lead to another and that would lead to her on her a** without a trainer. That would do her absolutely no good so she clamped her trap and listened to what the other mare had to say. Her mouth snapped open only a minute later to protest. "You don't have anything for me to do?!" She asked a bit more angrily then she had intended.
Realizing that her shouting was a mistake she took a step back closing her mouth. Her eyes still looked a little angry but otherwise she had calmed. She had been the one to ask and it wasn't right for her to snap though it still pissed her off. She had heard no tales of a master not having some idea of how to train a disciple before taking them on.
Dropping the subject for a moment she began to follow Ladius trying to think of a decent reason for why she wanted training. She couldn't think of one so she went with what she knew. "I just want to be stronger. No special reason it's just all I've ever really thought of. Being the best out there you know?"

Ladius smiled ever so slightly as she watched the various emotions flick across Amoena's face. Perhaps she'd teach the younger mare how to contain herself; when you gave away every thought in your head with a mere look, then there was something that needed to be done. Of course, not every Soquili one came across were able to read expressions that rapidly, but it was best to err on the side of caution.
Besides that, it was never wise to show your teacher that you were upset with how they decided to do things. Ladius was a bit surprised to see the anger on the mare's face, and amused at the same time; didn't Amoena realize that she was being trained as a favor more than anything? Damn kids, always getting cocky without right...
Ah well. She had the excuse of being young and not really knowing what she had gotten into. Ladius would set her right in time, and for now she'd be patient. After all, a little company could come in handy.
With that, she shrugged her shoulders and continued off, taking her gaze off of the younger mare and turning them to the path ahead. That didn't mean that she wasn't paying attention, though.
"I understand what you mean. It's just that something as drastic as becoming a disciple seems a bit of a sudden thing, so I was simply curious if there was any ulterior motive behind it, any mission in life you had to settle, something like that. Do you have any family, or are you on your own?" Direct question, but still of import.

"I had a mission...once, but he's long gone now." She grumbled as her thoughts flickered back to Shadow. She had left him broken and bleeding so she was fairly sure he was gone. Where did that leave her? With absolutely no purpose in life other then to go after a skinwalker, a task she would never complete. No she had a mission. She had to take care of her mother. That was her duty, she would get stronger to protect the mare that had brought her into the world.
Bringing her mind back into the real world she nodded at Ladius. "I've got a family. I live with my mom and then I have a brother and dad I don't really see but they still count."
She nodded once again then focused on the path before them. She considered racing ahead but then realized she had no idea where they were going. It seemed rather pointless to race off, unless of course she got a direction first. "So...where exactly are we going for your training?" She asked hoping for a specified location that way she could bolt. A race there would be fairly good training, right?

"So you've got family but had a mission and are now a rover. A decent enough state of affairs." Ladius was moving along at a decent pace now, heading up the beach in the direction of the woods. Obviously this wasn't just a whim, which was a lucky thing for Amoena. Ladius didn't take kindly to people that made life decisions lightly. But on that note...
"I hope you didn't mean I train you for one afternoon, Amoena, because if that's the case then I think that this is where we part ways. Or does your mother know that you'll be gone for a while?"
Just because she herself didn't know her parents didn't mean that everyone else was the same way; she could respect the parent/child bond.

Crystalline eyes narrowed a bit as the young mare bit her lip. She hadn't thought of that and in fact her mother didn't even know where she was now. She couldn't just leave her mother in the dark but she couldn't very well just leave without training either. She needed this and nothing was going to stop her from getting it. Her mother had Bandit and Xan who occasionally swung by, she would be fine for a while.
"My mother doesn't know." She admitted releasing her lip. "She also doesn't really need to know, she has people to keep her company and if she's really worried she'll find me." Her own words made her heart hurt a bit. She had never hurt her mother before and she never wanted to but this was necessary. Perhaps after a while Ladius would let her take a trip to find her mother while she was still in training then there wouldn't be any more worries. She hoped.

An interesting state of affairs, to be sure. So this young mare was close to her mother, but didn’t seem to think that it was important to inform her that she was going to be gone for an indeterminately long period of time? To say that Ladius was amused would be putting it mildly; this girl seemed to give the phrase ‘one track mind’ a whole new slant! She could admire that in a Soquili, indeed she could…
Though another thing that Amoena would have to learn was the value of forethought.
Her voice was clipped as Ladius replied, once again refraining from stopping or turning to look at her companion. “Well, if you are sure that you don’t need to let anyone know where you are, that’s fine by me; though I’ll tell you now that I have no idea how long your training will take.” Though that would rely on Amoena herself more than anything, Ladius wasn’t going to make any promises to keep the younger mare around indefinitely. “However, your mother would have her work cut out for her if she tries to find you. When I don’t want to be found, then I can usually prevent such from happening.”
Normally she didn’t care if she met up with anyone or not and consequently didn’t make much of an effort to blend in when she was in her home meadow. After all, she knew that she could hold her own against virtually any other Soquili that came along.
However, having Amoena around would change things. Until she had a better idea of the younger mare’s fighting prowess, Ladius would be taking steps to ensure that they weren’t surprised by anyone.
But just because it would be hard for her mother to locate Amoena didn’t mean she’d be cut off…
“You have until high noon the day after tomorrow to explain to your mother and teepee mates what you’ll be doing. I’ll be waiting for you by at the first bend in the river inside the forest on the west side. Can you manage that?”

Amoena's heart stopped but the rest of her kept moving. She wasn't sure if what she was hearing was right. Ladius was giving her time to explain things to her mother? Could she believe her? The older mare's voice held no trace of lying but it was possible that she was only trying to get rid of her. Not a risk she was willing to take. She had to be sure.
"You mean it? You're not just going to leave me the second I'm out of sight?" She asked looking a bit untrusting. Just because Ladius was her mentor and trainer now didn't mean she had to trust her without a thought. That was simply foolish. After all she could say to jump off a waterfall and some fool would probably listen without a thought and fly to their doom.
Looking about she judged how long a trip to her home would take. It would be at least a half days walk to get there, less if she ran then it would probably take till the night to fully explain everything. Then to the river. Could she really do it by the time given? It could be considered training but if they weren't at home then what would happen?
There were just to many ifs involved. It could only work if Ladius was telling the truth, if she ran, and if someone was actually at the teepee. She did not like all the possible negatives that could come.

Ladius stopped moving the second she heard the question. Eyes narrowed and cold as ice, she pivoted to fact the younger mare and fix her in the merciless gaze of one who had just been gravely insulted...and was willing to do something about it.
"If it had been my intention to ditch you, I never would have agreed to take you on. Integrity is an important quality essential to anyone who calls themself a fighter, and I, for one, consider it a virtue on par with strength. That in mind, I can't believe that you'd consign your life to someone you apparently can't even trust. I'd say that we're done here, wouldn't you?"
Nothing more, nothing less; yet in those coldly spoken words was a dismissal of the highest order. If the younger mare didn't trust her, fine; she wasn't going to deal with it. She didn't need a disciple at all, let alone one that couldn't be trusted to use common sense. Without another word, Ladius stalked off again, every line of her body hard with annoyance and suppressed fury.

It hurt. It really hurt. She had never thought that a question she used so often could have such horrible results. The cold shoulder well deserved its name. She cold feel the frigid burning coming off her would have been trainer. She wanted to say something to fix everything and get her training back into place but it seemed hopeless. Anything she said now would make her seem week and useless or just thick-headed.
She turned her back to Ladius' retreating form and stomped into the ground angrily. Her golden opportunity had faded away in one slip of the tongue and now she had nothing. Her future days looked just as bleak as they had been earlier that day.
She kicked the ground again and again as if that would fix things. It didn't help her in the least. She thrashed her head about for a moment before racing off in a flurry. She would go home, pretend as though none of this had ever happened and look after her mother once more. Anything else was useless.

One ear twitched slightly. Ladius could hear the sounds coming from behind her as the younger mare indulged in what could only be called a tantrum, and her lips curled once again in abject disgust. Good grief, was she dealing with a mare or a filly?
As she heard the sound of running feet moving away, Ladius turned to watch as the mare raced off into the distance. A pity things had worked out as they had; Amoena had had potential. Maybe when she learned common sense and respect, they'd meet again.
Shaking her head, Ladius turned and once more started off. She needed to go fight something...
